11:48

Still no word on Super Late Model tech thus far.

11:44

With two laps to go, Crocker leads by a full straigh-away on Pollard.

11:42

Halfway through the Modified feature, Donald Crocker leads Bubba Pollard.

11:35

Bubba Pollard’s right-front tire had been going flat in the later stages of the Super Late Model race.  The tire had lost several pounds of pressure when his car owner, Ronnie Sanders, checked it as soon as the 18 pulled into victory lane.

11:34

A spin on the opening lap of the Modifieds has brought out the red flag.  It appears that the car may have damaged the inside fence on the backstretch.

11:33

Bubba Pollard went right from victory lane into his Modified, where he started sixth.

11:31

The win unofficially earns Bubba Pollard the Sunoco Gulf Coast Championship.

11:30

The results are unofficial until the tech process has been completed.

9:44

Allen Karnes will be assesed a one lap penalty for pulling his car from the impound post qualifying to make chassis adjustments.  Davidson, however, is clear.  His team changed an ignition coil as a saftey measure.  Lead technical inspector Ricky Brooks said he didn’t want a failure and Davidson cause a pile up on the track.

9:41

Drivers are strapping into their cars.

9:37

Comment From danny I am glad to see jeff choquette racing this weekend. That kid is the real deal!

9:37

We just touched base with Augie Grill and he said everything on his 112 is fixed up and he’s ready to move forward from the rear of the field.

9:37

Both Allen Karnes and and Chris Davidson worked on their cars after qualifying, and will have to start from the rear… joing Augie Grill who had to replace rear end parts.  Karnes and Davidson qualified in the back of the pack anyway, so the penalty was minimal.

9:34

Donnie Wilson talks last-minute strategy with his crew.

9:33

Gridding is when the field of cars is brought to (in this case) the frontstrech prior to the start of the event.  Tonight, driver introductions will take place from the frontstretch.  Sometimes, after the field has gridded, the track opens the gates for a meet and greet autograph session.

9:33

Comment From Guest What does gridding mean?

9:32

Track promoter Rick Crawford chats with Jerry Artuso on the grid.

9:29

The Miller Lite Series/ Sunoco Gulf Coast Series Super Late Models are now gridding on the frontstretch.

9:27

The Sportsman race is over.  Michael Sanford won the race after another malee that saw leaders Chad Dulabhan and Steve Buttrick collide on the backstretch.  The spinning cars caused chaos as Randy Thompson, and Steven Allday went flying over the banking in turn four.

Feature racing has begun here at MIS. The 15-lap Bomber feature is the first of the evening. The Super Late Model race will be the third on tonight’s card.

8:18

Let’s also give credit to the Donnie Wilson team. As Grill told 51, the part isn’t exactly for the same type of rear end that he runs, but the Wilson team was friendly enough to let the Grill team borrow it and several members of the Wilson team were underneath the 112 helping make the repairs.Grill told us that he does plan to have the repairs made for tonight’s race.

8:16

Comment From Guest Bubba and Mr. Ronnie is THE BEST!!

Comment From Courtney Grill Augie is lucky to have such good friends in the race community.

8:14

Comment From Mike Ray Just told Ms.Hotrod;Drivers, teams, fans and car owners are the best!So glad to be associated w/ racers!

8:08

We just checked with Augie Grill. The part that broke on his 112 was the jack shaft, which is a rear end component that is an extention of the driveshaft. Donnie Wilson’s team, parked right next to Grill’s, offered a replacement and it will be on the 112 in time for tonight’s feature. Another classy move by the Wilson team, as it was with the Pollard team with their backup car if necessary.

8:07

Comment From Race fan A classy move by the 18 team!

7:54

Grill’s team hard at work on the 112.

7:53

The Augie Grill team is hard at work replacing the rear end in the 112. If the necessary changes can not be made, Bubba Pollard and his Ronnie Sanders Racing team have unloaded a backup car and are preparing it for Grill to drive as a last resort. That is a great sign of sportsmanship between two hard-nosed competitors.

We love covering those series, for sure, and have quite a bit this season. We have staff in several areas of the country, but it’s not always in our budget nor do we have the manpower to be at every race, every weekend. If you or someone else would like to sponsor our coverage at certain tracks or series throughout the country, please email[email protected] and let us know where you’d like to see us and how we can make it work! We will be covering events in both the ASA Midwest Tour and CRA later this season, too.

Mike Williamson and DJ VanderLey talk racing at Mobile. (Speed51.com Photo)

5:04

We talked with DJ VanderLey during Super Late Model practice.  He and his Eddie Craig Racing team were all scratching their heads as to why they didn’t have the performance they were after last night in Pensacola.  His team, like most, thouroughly checks every nut and bolt on the car before and after the race.  They good find nothing wrong.  That led them to believe that there could’ve been a problem with the set of tires on the car.Today however, VanderLey is upbeat and excited about tonight’s race.  At this point, the big key to a solid night for him will be luck.  “We’ve had terrible luck this year,” said VanderLey.  “We’ve been in wrecks, had an engine blow… it’s always something.”

4:59

Local Division practice is on going here at Mobile.  We’re process photos from Super Late Model practice now.
