Chase Oliver has brought the caution flag out with just a few minutes left in practice. He spun the #5 car backwards off turn two and backed into the outside fence all by himself. He drove away and back to the pit area.

Chase Oliver has spun on the backstretch, but does not make contact.

Hunter Robbins is here today, not driving, but working with GARC Motorsports. The team is also helping Clint Folsom’s group has they try to diagnose a motor issue. Robbins tells us that they may have a cracked head. Smoke was seen coming from the exhaust tip.

Comment From Steve

I was told on Casey Smith that they weren’t able to get the motor in time.

5:22
Folsom is from Alabama and a former short track regular here in the Deep South. He owned cars in NASCAR’s top levels for such drivers as Clifford Allison, the late Stan Fox, Dave Mader, Stanley Smith and Steve Kinser. His car is painted in a throwback paint scheme to the one that Dave Mader won the Snowball Derby with in 1978.

Comment From bgf2

what can you tell us about 11 Clint Folsom?

5:22
Bubba Pollard’s team is done with practice. Bubba is happy with his car, and joking with crew members as others scramble. Watch out for the 18 car.

Not for this event, surprisingly enough, as he is a regular here and at Mobile.

This is not a CRA-sanctioned event, but many of tonight’s competitors such as Bubba Pollard, Kenzie Ruston, Johanna Long, Jeff Fultz and Chase Elliott have competed in several CRA events this season and in years past.

Comment From porkchop

are these the cra cars?

4:32
We’re about five minutes away from the start of practice. Practice will be cut short by 15 minutes, so we will go from 4:30 until 5:45pm local time.
4:32
VanderLey welcomes a new sponsor on board his racer today, Tropical Smoothie Cafe’ and Every One Now.
4:31
Reaid is competing here tonight with former ASA National Tour Champion and Camping World Truck Series regular Joey Clanton calling the shots from the pit box. Reaid’s dad Tony is a former dirt racer and has known the Clanton family for years racing on the dirt tracks of Georgia against one another.
4:29
Not technically. TJ Reaid, of Acworth, Georgia, mutually parted ways with the Kyle Busch Motorsports team in recent weeks. We caught up with TJ today and he confirmed that he will be competing in the final two Blizzard Series races here at Five Flags, as well as the 44th Annual Snowball Derby in December, with his family’s #41 machine.

The KBM Late Model program is now a place for Kyle to have some fun when he can, as many of the Late Model crew have been moved into a role with the KBM truck team, specifically with the second team started for driver Josh Richards.

Comment From slm

did TJ lose his KBM ride?

The rain has stopped here at Five Flags and track drying efforts have been underway for some time now.
3:40
Just as the drivers meeting began, another rain shower hit FFS. The meeting is going on under the cover of the tech area. Tim Bryant has said the schedule tonight may need to be adjusted depending on the weather.
3:26
The rain shower has ended here at Five Flags and the sun is now out. Tim Bryant has announced to teams that the driver’s meeting will commence in about 10 minutes. We’re headed down to check on things down trackside and we’ll have some notes from the meeting shortly.

3:05
It appears that Blizzard Series point leader Augie Grill brought the rain in with him, as the shower began as his #112 rig pulled onto the grounds here at Five Flags.

Skies are beginning to brighten overhead, so this shower should be winding up shortly.

2:49
We’re going to take a few minutes to continue to set up radio equipment for tonight’s broadcast during this shower. We’ll be back in a bit.
2:48
We’ve just gotten our first few raindrops here at the track. The good news is that there is sunshine on the horizon, so hopefully this comes in and out quickly.

Of the drivers you listed, the only one we can confirm to be planning to compete in this year’s Snowball Derby is Jeff Choquette. 51 caught up with him last week at Iowa Speedway, where he won the ASA Midwest Tour race, and he said he and the Adrian Carriers #29 team have plans to compete in the 44th Annual Snowball Derby this December.

Comment From Guest

any word on wayne anderson, tim russell or jeff choquette in the derby?

2:35
Today’s forecast is for rather scorching temperatures. Forecasted highs are in the upper 90’s, with the radio station broadcasting on the track’s PA system currently indicating the heat index putting temperatures from 108-110 degrees. There’s a 30% chance of storms, but there is a chance for a storm all the time during the summer here on the Gulf Coast. If we get anything, it shouldn’t be enough to really hamper today’s races.
2:33
We can add the following cars to the driver roster posted a few minutes ago:
11 Clint Folsom
84 Clay Alexander
2:28
We at Speed51.com and many of the competitors here at Five Flags are thinking of Ms. Ginny Bryant, matriarch of the Bryant family here that owns and operates this facility. Ms. Bryant suffered a heart attack last night and is currently in the ICU at a nearby hospital. She had a near full-blockage in her artery and has surprised doctors with how well she is doing now. Doctors are hoping for a recovery and she apologized to her son Tim in the hospital last night for being a nuisance so close to race day.

We have our thoughts and prayers with Ms. Bryant for a quick recovery and hope to see her back at the track again soon.

2:09
Cars we currently see on the premises…we expect a bunch more to keep trickling in through the afternoon, including notorious late-comer Augie Grill.
