Comment From Lenny

Congrats to Rogers on the win,and Swaim on the championship

1:01

Officials have just said that by 18 points, Travis Swaim is the 2012 UARA-STARS Champion.

1:00

Brodie Kostecki made a late charge to pull up to third as Darrell Wallace and Blake Jones were side-by-side for fourth. Scoring gives it to Blake Jones with Wallace fifth, unofficially.

12:59

CHECKERED FLAG: Clay Rogers dominates for victory with Dillon Bassett following in second.

12:59

Remember, Rogers spun off turn four with just a few laps remaining here at Rockingham earlier this year…can he hold on this time?

12:58

WHITE FLAG for Clay Rogers

12:58

Rogers pulls away up front, leaving Basset and Wallace to settle second

12:58

Lap 73: Bassett tried to go low on Rogers for the lead, but Rogers Slammed the door.

12:57

Rogers clears Bassett into turn three with Wallace third. Brodie Kostecki is underneath Turlington for fifth.

12:57

GREEN FLAG Lap 71: Rogers pulls away at the start and is taking Darrell Wallace, Jr. with him on the high side.

12:56

Lawson leaves pit road and re-joins at the tail.

12:56

One lap to green.

12:56

The green flag will come on lap 71, leaving four laps (barring green-white-checkered flag laps) in the 2012 UARA-STARS season.

12:55

Chris Lawson comes to pit road now that the field is back under yellow.

12:47

Reports indicate it’s Zeke Shell that is the reason for the caution.

12:47

YELLOW FLAG Lap 66: Spin on the back stretch. The car is against the inside wall and we can’t see who it is.

12:46

Lap 63: Joyce and Wallace continue to battle side by side. Now Joyce is trying the inside as Brodie Kostecki and Jeremy Burns wait for something to happen.

12:45

Lap 62: Joyce is looking to the outside of Wallace in turn three, but can’t make it work just yet in a battle for fourth.

12:45

The K & N cars wait for their chance to grid

12:44

Lap 61: Rogers leads by four car lengths on Bassett. Bassett is up nine car lengths on Turlington.

12:44

Darrell Wallace is up to fourth and has Cory Joyce filling up his rear view mirror

12:43

GREEN FLAG Lap 58: Good start for Rogers as he clears Bassett. Turlington settles into third.

12:43

We just checked with NASCAR officials. Several K&N East drivers missed the autograph session last night, but none will be penalized. The only cars going to the rear will be Sergio Pena for an engine change, plus Chuck Buchanan and Beto Monteiro for unapproved adjustments following qualifying.

12:43

Comment From Greg

Is it true that Darrell Wallace Jr will have to start from the rear of the K&N race for missing the autograph session last night?

12:40

Ironically, this will be the third straight year that the UARA champion had engine problems in the final race of the season at Rockingham. In 2010, Coleman Pressley had engine problems, but still earned enough points to lock up the title. Last year, Brennan Poole already had the title wrapped up going into Rockingham, which was good for him because he also had engine problems. Now, it’s trouble for Swaim this year.

Justin Boston takes his 51 to pit road under this caution. Travis Swaim is also back on pit road with the hood up. Again, it appears that regardless of what happens, he will be the 2012 UARA champion. That is unofficial until the race ends, of course.

12:33

Perhaps a flat right-rear for Rayhall as the crew rolls out a new tire for that spot.

12:32

On the green, Sean Rayhall did not come up to speed. He has brought the 14 to pit road

12:32

Lap 47: Rogers leads with Bassett on the inside and Turlington outside in a battle for second.

12:32

GREEN FLAG: Good start for Rogers as he clears Bassett as Turlington is joining him on the high side.

12:24

12:24

12:16

Swaim returned to the track and came back in the next lap. Crew under the hood and dropped a bunch of water into the radiator.

12:15

An oil line came loose on Blake Jones’ car to bring out the yellow. the crew has tightened things up and the 80 is back on track.

12:15

According to Mike Skinner, who is officially out of the race, it is a water pump belt that is being replaced on Swaim’s car.

12:14

We’re checking the points situation and it appears that Swaim is safe from losing the championship lead now that Skinner and Chandler LeVan, who never took the green, are out of the race. We’re double-checking that math, but it will be close.

Lap 19: Blake Jones, who is racing with a backup engine after blowing the primary yesterday, moves to second with a high-side pass of Dillon Bassett.

12:08

Lap 17: Rogers still leads Dillon Bassett up front, but Blake Jones and Brodie Kostecki are quickly gaining on Bassett to make it a battle for second.

12:07

Lap 15: Report from the pits is that the issue under the hood on Swaim’s car, perhaps a plug wire gone bad, can be replaced by parts from Skinner’s car. Both cars are pitted together on pit road.

12:06

Now Swaim

12:06

Lap 14: Point leader Travis Swaim is on pit road with his teammate. Big championship implications.

12:06

12:04

Lap 10: Swaim is now last as they run on the track.

12:04

Corey LaJoie’s father, two time NASCAR Nationwide Series titlist Randy LaJoie, is in the infield media center as well right now. He is eagerly reviewing the NASCAR point structure with NASCAR officials, trying to figure out the scenarios it would take for Corey to win the title.

Randy never won a NASCAR K & N Pro Series title or even a series race. But he was the last titlist of the NASCAR North Tour back in 1985, more or less the series that became the Busch North Series (today known as the K & N Pro) when NASCAR re-invested in the region back in 1987.
