TECH UPDATE: Tim Brown has cleared tech and is the official winner of the inaugural KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series.

11:04
We appreciate series race director Randy Myers taking time to speak with us. Here’s what he had to say: There was a mandatory pit stop during the race. He made sure this was relayed to teams through race officials at multiple points throughout the race as he feels it was properly mentioned but not stressed during the drivers’ meeting. The mandatory pit stop could come at any point during the race. If the caution had come out, teams could have stopped then too. In a sense tonight’s confusion was caused by a lack of cautions after lap 50. The pit stop COULD include a tire swap if it came before lap 100. If the stop came after 100, the stop and go was the only allowed action. As such, Myers maintains Tim Brown as the rightful winner, having done a stop and go on lap 112. Myers understands some particular teams are angriest about this interpretation and says he accepts responsibility for the issue tonight. He does not anticipate the rule changing necessarily before the next race, but it will definitely be further fleshed out. Myers maintains the point of this race is to add a level of strategy to the tour that is not visible in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour, which has a mandatory halfway break. He points to the 20 lead changes tonight as a sign that when strategy is introduced, fans see a better show. Admittedly, the execution of these strategy methods created confusion tonight, but Myers feels it is still in the best interest of the series long term.

Officials have gone over the timing and scoring and we will have a revised finish. The revision comes in the middle of the field where Spencer Davis did finish on the lead lap in fourth. Five cars were on the lead lap at the finish.
10:55
We have just talked with race officials and will have more in a moment. But we have also confirmed one very positive number: 20 lead changes tonight.
10:53
We appreciate you hanging with us. Our reporter is currently waiting to talk to a series official. Once he has completed that conversation, we will hopefully answer the questions lingering after the checkered flag fell.

One of the biggest early-season Outlaw Super Late Model events in the country takes place on May 24…it’s the Joy Fair Memorial presented by Diamond Pistons at Flat Rock Speedway. Be there when some of the baddest and fastest racecars on the planet battle in a historic event at the Flat Rock bullring. Click here for more information.
10:44
Jeremy Mayfield is all smiles after the race. He said he was grateful for the opportunity and had a lot of fun.
10:39
Tim Brown tells us that his team followed the rules best they were told – that they simply had to make a pit stop at any point during the race. He feels bad that confusion altered the finish but as far as he was concerned the pit stop controversy did not affect the ultimate outcome as he was well in the lead when this all started. It’s a new tour, Brown said, and they will figure it out before their next race.
10:36
According to the scoring monitor, we are showing the top four were on the lead lap at the finish. Positions 5-8 were one lap down.
10:32
Spencer Davis is another confused soul. He tells 51 his crew was told by track officials they both had to pit AND jack the car up. He also isn’t sure how he wound up eighth since he followed Burt Myers across the line.
10:31
Thank you for staying with us. Our reporter is still on the scene and we will stay on until the results are official.

The second race of the Bright House Series takes place at New Smyrna Speedway on Saturday, April 5th. Back at the season opener at Desoto Speedway on February 1st, Joe Boyd held off Wayne Anderson and Jesse Dutilly to take the first Bright House win of the year. Click here for more information.
10:19
There are two points of contention best we can tell. First, Tim Brown pitted by our record at lap 112. Secondly, Brown’s pit stop was more like a stop and go while every other team jacked up the rear of their cars. There is some argument that Brown didn’t actually stop.
10:16
Here’s what we know: In the initial rules meeting in January, a mandatory pit stop policy was fleshed out. Teams had to stop at or before lap 100 to avoid a two lap penalty.
10:15
Definitely a lot of confusion and honestly anger in the pits about the rules for tonight’s race.

It is the number one Outlaw Super Late Model event in the nation! The Kalamazoo Klash XXII will take place on Wednesday, August 13 at the Kalamazoo Speedway in Kalamazoo, MI. Last year, Terry Senneker won the Klash and picked up the $10,000 check. It was the second year in a row, and third Klash win overall in his career. Tyler Roahrig, Phil Bozell and many more will try to take over Senneker’s place on top of the podium in 2014. Click here to make your plans now for this year’s event!

So if the first three cars pick the inside of the cone, the fourth place car can pick the outside and be the outside pole for the restart

Top Five so far in practice…

1. Tim Brown 14.310
2. Renee Dupuis 14.518
2. Burt Myers 14.518
4. Mike Speeney 14.661
5. Jeremy Mayfield 14.664

4:12
Jeremy Mayfield, who did not practice first session, is now out and logging laps. Mayfield, of course, has been in the limelight in recent years for failing NASCAR’s substance abuse tests and then an arrest in North Carolina on theft charges. Mayfield though has equally been working hard behind the scenes to get back into a racecar. This is his first competitive race in nearly five years tonight and, to the best of our knowledge as we have not had a chance to confirm this with Mayfield today, his first Tour-Type Modified start of any type in his career.

As of this moment, there are six officially scheduled KOMA Unwind Modified Madness dates. A number of other tracks have expressed interest in running the tour this season, but are closely watching this inaugural event to ensure the product at their track can be successful. Certainly having a solid first field is a good first step.

Walking around the pits, one can definitely feel the optimism and energy around this tour. It’s a good mix of the NASCAR Southern Modified drivers, Bowman Gray Stadium regulars, and even a few new Modified faces like Gale, Weber and Mayfield. Sponsor KOMA has gone all out with their promotion here today. Lots of tables and interaction opportunities for fans coming to the track as well as branding on the tour trailer and tour racecars.
The six race schedule as it stands today, with multiple other dates TBA is:

22-Mar-14 Hickory Motor Speedway
13-Jun-14 Ace Speedway
5-Jul-14 Hickory Motor Speedway
15-Aug-14 Anderson Motor Speedway
1-Sep-14 Ace Speedway
11-Oct-14 Orange County Speedway
