Unofficial Finishing Order

1 23 J.P. Morgan 250
2 16 Clay Rogers 250
3 56 Gus Dean 250
4 02 Tyler Young 250
5 2 Brady Boswell 250
6 05 Codie Rohrbaugh 249
7 1 Dalton Hopkins 248
8 26 Dylan Presnell 248
9 33 Ryan Heavner 248
10 21 Eric Gerchak 127

9:10

CHECKERED: J.P. Morgan claims the Palmetto State 250 over Clay Rogers, Gus Dean, Tyler Young, and Brady Boswell.

9:10

WHITE FLAG: Rogers has trimmed the lead back in a bit, but it won’t be enough.

9:10

Lap 248: New papa J.P. Morgan is about to win his third race of the season and remain undefeated at Anderson Motor Speedway.

9:09

Lap 245: High five for Morgan as he is pulling away in these waning laps. Presnell passes Heavner for 8th.

9:07

Lap 242: J.P. Morgan easily laps Presnell and Heavner for a second time without any major issues.

9:07

Lap 241: Morgan has opened it back up over Rogers in the last few laps, he is 1.75 seconds up.

9:07

Lap 240: If the race were to end right now, with ten laps to go, Morgan would trim 25 points off of Rogers’ championship lead. Morgan entered today’s race trailing by 96 points in the standings.

9:06

Lap 235: Morgan’s lead holds at a second. The leaders might catch Presnell again before the end of this race, but otherwise track looks clear.

9:05

Lap 232: Hopkins by Heavner for 7th.

9:04

Lap 230: Twenty laps remain in the Palmetto State 250. Championship rivals Morgan and Rogers duking it out with Morgan holding a lead at just under a second.

9:04

Lap 228: Morgan laps Rohrbaugh.

9:03

Lap 227: Rogers back to second spot.

9:03

Lap 225: Twenty-five to go. Rogers has caught Dean for second.

9:02

Lap 223: Now that Dean has cleared Heavner, the gap stands at 1.3 seconds, twice what it was before they caught lapped traffic.

9:02

Lap 221: Morgan laps Hopkins and Heavner without any difficulty. He gets through so cleanly his lead has ballooned once more.

9:01

Lap 220: Dean has also made up some ground in recent laps, the gap has shrunk to four carlengths.

9:01

Lap 217: We say lead “trio” because Clay Rogers has creeped back into the picture. He has left Young and is trailing Morgan by just a second and a half now.

9:00

Lap 215: Lapped traffic will likely play a factor in the outcome. Heavner, Rohrbaugh, and Hopkins are all on the same straight away as the lead trio.

9:00

Lap 213: Dylan Presnell loses the lead lap. Morgan caught him in a tough spot and loses a bit of his lead to Dean in the process.

9:00

8:59

Lap 212: The top-four are all on the same straightaway, but – again – matching lap times. Not much gaining or losing right now.

8:58

Lap 208: Morgan continues to run in the 17.5 range as does Dean. Rogers and the rest of the field stuck in the 17.6 area.

8:57

Lap 205: Hopkins has passed Presnell for eighth.

8:56

Lap 202: Rogers beginning to get breathing room from closest pursuer Young. However, he remains 2.3 seconds back. Dean’s deficit to Morgan holds steady at a second.

8:55

Lap 200: Fifty laps to go. J.P. Morgan continues to lead as he looks to remain undefeated in X-1R Pro Cup Series history at Anderson.

8:55

Lap 197: Young starting to work the second groove as he looks for some extra momentum. Rogers, who we saw run the high line in that first run, seems as though he prefers the bottom as he has been glued to the apron for the second half of this race.

8:54

Lap 195: Morgan continues to pace Dean, Rogers, Young, Boswell, Heavner, Rohrbaugh, Presnell, and Hopkins.

8:53

Lap 190: Just like the last run, once we’ve gotten a few laps down, Morgan’s lead stabilizes. Dean is pretty much matching lap times as he resides right at a second behind the leader.

8:51

Lap 185: Young continues his march, he is pressuring Rogers now for third. Behind them, Rohrbaugh takes 7th from Dylan Presnell.

8:50

Lap 183: Now Young takes fourth from Brady Boswell.

8:50

Lap 180: Morgan opens a big lead up on Dean quickly. Young is by Heavner for fifth.

8:49

Lap 178: Morgan does the slide job to retain the lead out of turn four.

8:49

Caution Laps: 171-177RESTART: Dean keeping Morgan honest through the first set of turns.

8:48

Eric Gerchak looks as though he’ll be watching the rest of this race from the sidelines (Speed51.com Photo)

8:48

Hopkins got the free pass. All nine cars left on the track are on the lead lap.

8:47

Presnell and Rohrbaugh pitting under this yellow.

8:46

CAUTION #2 – Lap 171: Debris reported on the track.

8:45

Lap 170: Eighty laps to go. The back half of the field seem to have made some signfiicant gains on their pit stops as the running order this half is generally much tigheter. Morgan is still half a lap away from lapping anyone.

8:45

8:44

Lap 166: Morgan and Dean trade lap times. One lap Dean is faster by a tenth, then Morgan, then Dean, then Morgan. The lead as it stands now remains at eight tenths of a second.

8:44

Gerchak is out of the car now and watching the race from pit road. So it seems like they are done for the night, yes.

8:43

Comment From Lou This is sure going to hurt Gerchak in the points and ROTY battle. Does he look done for the night?

8:43

Lap 160: Dean, ever so slightly, eating into Morgan’s lead. It’s a eight-tenths of a second now. Rogers has fallen further back as Boswell continues to ride in his tire tracks. That duo is two seconds off the lead.

8:41

Lap 155 – Running Order:1) #23 Morgan
2) #56 Dean
3) #16 Rogers
4) #2 Boswell
5) #33 Heavner

6) #02 Young
7) #26 Presnell
8) #05 Rohrbaugh
9) #1 Hopkins (-1)
10) #21 Gerhak (OFF)

8:40

Lap 151: Young has gone ahead and taken 6th from Presnell. Now Rohrbaugh pressures Presnell for seventh.

8:40

Lap 150  – One hundred to go. Dean trails Morgan by just under a second.

8:39

Lap 148: Dean moves into the runner-up spot with just over 100 laps to go. Boswell is still lurking as well as he sizes up Rogers.

8:39

Lap 147: Here comes Dean under Rogers for second.

8:38

Lap 144: Big-time slip for Boswell will cost him 3rd to Dean and maybe 4th to Heavner.

8:37

Lap 143: Young now working all over Presnell for 6th

8:36

Lap 140: Morgan’s lead holds steady at a second. Rogers has not been able to shake Boswell, Dean, and Heavner as 2nd-5th run nose to tail.

8:35

Lap 136: Morgan leads Rogers, Boswell, Dean, Heavner, Presnell, Young, Rohrbaugh, Hopkins (-1), and Gerchak (OFF)

8:35

Lap 135: Gerchak has returned to the pits and the team is under the hood.

8:34

Lap 134: Heavner finishes the pass of Presnell for fifth.

8:34

Lap 132: Now Boswell clears Dean. Boswell in fact is already rapping right on Rogers’ rear bumper.

8:34

Lap 131: Dean and Boswell, Heavner and Presnell still door to door for their spots. Dean trying really hard to keep his car under control as Boswell has him pinned on the apron.

8:33

Lap 129: Morgan also waving bye-bye to the other cars on the track, give him a three carlength lead down the frontstretch.

8:33

Lap 127: Dean fights right back though. Door to door for third. Then door to door for fifth with Heavner under Presnell.

8:32

Lap 126: Boswell also benefits from the high line, he is by Dean for third.

8:32

RESTART – Morgan chose the inside line and it pays off for him as he clears Rogers down the backstretch.

8:32

Gerchak made it out in time for the restart.

8:31

Cars are back on the track and we will be doubling up for the restart in just a second.

8:28

Morgan’s team straps on fresh rubber (Speed51.com Photo)

8:28

Gerchak’s team has confirmed they are leaking something. Series officials have told the team if they can fix the leak before we go back to green they can remain on the lead lap since yellow flag laps do not count under the halfway break.

8:27

Clay Rogers gets four feel goods (Speed51.com Photo)

8:25

Series officials have asked Eric Gerchak’s team to raise the hood under this break as they believe some fluid is coming out of the #21.

8:23

Cars being brought down pit road now for the break. Four-tire changes and any other “normal” pit stop activities are allowed. Cars will return to the track in the order they came in.

8:22

Running Order at Halfway

1 23 J.P. Morgan 125
2 16 Clay Rogers 125
3 56 Gus Dean 125
4 2 Brady Boswell 125
5 33 Ryan Heavner 125
6 26 Dylan Presnell 125
7 02 Tyler Young 125
8 21 Eric Gerchak 125
9 05 Codie Rohrbaugh 124
10 1 Dalton Hopkins 124

8:21

Lap 125 – CAUTION – Halfway break. Young was able to scoot by Gerchak for seventh by a nose before the yellow waved.

8:20

Lap 123: As we predicted, Dean has caught Rogers. Meanwhile, Young all over Gerchak for seventh.

8:20

Lap 122: Morgan again giving up ground on Rogers and Dean, his lead has been cut to 1.1 seconds. But it is likely he is just coasting for a few more laps.

8:18

Lap 120: Presnell by Gerchak for sixth. Young fast approaching Gerchak for seventh.

8:18

Lap 120: Rogers has fallen back again now, but Dean is still coming. He’s on pace to be at Rogers’ decklid at right at halfway.

8:17

Lap 115: Don’t look now, but Rogers is starting to mow down Morgan’s lead before halfway. And Dean is also making a late charge, he is turning in the fastest lap times on the track.

8:17

Lap 113: Two good battles shapping up here that may burst before halfway. Heavner has ridden in the tire tracks of Boswell for the last 50 laps but is starting to duck low entering the corner to see if he can get a run going. Behind them, Presnell has caught Gechak.

8:16

Lap 111: Young may be safe to stay on the lead lap here, he’s pushed a decent gap in front of himself and Morgan in the last few laps.

8:15

Lap 110: Rohrbaugh goes a lap in the rears.

8:15

8:15

Lap 107: Ever so silently, Gus Dean is beginning to close on Rogers for second.

8:14

Lap 105: Hopkins loses the lead lap. Rohrbaugh is only about half a straight from being lapped and Young is not much further ahead.

8:14

Lap 103: Leader Morgan will catch Hopkins and Rohrbaugh to lap them within the next four laps or so.

8:13

Lap 100: Twenty-five laps to halfway. The back half of the field, from 6th place Gerchak to 10th place Hopkins, is pretty tight but no one has yet to make any real moves for position.

8:12

Lap 97: There are bonus points for leading at halfway, so the two points contenders are both beginning to push their cars even harder to try to keep their rival from taking the extra credit.

8:11

Lap 92: Morgan has opened his lead on Rogers to 1.81 seconds. Rogers continues to experiment with the second and third groove but has found nothing yet in the tank for Morgan.

8:10

Lap 85: Morgan leads Rogers, Dean, Boswell, Heavner, Gerchak, Presnell, Young, Rohrbaugh and Hopkins.

8:08

Lap 82: Rogers now working the second groove to see if his car works any better up there. He was second in the closing laps of Kenly last week and appeared to have nothing for Caleb Holman with thirty to go until he started experimenting and found something up top.

8:07

Comment From Cheryl JP wants to win because “baby needs new shoes.”

8:06

Lap 79: Morgan leads Rogers by five carlengths.

8:06

Lap 75: Now Dean muscles under and by Boswell for third. Heavner completes his pass of Gerchak right behind those two.

8:05

Lap 75: Morgan leads Rogers, Boswell, Dean, Gerchak, Heavner, Presnell, Young, Rohrbaugh, and Hopkins.

8:05

Lap 73: Dean clears Gerchak for fourth while Heavner now looks under Gerchak for fifth.

8:05

Lap 71: Boswell hanging really tough on the outside line. Gerchak slides up the track trying to get a run and that allows Dean to make it three wide.

8:04

Lap 70: Now Morgan has cleared Rogers and leads by two carlengths. Gerchak and Boswell still side by side for third.

8:04

Lap 69 – LEAD CHANGE – Morgan hangs tough on the outside line and will nip Rogers at the stripe.

8:04

Caution Laps: 63-68RESTART: Rogers and Morgan door to door through the first set of turns.

8:03

RUNNING ORDER under caution:1 Clay Rogers
2 J.P. Morgan
3 Eric Gerchak
4 Brady Boswell
5 Gus Dean

6 Codie Rohrbaugh
7 Ryan Heavner
8 Tyler Young
9 Dylan Presnell
10 Dalton Hopkins

All 10 cars on the lead lap. Rogers chooses the inside line for the restart.

8:02

Young is reporting a vibration on his #02 and that is the cause of his visit to his crew. Dylan Presnell has also elected to pit.

8:02

8:02

Dalton Hopkins will get the free pass while Tyler Young is pulling up to pit.

8:00

CAUTION #1 – Lap 63: Debris on the track.

8:00

Lap 62: Morgan gives Rogers a little shove in 3 & 4 to let him know he’s there.

7:59

Lap 60: The leaders will catch that train of three cars in just a minute and that will probably change the complexion of this lead battle.

7:58

Lap 57: Morgan wants the lead as he knows he needs the bonus points.

7:58

Lap 52: Morgan has just about caught Rogers. Rogers’ car seems to be pushing just a bit more in corner middle though he seems to be getting out of the corners slightly better than Morgan at this point.

7:57

Lap 51: Rohrbaugh, Heavner, and Presnell now nose to tail for 7th through 9th. They are only half a straightaway ahead of the leaders.

7:56

Lap 50: Morgan clears Hopkins a little quicker than it took Rogers and the lead is now at seven-tenths of a second.

7:56

Lap 48: Hopkins goes one lap down as Rogers scoots around him on the outside.

7:55

Lap 44: Rogers leads Morgan by 1.27 seconds. Gerchak, Boswell, and Young remain third through fifth. Then it’s Dean, Rohrbaugh, Heavner, Presnell, and Hopkins. Hopkins will be lapped in about five laps at the current pace.

7:53

Lap 39: J.P. Morgan moves into the runner up spot, 1.68 seconds behind leader Rogers.

7:53

Lap 37: Morgan now draws alongside Gerchak for second.

7:53

Lap 35: Morgan continues to hound Gerchak but has yet to pull out. Young is also showing patience as he has caught Boswell for fourth.

7:51

Lap 30: Starting to get a bit dicy in the back as Rohrbaugh, Heavner, Presnell, and Hopkins are watching the leader closing in to lap them.

7:50

Lap 28: Morgan has not yet made a move on Gerchak as he looks for second. Rogers remains a second ahead of that duo.

7:50

Lap 27: Heavner by Presnell for 8th.

7:49

Lap 24: J.P. Morgan is glued now to Gerchak’s back bumper. He’s been running the fastest times the last five laps, about a half-tenth faster than Rogers consistently.

7:49

Lap 22: Rogers is now over 100 career laps led at Anderson.

7:48

Lap 21: Gerchak lost about five carlengths to Rogers that lap and now has Morgan filling up his rear view mirror for second.

7:47

Lap 20 – RUNNING ORDER:1) Clay Rogers
2) Eric Gerchak
3) J.P. Morgan
4) Brady Boswell
5) Tyler Young

6) Gus Dean
7) Codie Rohrbaugh
8) Dylan Presnell
9) Ryan Heavner
10) Dalton Hopkins

7:47

Lap 16: Young is up to fifth after starting tenth.

7:46

Lap 14: Young pulls alongside Dean into 1 & 2 and draws even for fifth.

7:46

Lap 12: Young has completed the pass of Rohrbaugh for sixth and is already putting pressure on Dean for fifth.

7:45

Lap 11: Rogers starting to gap Gerchak further as his lead is up to four carlengths. Morgan and Boswell remain in close quarters about half a straightaway back of Rogers.

7:45

Coming to the green (Speed51.com Photo)

7:45

Lap 9: Dean has settled into fifth while behind him Young dives under Rohrbaugh for sixth.

7:44

Lap 7: Rogers has put two carlengths on he and Gerchak as Morgan is by Boswell for third.

7:43

Lap 4: Still door to door for third as Young is already up to 7th from shotgun.

7:43

Lap 2: Now Rogers will clear Gerchak down the backstretch. It’s Boswell eking ahead of Morgan in third from the outside line.

7:43

Lap 1: Rogers led that first lap by a nose but Gerchak is still hanging tough.

7:42

GREEN FLAG: Rogers and Gerchak nice and even into Turn One and remain door to door out of Turn Two.

7:42

One to go to green.

7:37

Official Starting Lineup:

1 16 Clay Rogers
2 02 Tyler Young

After tonight’s race there will be two races remaining in the X-1R Pro Cup Series schedule:October 19th – Hickory Motor Speedway – Hickory, NC
November 2nd –  Southern National Motorsport Park – Kenly, NC

We encourage you to make plans to attend both events if at all possible. There is definitely some building excitement for the race on the 19th as it will include twin features for the Madhouse Modifieds. Most of Bowman Gray’s stars – Burt Myers, Tim Brown, and Jason Myers included – have entered this event.

6:01

The local divisions – Front Wheel Drives and Legends – will now qualify before we start the features in an hour.

Teams have been asked to clear pit road and J.P. Morgan is about to kick off qualifying.

5:35

An interesting stat that occurred last weekend that we just caught today while looking up some other things. Clay Rogers won in this series for the first time last Saturday at Southern National Motorsport Park. In 35 career X-1R Pro Cup Series races, Rogers has now won at 20 tracks. That broke a tie with Bobby Gill (46 wins at 19 tracks) for most # of tracks won at in this series. Rogers, like everyone else in this field except for J.P. Morgan, has never won here.

5:31

Caleb Holman has the track record here at Anderson Motor Speedway for qualifying, having turning in a 15.850 just two months ago. Tyler Young won the pole for the other series race here, back in March of 2012.

Second practice has come to a close. Tyer Young was fastest with a 16.645. One driver who told us he was extremely happy with his car was Brady Boswell. Boswell finished 4th in the first outing here but the team felt like they still had plenty of room to improve. They brought a different set up here for today’s race that they believe has made the car much more snug in race trim. Boswell enters the race just 23 points behind Eric Gerchak in the ROTY battle.
