The track is 1/4-mile semi-banked asphalt oval and provides some of the best two wide racing around.  There is not really a preferred groove.  Some can have their cars work well in the outside groove while others work the inside. Either way, fans typically do sit on the edge of their seats.

This is the fourth year that State Park Speedway is operated under the watchful eye of Ron & Scott Wimmer.  Many family and friends help them out during their Thursday night race programs throughout the season.  The track has seen a resurgence and packs the grandstands for big events like this.

Tonight’s race is in honor of Flip Merwin, a former snowmobile racer and crew member for Scott Wimmer when Scott ran the short tracks in the Midwest. Sadly, Flip lost his life during a snowmobile race in 2003.  That same year, they started the Flip Merwin Memorial which has become one of the track signature events each year.
