Today’s race will feature a break at lap 64, leaving a 36-lap shoot out to the finish in honor of the late Joe Shear. During the break, drivers will have 10 minutes to make adjustments to their cars on the front stretch, but will not be allowed to change tires. Fans will be able to watch as drivers make adjustments for the final 36 laps.

Johnny Sauter is happy to be back at MIS and hopes to get his first career win today. He said the he believes this will be the fourth time he has ran at Madison. He raced an ASA event in 2001, the first Midwest Tour event in 2007 and last year’s Joe Shear Classic, where he and Dan Fredickson put on a great battle before Travis Sauter prevailed for the win.

We did ask both Johnny & Travis Sauter if they have patched things up since their altercation at Oktoberfest. Both say they are good, but Travis said, “Who knows when we get racing.”Last year at the ARCA Midwest Tour season finale at Oktoberfest, Travis tapped his uncle in turns one and two while working through lap traffic. Johnny spun and then spun Travis during the caution.

Johnny Sauter made the drive up from North Carolina to compete in today’s event.Sauter was working on his car on Friday and was about to load it up when they discovered a mechanical issue. He told use that he left North Carolina at 1:30pm yesterday and arrived at the track at 3:30am this morning.
