Marion Edwards Jr. was a second generation driver who grew up at race tracks. On July 5th, 1969 he raced here at New Smyrna Speedway for a 100 lap Late Model special event. During the race Edwards had a fuel leak that they were unable to fix. He made contact with the wall and his car caught fire. He was unable to release his seat belts and perished in the fire. Tonight the Marion Edwards Jr. Memorial returns to honor Edwards who remains near and dear to many in the racing community throughout the Florida.
