History of the Ice Breaker: Since 1981, Super Late Models from all across the county have kicked off their season in Florida. One of the most historic season-opening events has been the annual “Ice Breaker 100” normally run at Desoto Super Speedway in Florida. The event which is rich in history and the tradition now has a new venue for 2013. Moving from Desoto to Citrus County Speedway just adds excitement for the future.

Big names like Trickle, Anderson, Gill, Miller, Mader and several others have captured the historic race. The race has flown under the NASCAR banner and Pro Cup Late Model banners in years past, but now the Florida United Promoters Late Model Series has top billing for the Ice Breaker 100.

The event will start off the 2013 season for the Florida United Promoters Late Model Series. There have been five previous races at Citrus County in the series and a total of four different winners. Steve Dorer, Wayne Anderson, Tim Russell and Herb Neumann, Jr. have all tasted victory at Citrus County.

The series is reporting a strong entry list and a even more impressive 2013 rookie class. The Racecar Engineering Rookie of the Year Award will see Jessica Murphy, Anthony Cattaldi, Dylan Bigley and Randy Anderson all contending for the honors.

Jesse Dutilly, Jake Perkins, Jonathan Guy, Daniel Webster, and Jeff Scofield have to be the early contenders for the championship. The talented rookie class could also shake things up a bit. Dorer, the defending champion, told Speed51.com this winter that he planned to run select events in the Florida area.

Historic Memories:

1980 – Dick Anderson wins the first Ice Breaker
1985 – Lee Roy Porter holds off Dick Trickle for the win
1987 – Dick Trickle wins his second Ice Breaker 100 in a row
1990 – Bobby Gill wins Ice Breaker 100
1995 – Dick Anderson takes his third Ice Breaker 100 win
2001 – Dick Anderson picks up win number four
2003 – BJ McLeod wins the race at age of 19
2007 – Jeff Scofield wins to start amazing year
2009 – Wayne Anderson wins to become first father-son winner
2011 – Anthony Campi starts season with a win
2012 – Steve Dorer starts Championship year with a win

Today’s racing action will see the following divisions on the track: Late Models, Bandoleros, Legends, Open Wheel Modified, Sportsman, Pure Stocks, Mini Stock and Street Stocks.
