10:41

We say the schedule is as proposed for a reason.   Weather appears like it will be an issue sometime during the day.   Currently it is just cloudy here at the track, so hopefully everything will get in today.   Officials have already stated that tomorrow is the next rain date, followed by Monday, but tomorrow’s forecast after mid-morning currently shows no issues with weather, so if things do not all get in today, tomorrow should be good to go.

10:49

The driver’s meeting for the Bandoleros has taken place.   By our count, there are only six Bandoleros here, but this isn’t really an event for them.

10:57

We have a lot of material to post, including line-ups and more, that we will be posting throughout the day.   Right now though, we are heading to the driver’s meeting.   We will be back shortly with news and information.

12:04

The driver’s meeting has completed and the Bandolero practice, which includes eight cars, are on track now.We will have notes from the driver’s meeting shortly.

12:09

Bandolero practice has concluded and Legends Car practice has started.

12:21

Here are the procedures for today’s races.   All divisions of Legends Cars follow the same procedure. The top 20 drivers from yesterday’s qualifying and heat-race points totals are locked into the A Main already.   Drivers 21st through 40th will be placed in the B Main and 41st – 60th will be in the C Main for the divisions needing the C Main due to car count.

The C Mains will be 25 laps.   At lap 20 (five laps remaining in the race), a yellow flag will be thrown and the top four drivers will be taken off the track as they transfer to the B Main.   The rest of the drivers in the C Main will race five laps to the checkered flag to determine the C Main champion.

The B Mains will be 30 laps.   At lap 25 (five laps remaining in the race), a yellow flag will be thrown and the top four drivers will be taken off the track as they transfer to the A Main.   The rest of the drivers in the B Main will race five laps to the checkered flag to determine the B Main champion.

The four transfers plus the original 20 drivers will be joined by six provisionals to make 30-car A Main fields.   The provisionals will be given to those drivers that have regional qualifier wins during the year that haven’t already qualified for the A Main (either by the 20 set yesterday or the four transfer drivers).   If there are more than six drivers that have regional qualifier wins that are still not in the field looking to use the provisionals to get in, the six spots will be given to the top-six finishers of those regional qualifier winners from the B Main.   If there are less than six regional qualifiers for the six provisionals, the remaining spots will go to the next highest finishers in the B Main.

12:33

Practice has completed.   The Legends drivers are getting ready for a group photo on the front stretch.

1:05

Comment From Keith from Canada Appreciate all the info. Would rather ne there but this is a great second option.

1:06

We are back after the group photo and the laps around the track as a group.   We will have video of that event next week on Speed 51.

Up next is the Bandolero heat race.

1:22

The Bandolero heat race has been completed.   We will have details on the Bando feature later. The C Mains will start at 2:00pm.   We will have full race line-ups for each race as they happen.

1:26

Yesterday, the drivers took to the track for qualifying and heat racing action.   After all divisions completed their events, the line-ups were set for the Mains.   Four drivers were on top of the charts in qualifying for their divisions.

1:26

“Doug (Stevens) and I built this car, so I want to thank FAST technology Motorsports for helping me put the car together,” said Cody Haskins, the fastest Semi-Pro racer in qualifying.   “We put it together about a month ago, and ever since then we have come here to test and we’ve been quick and I’ve just worked on it from there.   I mean Doug has made my job that much easier.”

1:28

“It’s been pretty good,” said Scott Hensley, the fastest Young Lions driver.   “Since we unloaded on Thursday, we’ve been the fastest one.   It’s been pretty good so hopefully we can hold it off 50 laps today and the rain will hold out.”

1:29

“I expect to finish really well – a top-five finish,” said Bayley Currey, the fastest Pro driver.   “Hopefully we’ll get a win.”

1:32

In the Masters division, the top-two drivers, Clay Hair and Jeff Haynie, wanted to talk more about their battle in the heat race than the qualifying.   Haynie was fast qualifier while Hair won the heat race.“I had to start dead last in the heat race, which Clay did too,” said Haynie.   “You just have to go out there in run with the different people around you.   They were side by side so I really couldn’t get through running clean and the track wasn’t in very good shape from the wrecks.   I did the best I could do.”“I always do [think that I can pull off a win],” said Hair.   “I mean, I always have the confidence – you have to come to a race and know you’re capable of winning.   I’ve actually got one of the best cars, even though we had a motor issue in the qualifying earlier, but we got a couple of good laps in and we won our heat race.   I’m stoked.   The car races really well, and while it might not be the fastest car here, I think it’s a good race car.”

The A Mains will start at 6:00pm.

5:27

We have been told that in the Bandolero feature earlier today, Woodrow Mullis was DQed for something dealing with the area around the restrictor plate.   That makes Kason Plott the winner of that event.

5:29

We are going to take a break from the PC for a few moments.   When we come back, we will have the line-ups and the A Mains to determine the 2009 Nationals winners.

6:11

The Thunder Roadsters are on the track for their A Main feature.   They should be rolling soon.

6:20

7:21

This race is important for more than one reason.   The Legends Young Lions points championship is not decided.   Harrison Rhodes and Travis Braden are tied in points, so whomever finishes higher wins the points title.

7:21

GREEN FLAG

7:22

Scott Hensley still leads out front while Harrison Rhodes is second.

7:22

Donald McIntosh has worked his way to third.

7:23

7:26

We are halfway (25 laps) and so far it looks like Scott Hensley’s race to lose.

Cody Humpries, running in the back half of the top 10, has his bumper off and the officials had to make the call to send him pitside to get it fixed.

7:29

YELLOW FLAG: LAP 33Kyle Weatherman went for a spin in turn one.

7:30

7:36

RED FLAGDue to the amount of cars involved, the red flag has been displayed. Some of the drivers involved were Davey Matthews, Kyle Weatherman, Austin Leitner, Evan Finley, Dexter Hucal, Blake Jones and  Mason Massey.

7:42

There is a ton oil on the track between turns two and the backstretch.   It is possible someone blew up, putting oil on the track, causing all the drivers to get sideways and wreck.

7:44

The cars are back rolling.

7:45

Top five: Scott Hensley, Zach Hausler, Donald McIntosh, Harrison Rhodes, Chad Finchum

7:45

Travis Braden is back to sixth.

10:20

Unlike the Masters division, the Pro division’s national points title has been locked up.   Daniel Hemric is the only driver in the Pro division to max out his points, so the title is his.   He is currently running eighth.

10:20

Scratch that.   Daniel Hemric ducked low a few times under yellow before coming down pit road to the attention of his crew.

10:22

We are one to go and Daniel Hemric just made it back on the track.

10:22

GREEN FLAG

10:24

YELLOW FLAG: LAP 16There were a few incidents on the back stretch.   David Moyes and another driver had issues, then Justin Swilling stopped going into turn three.

10:24

Dylan Ames got the lead on that last restart and currently leads Bailey Currey.

10:25

A three-wide battle for the lead resulted in Andrew Smith taking the lead.   Drivers are all over the track and there is a ton of action up front.

10:27

10:28

10:30

Nick Pistone has moved into the top five.

10:30

At lap 35, Andrew Smith still leads Doug Stevens.  Dylan Ames is now third, followed by Kyle Lowery and Nick Pistone.

We still have more coverage, so stay put.

11:12

After the Pro race, an incident between Brian McArdle and Nick Pistone occured in the pits.   We will have more information on that shortly.

11:36

After the Pro race completed, Brian McArdle walked from turn one to turn two behind Nick Pistone and the whole Pistone group until they got to turn two.   McArdle, who was frustrated after the last-lap incident took him out of a top-five finish, walked in and placed his hand on Pistone’s shoulder, then tried to explain how he wasn’t pleased with the last-lap incident.   That move prompted all the crew members and folks there to all start tussling.   No punches were thrown and everyone was separated.“We went down into turn one and he (Pistone) took off like he was after the #62 (Andrew Smith), went down in there and hit him and of course he went on by and the 62 spun in front of me and I collected him,” said McArdle.   “I had nowhere to go.   It was a last lap deal; me and him were racing neck and neck and it wasn’t between me and him until he took the 62 out and of course I was there, and as far as I was concerned, he had no business going and running down in there and purposely taking another car out.

“I guess I was just caught up in the heat of the moment.   I just wanted to let them know what he did and tell him who I was and what car he took out and that he took out a winning car and it got a little escalated from there but it’s all good now.   I had fun; we had a good time.”

11:37

Nick Pistone explained his side of the situation, including the on-track incident with Smith.“On the restart I got by second place; I got behind Andrew Smith,” said Pistone.   There was oil all over the track   from lap 13, there was oil everywhere.   I got up on him on the restart, he was choking a little bit because I was catching him.   I was on him a little too hard in [turn] one, I got hit from behind.  We were nose to tail one, two, three.   The 33 car (Kyle Lowry) was pushing me into the 62 and the 62 spun out, I apologize.   I hate it for him.   I’m sorry they lost the nationals, but I lost too, so it’s even.  I was the bumper that hit his rear bumper, he spun out.   I did get pushed into him but I did the best I could.

“Back here I guess the #44 McArdle, he was behind me the whole race. I passed him clean and he tries to fight me after the race.   I never saw him after I got passed him so I don’t know what he’s talking about.”

11:39

Meanwhile, Andrew Smith, who lost the Pro race on the last lap, discussed his thoughts.“I saw it coming,” said Smith.   It was a good race with everybody beating and banging.   It’s expected, it’s racing man, sometimes it turns out like this, and what do you say?   The track was filthy.   I took the lead on the apron.   The apron was the fastest way around the racetrack for 10 or 15 laps probably.   Then we eventually moved back up on the racing surface and we didn’t have the best car.   We were making do with what we had and got run over.   It happens.

“I’m going to look at the video, we’ve got it on video.   I like Nick.   He’s a good guy and I’ve raced with Kyle a little bit and never had any problems with him, but we’re racecar drivers, kind of like elephants, we don’t forget.”

C MAIN AND B MAIN WINNER’S REACTION

11:41

“It’s very frustrating.   We’ve worked for about  two months to get here and then I screwed the qualifying up.   Practiced in the 90’s and adjusted on the car and we slipped off  3/10ths and that got me here to the C-Main.   If I would have run my practice times we’d be up there in the A-Main.”~ Scott Mosley, Pro C Main Winner

11:42

“It was good.   I just wish I would have made the race [A-Main], but it was still a fun race and I’m glad I did well.”~ Josh Morris, Young Lions B Main Winner

11:43

“It feels really good.     This is probably the biggest win I’ve ever had – I mean I have one overall win ever so I’ll take it.   I have much rather been in the top four  and gotten in to the A Main, but hopefully someone will drop out.   We’ll see what happens.”~ Malcolm Campbell, Semi-Pro B Main winner

11:43

“Oh look, I came thinking I was just going to race a little bit.   We’ve been fighting this track all weekend and finally got the car working and finally and finally got something we could compete with so this is great.”~ Bob Bass, Masters B Main Winner

11:45

“It’s great and it got us into the show and that’s the biggest thing that matters right now – to get in the A Main.   We’ll get the car a little bit better for the A Main like I said, and hopefully we can get ourselves a decent top-ten 10if all goes as planned.”~ Mike Alcaro, Pro B Main Winner

A MAIN WINNER’S REACTION AND VICTORY LANE PHOTOS

11:49

Unfortunately the track has decided to cut all power to the lights here in the media area, so we cannot see to update the website.   We are going to pack up and complete the quotes and driver reactions from the winners in about 30 minutes or so from the motel down the road.   We apologize for the inconvenience.

12:24

We are back at the keys and will have winner’s reactions momentarily.

12:28

SCOTT HENSLEY – LEGENDS YOUNG LIONS NATIONALS WINNER
“I especially got to thank Dennis Lambert for setting the car up.   I mean, it was a long  50 laps and I kind of rode around until about that last caution and I saw it was about 10 laps to go, so then I started to really drive it and I got the win.”

12:29

12:30

CODY HASKINS – LEGENDS SEMI-PRO NATIONALS WINNER
“It feels awesome, but really the person that deserves the credit is Doug Sr. and Doug Jr. of Advanced Technology Motorsports for helping me to put this car together last minute.   This is only my third race ever in this car and third race here this year.   I mean Kenzie [Ruston] was real tough and was pulling me right there at the end, and I had messed up on one of those restarts and let her get to close to me.  Other than that, I think she made a couple of mistakes too and I was able to get away.”

12:30

12:32

CLAY HAIR – LEGENDS MASTERS NATIONALS WINNER
“Haynie was all over me and was kind of shoving me down the straightaway and I kind of got to over-driving the car in the corners.   When I got up on the wheel those last five laps, I was just thinking about my wife and kids and the look on their faces if I didn’t bring that trophy home – so that inspired me.”

12:32

12:33

KYLE LOWRY – LEGENDS PRO NATIONALS WINNER
“It was a crazy finish.   My car would not handle at all and I see why now.   We’ve got oil all down the side of it.   But I was just hanging in there, just digging, trying to keep every spot I could keep.   They got wild in front of us and I was just avoiding the wrecks on the last laps – and got the win.   I thought we could be up front.   We were pretty fast all weekend and we were right there.   We were hanging in there in the race and towards the end it went bad with the oil all over the track and everyone getting antsy.   We were just trying to stay up front and stay clean and it worked out.”
