Danny Darnell will the first car out.
4:59
A few minutes away from ASA Midwest Tour Qualifying.
4:47
For our deep south race fans this place has the feel of the old Birmingham Int’l Raceway (AL). The long straight-aways and sweeping corners have the feel of the old historic track that is no more. Tonight we will have a good show as we remember about the old Alabama track.

Good to see Chris Purdy putting the #25 on top of the speed charts. Nice Job!

Comment From Dan Vining

Sounds like qualifying will be intense. Large car count, and only 26 making the field means there will be a lot of teams loading up earlier than they would like.

4:17
The starting field will consist of 26 cars. Positions 1-18 will come from
qualifying with and inversion of Eight (8) plus the roll of the dice. Positions
(19-23) will come from the last chance event. Provisional position 24-
Highest in 2011 ASAMT Points, Position 25- Highest in Illiana Motor
Speedway 2011 Points, Position 26- Highest Touring Star to not make the
event. If ALL Touring Stars are in the event, the provisional reverts back to
the Highest in 2011 points to not make the event
4:14
Time trials will be up in a few minutes.
4:11
Don’t forget that the other half of our Speed51.com crew is at Langley Speedway (VA) for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East event. www.speed51.com/2011_Stories/KN_East/Trackside_now_Langley_6-18.html

Little Back Ground on Illiana Motor Speedway
When the track opened, in 1947, it was a 1/2-mile dirt track. In 1964 the track was paved. Today the track is a 1/2-mile asphalt oval with an inner 1/4 mile. During the 1962 season the track’s owner Harry Molenaar created a season-ending 100-lap race called the “Tony Bettenhausen Memorial” dedicated to the memory of former open wheel Indy car and local racer Tony Bettenhausen who died a year earlier in a racing accident. In 2000 the speedway was repaved for the first time in nearly 40 years and current owner Mike Mikuly bought the track and also installed cement walls to replace the old guard rails.
2:24
Correction the 76 of A.J. Henriksen is not here today. We are working with ASA Midwest officials to see who is here. We can get lost real quick with close to 40 cars in the pits.
2:23
Boris Jurkovic leads Nick Murgic and Chris Wimmer.

Little Back Ground on Elmer Musgrave
Elmer Musgrave was a Chicagoland icon both racing and winning at Illiana Motor Speedway, Grundy County Speedway and the old Waukegan Speedway, where he was also the 1952 stock car champion and the winningest driver throughout the 1950’s. In addition, Musgrave competed in the USAC and ARCA divisions, winning two USAC events and five ARCA series events. Elmer passed away on September 20th, 2000 at the age of 72.
