5:54
There are officially 14 laps to go.
5:53
Ward’s car is on the hook and headed back to the pits.
5:51

5:45
20 laps to go: Elliott still leads Lavender by about a full straightaway.
5:43
Coulter hangs on to fourth, but Corey Williams is right on his back bumper.
5:41
30 laps to go. No major battles on the racetrack.
5:40
The several-laps down car of Ryan Blaney is still having problems. His car is sideways through each corner and he’s just trying to hold on to it.
5:39
Devin Jones has caught Joey Coulter for third and now has the spot.
5:38
160 laps in now, 40 to go.
5:38
A few fans are asking, but as we stated earlier, the scoreboard is not working today. We can only relay lap updates when provided across the PASS officials’ frequency.
5:37
Less than 50 to go now. Elliott leads Lavender, Coulter, Jones, Williams, Loden and Fleming.
5:36
Devin Jones has moved to fourth beneath Corey Williams.
5:36
Elliott has put eighth-place Jimmy Weller down a lap. Next to lose a lap is seventh-place Alex Fleming, but there is about a half-track’s gap between Fleming and Elliott.
5:35
Lavender has moved to second by Coulter, but he’s still a straightaway behind Elliott.
5:35
Should he go to victory lane, Chase Elliott would accomplish something his dad never has: a win at North Wilkesboro Speedway.
5:34
Lavender is reeling in Joey Coulter for second, now separated by just three carlengths. Corey Williams and Devin Jones are startin gto mix it up a bit for fourth and fifth.
5:32
Elliott now has almost a full straightaway lead on Coulter. Lavender is 10 carlengths behind Coulter in third.
5:31
Jay Fogleman is the first car one lap down.
5:31
140 laps in. Elliott leads Coulter, Lavender, Wiliams, Jones, Loden, Fleming and Weller as the only cars on the lead lap.
5:31
Top six: Elliott, Coulter, Lavender, Williams, Jones, Loden.
5:30
Elliott has opened up a half-straightaway lead over Coulter.
5:29
Coulter has finally gotten by Peltier. Lavender has Peltier and Fogleman in between him and second-place Coulter.
5:29
The point leader Ryan Blaney is having stagger issues, according to the pit announcer Derek Pernesiglio, and remains on pit road.
5:28
Coulter is having a hard time getting by the lapped car of Preston Peltier. They run side by side.
5:27
GREEN FLAG Lap 128: Elliott took only three-quarters of a lap to get by the lapped down cars that started ahead of him and now shows the way with Joey Coulter up to second.
5:27
Ryan Blaney is back on pit road as the field goes green.
5:27
The laps-down cars of Preston Peltier and Justin Allison will start one-two on the restart, but the leader Chase Elliott and second-place Jody Lavender will make up row two.
5:26
Ryan Blaney is back on pit road to check the lugs on the right-rear.
5:25
The caution flew on lap 128.
5:25
Laps-down cars will restart intermingled with the lead-lap cars. The lead-lap cars running order on the restart will be Elliott, Lavender, Coulter, Jones, Williams, Fleming, Blaney, Weller, Loden.
5:24
Ryan Blaney, Jimmy Weller and Derek Ramstrom all pulled down to pit too early and will be penalized to the rear.
5:22
Andy Loden left the pit box with the fuel can still attached. He has been sent to the rear of the field.
5:22
Lead-lap cars off pit road: Chase Elliott won the race off pit road ahead of Jody Lavender, Andy Loden, Joey Coulter, Devin Jones and Ryan Blaney
5:20
Leaders are on pit road.
5:19
Corey Williams gets the free pass to get back on the lead lap.
5:19
We expect pit stops on this yellow flag from the leaders. Crews are getting ready on pit road.
5:18
YELLOW FLAG: Debris in turn one.
5:18
Alex Fleming has lost seventh and eighth to Jimmy Weller and Joey Coulter.
5:16
Jimmy Weller has peeked under Alex Fleming for sixth, but hasn’t been able to make the pass just yet.
5:16
Elliott is able to get under Lavender off the corners, but Lavender drives deep into the corners to hold the lead.
5:16
Lap 120 in the books: Lavender and Elliott still run nose-to-tail. Third-place Andy Loden is more than a full straightaway behind the top-two.
5:15
Brandon Ward’s #62 has fallen off the pace as his #62 doesn’t sound up to full power.
5:14
Elliott has caught Lavender. Elliott’s #9 rides right on the back bumper of Lavender’s #115.
5:13
Preston Peltier has gone to pit road for tires.
5:13
Chase Elliott has reeled in the leader Jody Lavender for the lead.
5:12
110 of the 200 laps are in the record books. The leaders still have not yet pitted for tires.
5:11
Lavender has put Williams a lap down, leaving only eight cars on the lead lap.
5:10
Lavender has put Fogleman a lap down and now has Corey Williams in sight for going down a lap, as well.
5:09
HALFWAY LAP 100: Jody Lavender leads Chase Elliott, Andy Loden, Devin Jones, Ryan Blaney, Alex Fleming, Jimmy Weller, Joey Coulter, Corey Williams and Jay Fogleman are the top-10 and only cars on the lead lap.
5:07
Ten cars are now on the lead lap as 11th-place Brandon Ward heeds to Lavender.
5:07
Andy Loden has moved to third beneath Devin Jones. Then Loden had to thread the needle between the lapped cars of Heath Hindman and Dean Clattenburg.
5:06
Andy Loden has taken fourth from Ryan Blaney. Many of the leaders are starting to noticably lose grip here at North Wilkesboro as we approach the halfway mark.
5:05
Lavender has put Allison a lap down, as well. Eleven cars are now on the lead lap. That position is held by Brandon Ward.
5:05
Allison has taken 12th on the inside groove as Lavender follows him by Ramstrom.
5:04
Ramstrom and Allison are now side-by-side for 12th just ahead of the leader.
5:04
Positions 12, 13 and 14 are now in danger of losing a lap. Heath Hindman, running 14th, Justin Allison in 13th and Derek Ramstrom in 12th are the next cars to be overtaken by the leader Lavender.
5:03
Jones has fallen into the clutches of Ryan Blaney and Andy Loden.
5:03
Finally Elliott has moved to second as the crowd roars. Many fans here remember watching Chase’s dad Bill race here back in the day.
5:02
Elliott still hounds Jones for second., but Jones is now starting to block the low groove on corner-exit to stop Elliott’s advances.
5:01
Lap 76: Lavender leads Jones, Elliott, Blaney, Loden, Fleming, Weller, Coulter, Williams, Fogleman are the top-10.
5:00
Devin Jones just led Chase Elliott through the middle of a three-wide with the lapped cars of Dean Clattenburg and Preston Peltier on the inside and outside, respectively.
4:59
Lavender has put Clattenburg a lap down and now his lookig nto do the same to DJ Shaw.
4:58
Preston Peltier has gone a second lap down to leader Jody Lavender.
4:58
Chase Elliott is doing everything but drive through Devin Jones for second.
4:57
Dean Clattenburg has continued his backslide. Just a few laps ago, he was solidly in the top-10, but now runs 15th and has only DJ Shaw and Preston Peltier between him and the leader Lavender.
4:56
Lap 64 in the books. Lavender leads Jones, Elliott, Loden, Blaney, Fogleman, Fleming, Weller, Williams and Coulter.
4:55
Corey Williams has gone to ninth by Clattenburg and he took Joey Coulter with him to 10th.
4:54
Jody Lavender has put Chris Bohlman a lap down.
4:53
Three-car battle now for second. Chase Elliott tries either the outside or the inside in each corner around Devin Jones, but can’t make either work just yet. Andy Loden has caught them and now runs right behind in fourth.
4:53
John Batten has gone to the garage, as well.
4:52
Justin Wakefield is back on pit road with the #98 and has taken it now to the garage. They fought transmission problems yesterday in practice, but again had mechanical problems here today.
4:51
Top 10 reset: Lavender, Jones, Loden, Blaney, Fogleman, Clattenburg, Weller, Fleming, Williams, Ward.
4:50
Chase Elliott has started to put some pressure on Devin Jones for second.
4:49
John Baatten has taken the #48 to pit road.
4:49
Andy Loden has taken fourth from Fogleman.
4:49
The top three have checked out, with Lavender leading Jones and Elliott. Ten carlengths behind them are Fogleman, Loden, Blaney, Clattenburg, Weller and Fleming.
4:48
Andy Loden has passed Blaney.
4:47
GREEN FLAG: Ryan Blaney did not come up to speed on the restart. He got jacked up by Andy Loden. Blaney dropped from third to sixth and Loden from fifth to seventh. All cars continued on without further incident.
4:46
RESTART ORDER: Lavender, Jones, Blaney, Elliott, Loden, Fogleman, Williams, Clattenburg, Hindman, Weller, Ward, Fleming, Coulter, Wakefield, Shaw, Ramstrom, Bohlman.
4:45
One lap to green.
4:44
Cars pitting under caution: Justin Allison, Justin Wakefield, Derek Ramstrom, Tim Pinion.
4:43
DJ Shaw is the free pass recipient and is now back on the lead lap.
4:43
No further contact was made by any car. Samantha Vannoy, who is shown many laps down, has gone to the garage area, joining Steven Legendre, Trey Mitchell and Kenzie Ruston.
4:42
YELLOW FLAG: Lap 36: Corey Williams passed Justin Allison for seventh, but then Allison and Joey Coulter made contact, sending those two spinning.
4:41
GREEN FLAG Lap 34: The top-four quickly get single file, with Lavender leading Jones, Blaney and Elliott.
4:40
One lap to green.
4:40
DJ Shaw has made a handful of pit stops during this extended yellow flag. He has an ecclectic mix of pit crew members here today. His dad, veteran New England short tracker Dale Shaw, is here, as is Jason Ricker, who has crew chiefed several different Super Late Models in recent seasons. Part-time PASS South regular Bradley McCaskill and Shaw’s NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Crew Chief Clinton Cram are also here working on the #60 car.
4:36
He should be the first car unofficially one lap down.
4:35
Comment From Pass South Fan

Did Preston go a lap down

4:34
Track crews are putting a bunch of oil-dry from the exit of turn four all the way back to the entrance of turn three…three-quarters of the track soaked down with oil from Trey Mitchell’s car.
4:31
This is an eight-tire race; the four tires they start on and four more may be changed at any point during the race.
4:31
Comment From Bigbill

How many sets of tires are they allowed?

4:30
Caution flew on lap 34. Again, caution laps do not count.
4:29
Wakefield’s team, rather than changing tires, has swapped right side tires. Shaw’s team is making some adjustments to the right-front suspension.
4:28
Cars pitting under caution: Peltier, Batten, Hindman, Ramstrom, Wakefield, Shaw, Weller, Pinion and Vannoy.
4:28
Jody Lavender leads Devin Jones, Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, Andy Loden, Justin Allison, Jay Fogleman, Dean Clattenburg, Chris Bohlman and Corey Williams.
4:27
Samantha Vannoy has re-fired her carn and has joined the pack.
4:27
Mitchell has stoped his car in turn three. It’s a blown engine for Mitchell. Justin Wakefield is the free pass recipient and is back on the lead lap.
4:27
YELLOW FLAG: Trey Mitchell has dropped a ton of fluid through the frontstretch and turns one and two. Samantha Vannoy has spun in the fluid.
4:25
Lavender has just put John Batten a lap down. The next cars in Lavender’s sights for going down a lap are championship contender Preston Peltier, Justin Wakefield and PASS North regular Derek Ramstrom.
4:24
Legendre has taken his car to pit road and the crew is pushing the #20 back to the garage, where he will join Kenzie Ruston as out of this race.
4:23
Leader Jody Lavender has just put DJ Shaw a lap down.
4:23
Lap 25: Jody Lavender leads Devin Jones, Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott and Trey Mitchell.
4:23
Steven Legendre has slowed off turn four while running 10th. That caused a big stackup with himself, Heath Hindman, Joey Coulter and the lapped car of Vannoy. Coulter nearly spun Vannoy as they all checked up out of the way of Legendre.
4:22
1-10: Lavender, Jones, Blaney, Mitchell, Elliott, Loden, Allison, Fogleman, Clattenburg, Legendre.11-20: Fleming, Hindman, Coulter, Williams, Wakefield, Ward, Weller, Peltier, Ramstrom, Batten. DJ Shaw is 21st.
4:20
Battle for fourth is heating up as Chase Elliott has reeled in Trey Mitchell. Andy Loden runs fifth about 10 carlengths behind that battle.
4:20
Samantha Vannoy has gone another lap down.
4:19
Again, without an operating scoreboard here, we’ll only be able to update our lap count when PASS officials relay it over the radio.
4:18
The entire lead-lap contingent is single file. Lavender leads Jones, Blaney, Mitchell, Elliott, Allison, Loden, Fogleman, Clattenburg, Legendre and Fleming.
4:18
Leader Jody Lavender has put Samantha Vannoy a lap down.
4:17
Broken locker in the rear end is the culprit for Kenzie Ruston. She has gone to the garage area.
4:16
Lap 3: Black flag is out for Tim Pinion as part of his exhaust is sticking out of the #42.
4:16
Top five are single file: Lavender, Jones, Blaney, Mitchell, Allison. Behind them, Andy Loden and Chase Elliott ride side-by-side.
4:15
Ruston came back on track as the field completed lap one, but is well off the pace.
4:15
GREEN FLAG: We’re racing here at North Wilkesboro. Jody Lavender has pulled into the lead with Jones second and Blaney up to thrid as the top-five are single file to complete the first lap.
4:14
Ruston’s misfortune puts the outside row up one spot each, as now Devin Jones will start on the outside of Jody Lavender.
4:14
One lap to green. Ruston remains on pit road.
4:13
Ruston’s team has jacked up the rear end of the #39. The are working on the left-rear.
4:12
The packed grandstands just before the command to fire engines.
4:11
Under the pace laps, Kenzie Ruston has slowed to a crawl and dropped to the rear of the field. She has taken her car onto pit road as the field paces behind the pace car.
4:08
The command has been given. Twenty-five PASS South Super Late Models have roared to life in the biggest event here at North Wilkesboro in 14 years.
4:06
Again, today’s race is 200 green flag laps with live pit stops. Strategy undoubtedly will play a huge role in the outcome of today’s race.
4:03
Drivers are strapping into their cars. The crowd as pictured earlier has doubled. Now all but the first five rows of the grandstands, from turn four to turn one, are full. If we were to guess, we’d say upwards of 15,000 people are here.
3:57

3:46
Gus Dean has won the Allison Legacy feature over Justin Allison and Tyler Hill.
3:39
With two laps to go, leader Garrett Bunch and second-place Gus Dean made contact in turn one.  Bunch spun out, Dean continued on and Bunch was clobbered by another car that was running mid-pack and didn’t slow enough for the caution.
3:22
As we mentioned earlier, the track’s scoreboard is not in operation here today.  But, we have arranged to re-locate to where we can get lap updates occasionally when provided by PASS officials during the Labor Day Classic 200.
3:19
After a side-by-side battle, Garrett Bunch has taken the lead away from Justin Allison and also took Gus Dean with him to second.
3:14
Justin Allison, Donnie Allison’s grandson, leads early on here in the Allison Legacy Series feature.  Garrett Bunch runs second ahead of Gus Dean, Bobby McCarty and Tyler Hill.

Unfortunately the North Wilkesboro Speedway scoreboard is not in operation today.  This will cause some confusion as to what lap we are on throughout the day, but we’ll do our best to get whatever info we can on what lap we are on.

Comment From Ricky in TX

Congratulations Andy – Wish I could have been there to see it

1:43
Indeed.  In fact, this same Watson car was supposed to have been driven by Modified ace Ted Christopher at a PASS North race a few weeks back at Thompson Speedway (CT), but some ignition problems kept that from happening.Earlier today in practice, Clattenburg’s ignition cut out late in the final session, but the team was able to rectify the problem and lay down a good qualifying run.
1:42
Comment From Elmo

Is the #80 that Dean Clattenburg driving the same #80 of Maine car owner Brad Watson? It looks like the car that Louie Mechalides drives for him up North.

1:40

Thanks 51 for the coverage. I wanted to get up there but wasn’t able to. So I’ll be tuned in today.

Comment From Bob Dillner

Lotta people asking about the PASS race at North Wilkesboro here in the NASCAR garage at Atlanta.

Comment From Matt

Well, I’d say Andy Loden answered my question of how fast are these cars here as compared to the Cup cars in the day before I could even ask it..

12:50
Today’s race will be 200 green flag laps with double-file restarts throughout the race.  There will be live pit stops, no halfway break, so several teams have brought in professional pit crews from various pit instruction schools or other series’ not in action today.

While there were a lot of questions about how the condition of the racetrack here today after sitting mostly dormant for 14 years since the last Cup race, there had been a decent amount of work done here to make the experience for the teams and fans here a good one.  There have been a few capital improvements, including the painting of some of the walls around the track, but other than that and some cleanup around the facility, the track looks quite a bit like it did back in 1996.
11:58
PASS South point leader Ryan Blaney moves beneath Joey Coulter earlier today in practice.

Comment From Matt

WOW! I used to love watching Gardiner race as a kid. Then, he turned the wheel over to Brad Leighton in around 1991. Yup, that’s certainly awesome to see the 1X live on. I’d sure love to see them bring that to the PASS 400 nextweekend in Maine.

11:53
Preston Peltier’s Johnson Motorsports #26 is back to his old paint scheme that was always on his family-owned #5’s over the years.
11:51
Indeed it is.  Steve Leavitt, Gardiner’s son, has a successful chassis shop and parts buisiness in Mooresville, NC.  Several New Englanders are here with Williams’ car this weekend and elsewhere in the pits, and everyone agrees that it’s pretty cool to see a Leavitt #1x back on the track.
11:50
Comment From Matt

Gardiner Leavitt used to field the 1X up here in Maine back in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Is this by chance the same family?

11:46
Corey Williams is making his first start in PASS South this season.
11:46
Corey Williams has partnered with Leavitt Chassis to compete in the Leavitt #1x house car here tonight.

Practice has concluded here at North Wilkesboro.  It’s a hurry-up day to get all these events in because without lights here at the track, we’re banging events out quickly. Now the Allison Legacy cars are getting ready to qualify.
