There are both Front Wheel Drive and Rear Wheel Drive Four-Cylinders here today and with so many of those on the grounds, it has been decided that those have also been split up into two groups as well!

The FWD 4CYL’s are Qualifying now and will be followed by the RWD 4CYL’s who will Qualify amongst themselves…. THEN the V-8’s portion of the COTW will begin Qualifying.

5:57
As we mentioned earlier, the Scoring Tower is in the Infield here at Kalamazoo Speedway as we (Speed51.com) are in the comforts of the Suite located next to the Announcers Booth on the grandstands side.

We are working on getting those Final Practice Speeds as with Four-Cylinders Qualifying already started, our “runner” (Brandon Thomas) got stuck in the infield. As soon as Four-Cylinders Qualifying is over, the track will pause the action to allow crews and fans to cross the track.

5:53
Today’s Speed51.com Trackside Now coverage from Kalamazoo Speedway is presented by Racing Electronics.

The Four-Cylinders have been separated from the rest of the pack and they are now Qualifying. We’ll stay with Trackside Now Coverage of everyone else here for the rest of the Afternoon and into the Evening while still providing limited coverage of what is now the Four-Cylinders portion of the Call of the Wild.
5:44
In addition, it was also announced that because there are so many cars here today, instead of the top 8 overall in Qualifying being locked into the World Record Qualifying Hour, the top 8 from the Overall Practice Results will automatically be locked into the “A” Feature and only those 8 fastest cars will be allowed to participate in the World Record Qualifying Hour at 8:00p.m.
5:42
With so many Four-Cylinders here today, the track has decided to separate those cars and give them their own “Call of the Wild” Feature amongst themselves. So they are going to Qualify first here in just a few minutes and then the rest of the “V-8’s” will Qualify and be placed in their groups according to their Qualifying times.

As we mentioned earlier this afternoon, there’s simply no other way to explain what is here other than to say that there is EVERYTHING from an Outlaw Super Late Model right down to a Four-Cylinder Mini Stock with the majority of the cars carrying a side board, a wing, no roof, wide tires, and the list goes on and on.

“Technically” only 1 division racing here today, but they will be broken up in groups of 20 to form Divisions A, B, C, D, E, and if we get over 100 cars, an “F” division if needed. Unofficially there are 98 machines on the grounds as they have spilled over into the pit area located outside of turns 1-2 as the infield pits are full.

A reminder there is only ONE (1) division here today so everyone and everything that is on the grounds are all considered the same division and are Practicing together. They will be broken up into “divisions” at the end of Regular Qualifying.

The man everyone is watching tonight to see if he can break into the 9-Second barrier, Andy Bozell. (Speed51.com Photo)
3:41
So in conclusion, Bozell’s creation for this event went a 1/4 second QUICKER than a full blown Winged Sprint Car.
3:41
By comparison, the Winged Sprint Car Track Record here at Kalamazoo Speedway is a 10.270 set by Sprint Cars standout, Jason Blonde back on July 17th, 2010.
3:39
The Call of the Wild Track Record (The WORLD Record on a 3/8s mile paved oval) was set in last years version of the “COTW” by 12-Time Outlaw Super Late Models Track Champion, Andy Bozell who went a blistering 10.020, average speed = 134.730mph.
3:38
Generally a “regular” Outlaw Super Late Model will time in around the low 12 second bracket while a Template Super Late Models will stop the clocks at around the mid 12 second range.

Comment From Jesse

What is considered a quick lap for an outlaw super late model and a super late model? Not Call of the wild times..
