Bowman Gray Stadium officials have confirmed that they are changing the way that they determine points for the Modified twin 25-lap races, which begin here on May 3rd. Instead of awarding points for the first race and then points for the second race, they will be awarding points based on the average finish between the two races. After a few calculations, officials have determined that it really gives drivers an incentive to get up on the wheel in the second race. An increase in track position could mean 10 points instead of traditionally one point.

Tim Brown holds every record at the Stadium with the exception of the Modified wins total.   Brown now enters 2014 just two wins away from taking that honor to go along with his all-time pole record and his nine championships.

“When I drive from work at Michael Waltrip Racing to my shop I have an hour and half where I think and try   to cross all the T’s and   I’s on what I can do better,” said Brown to 51 earlier this month.   “To think I am two wins away from holding all the records at the stadium.   That’s awesome to think about.”

First round qualifying was held last night. Burt Myers and Tim Brown, two drivers you would well expect to, were the fastest two qualifiers in town. Some drivers will have the chance to top their previous night’s time. However, if drivers go out and go slower, that time will count ultimately. So it’s risk versus reward, and usually very little reward for those who try.
