10:23

The 20-lap bomber race is on the track for their race.  They just had a car spin out on the start, so they haven’t officially started their race, even though the green came out.  Mike Goraum and Tony Boyd are on the front row.

10:20

While the race to the checkered flag is over, there is still a matter of tech.  We will let you know when tech clears.

10:16

For those that missed the radio coverage or the last 10 laps on the radio, the show is being archved and will be heard in replay on www.racetalkradio.com in the coming days.

10:15

Speed51.com doesn’t own a car.  Bob Dillner, who owns Speed51.com, also owns a race team (BDI Racing).  That team is not under the same umbrella of Speed51.com.That being said, I am not sure when they will be back, but I am sure they will let everyone know in the future, and I would assume that car will be at the Snowball Derby.

10:15

Comment From Guest when is the Speed 51 car going to be back at 5 flags?

10:13

Comment From LeadSeventeen aaahhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaa so thew full moon plays into the hand by way of lost feed. Bummer, but thanks for all you do. We at home appreciate ya!

10:09

We will have the full unofficial results soon.

10:08

Chase Elliott was second, followed by Casey Smith, Bubba Pollard and Mike Garvey.

10:08

CHECKERED FLAG: Augie Grill has won the USA Digital 100 Blizzard Series race at Five Flags Speedway.

10:08

One lap to go for Augie Grill.

10:07

Two laps to go.

10:07

The field is single file, except back around the back end of the top 10, where some drivers are scrambling hard for position.

10:07

Five laps remain.  This is Augie Grill’s race to lose.

10:06

Augie Grill still leads the field with Chase Elliott Second.  Casey Smith is trying to charge up on the leaders.

10:05

GREEN FLAG LAP 91

10:05

We are one lap to go green.

10:03

Top 10: Augie Grill, Chase Elliott, Casey Smith, Bubba Pollard, Mike Garvey, Johanna Long, David Rogers, John Bolen, Josh Hamner, Paul Kelley

10:00

YELLOW FLAG LAP 91: Donnie Wilson went around on the front stretch with help from Mike Garvey.

9:59

Casey Smith now has third with 10 laps to go.  Augie Grill still leads Chase Elliott.

9:57

Bubba Pollard and Casey Smith are side by side for position on the track.

9:56

Wayne Niedecken, Jr has drive his car to the pits and out of the race.

9:56

80 laps are complete.  Augie Grill appears to be on cruise control with Chase Elliott in second.  Bubba Pollard is third, followed by Casey Smith and Donnie Wilson.

9:55

John Bolen and Josh Hamner have been battling hard for the ninth and 10th positions.  That is about the only battle on the track at the moment in the top 10.

9:54

Ryan Lawler has pulled his car into the pits.

9:54

Casey Smith is now fourth as Donnie Wilson has lost two positions in the last two laps.

9:53

Bubba Pollard has worked his way under and by Donnie Wilson for the third spot at lap 72.

9:52

Augie Grill has driven out to a healthy lead over Chase Elliott, who has a decent lead over Donnie Wilson in third.  Bubba Pollard and Casey Smith have moved in a bit on Wilson for position.

9:51

There was just about a wreck on the front stretch.  We are not sure what happened, but it looked like Eddie Mercer and Jeff Fultz were slow coming down the straight.  Both are still going forward and we are still green.

9:50

The top five at lap 60: Augie Grill, Chase Elliott, Donnie Wilson, Bubba Pollard, Casey Smith

9:49

Casey Smith is now in the fifth position behind Bubba Pollard.

9:48

Augie Grill worked under Chase Elliott and now leads at lap 54.

9:47

Chase Elliott and Augie Grill got a big jump on Donnie Wilson on the restart.

9:47

GREEN FLAG LAP 51

9:45

There are 14 cars on the lead lap.

9:45

Eddie Mercer will now line up last car on the lead lap, right behind Paul Kelley.

9:44

The cars are rolling around the track with two laps until green.

9:44

Augie Grill said his car is a bit loose off, which is a bad thing for the competition, because when he is like that, he usually runs excellent here.

9:43

Donnie Wilson is a little loose.  His crew made some adjustments so he can catch the two GARC cars up front.

9:43

Paul Kelley is being put at the end of the field.

9:42

Paul Kelley was held on pit road to check his tires to make sure he only changed the tires he should have.

9:41

There is under one minute left for the drivers to be off pit road and back on the track.  If they aren’t, they lose their spot on the restart.

9:41

During the racing action, we have had folks write in to voice their opinion on the new procedures here.  While we appreciate your comments, we feel the racing action is a bit more important to put up.  Please feel free to post your opinions on the Facebook page for Speed51.com.

9:39

Paul Kelley did a no no.  All drivers were supposed to stop on the front stretch as they were told in the driver’s meeting.  He drove to his pits, which is in the back pits.  We are not sure what the officials are going to do.

9:36

The cars are now going down pit road for their five minute break to change the two right side tires and put on fresh sticker tires.

9:35

Top five at the break in the action: Chase Elliott, Augie Grill, Donnie Wilson, Mike Garvey, Bubba Pollard

9:35

Eddie Mercer just went a lap down the leaders right before the yellow, but he will get the free pass.

9:34

CAUTION LAP 51: This is the competition caution.

9:33

Jeff Fultz has just went a lap down to the leaders as Augie Grill is now right behind Chase Elliott on lap 49.

9:32

Augie Grill is closing in on Chase Elliott a bit, but lapped traffic is also a factor.

9:31

At lap 40, Chase Elliott leads Augie Grill, Donnie Wilson, Mike Garvey and Bubba Pollard.  Johanna Long is sixth, followed by David Rogers, Casey Smith, Paul Kelley and Josh Hamner.

9:30

Jeremy Rice has dropped off the pace and out of the race.

9:29

Don’t forget to listen live on www.racetalkradio.com.

9:28

Augie Grill has worked his way under and by Donnie Wilson, taking the second spot at lap 33.  Chase Elliott still leads.

9:27

Chase Elliott is now in the lead at lap 28 as he was able to work his way by Donnie Wilson.

9:26

Bubba Pollard, David Rogers, Casey Smith, Paul Kelley and Josh Hamner run sixth through 10th.

9:25

Augie Grill has moved under Mike Garvey, moving himself into the third position at lap 23.

9:25

At lap 20, Chase Elliott is near the bumper of Donnie Wilson for the lead as Augie Grill is on the back bumper of Mike Garvey for third.  Johanna Long is fifth.

9:23

Chase Elliott has closed the gap a bit on Donnie Wilson for the lead.  Mike Garvey runs third, but Augie Grill is coming up quick.

9:22

Augie Grill has just made a move under Johanna Long, taking the fourth position at lap 12.

9:21

Ron McDonald has been lapped at lap 10 as he is slow around the track.

9:21

Augie Grill has just worked his way into the top five, getting around David Rogers.

9:20

Chase Elliott now is second at lap six with Mike Garvey third.

9:20

Chase Elliott has worked his way under Mike Garvey as the two have run the last two laps side by side.

9:19

Donnie Wilson still leads the field after the green flag as the field is all nose to tail.

9:18

GREEN FLAG LAP 1

9:18

Yellow flag laps do not count, so we will be restarting with one lap complete in one lap.

9:17

Top five: Donnie Wilson, Mike Garvey, Chase Elliott, Johanna Long, David Rogers

9:16

Allen Karnes is also in the pits.  He looks like he is done for the night.

9:15

The front of Dave Mader III’s car is pretty crumpled up as he has driven his car behind the wall.

9:14

YELLOW FLAG LAP 1
A few cars spun in turn four towards the back of the pack, including Jeremy Rice, Chris Davidson and Dave Mader III.

9:13

Donnie Wilson got the jump on the field and leads lap one.

9:12

GREEN FLAG

9:12

One lap to green.

9:12

This was for multiple issues, including radios not working as well as track cleanup.  Fireworks were over turns three and four, and debris hit the track as well as the grills of cars.

9:12

Comment From Rhoda This is bologna. Get the race started. If a driver has issues they should go to the pits. Oh I’m sorry certain drivers get extra time when they have an issue, some don’t

9:12

Comment From Ghost of Butch Lindley They stopped to let the officials fix Long’s radio? Boy talk about favoritism

9:10

The cars are now circulating a bit faster to put heat in the tires, prior to the start of the race.

9:09

The pace car is at 35 MPH, which is pit road speed, according to the officials.

9:09

The drivers are now on their wave lap.

9:08

Everything appears to be working ok now for Long and Hamner.

9:07

The engines have been re-fired and the cars are rolling.

9:07

The engines are back off on the cars as we await all the issues to be cleared up.

9:06

An official was also checking all the grills on the cars to make sure no fireworks debris was on the front of the cars.  Also, they are checking the track in turns three and four to clean up anything left over there.

9:05

It looks like it is a helmet issue with Hamner as they are in his car, trying to fix it.

9:05

Josh Hamner might have also have a radio issue.

9:04

Johanna Long already has a problem.  It appears someone has a radio keyed.  The field has stopped on the front stretch, allowing the officials to get her attention to switch to channel two.

The prayer has been said, the National Anthem has been sung and the engines are fired on the Sportsman cars.  We are set to race here at Five Flags Speedway tonight.

7:59

The first feature of the night will be the 25 lap Sportsman race.  There are 12 cars here for that race with Bubba Winslow and Steve Buttrick on the front row.

7:58

Pre-race activities are on the track currently.

7:56

This morning, Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video was on TV, which could have been a premonition for tonight’s racing action.  The moon officially is full tomorrow night, and if you believe in outside forces having an effect on the race track, we are in for a wild night of racing action.

6:51

Augie Grill has a band-aid on the inner side of a roll bar inside of his car.  He said it is there to help stop the bleeding.  His 2010 season hasn’t quite went the way he would have liked so far.

6:48

6:48

And, as a reminder, the at-the-track radio broadcast of tonight’s race will go live at 8pm Central / 9pm Eastern, on www.racetalkradio.com.  We will continue Trackside Now updates during the radio coverage, giving you two options to follow along.

6:47

Qualifying will start in about 15 minutes.  You will be able to follow along with “live qualifying” updates as it happens, right here on 51’s Trackside Now.

6:45

6:36

We are back from our short break.  We are getting ready for qualifying, which originally was scheduled for 6:45pm.  We were told in the driver’s meeting they are going to try and move that close to 7pm due to the heat of the day.

5:44

Earlier today, Jason Stix Buckley and Elgin “Stat Boy” Traylor took in some sights in the Pensacola area near the beach.  Along with walking up all 177 steps of the Pensacola Lighthouse, both spent time touring the National Museum of Naval Aviation.  Within the museum, one of the historians working at the facility spent a few minutes talking about the history of some of the items in there, but he also spent a few minutes talking about Speed51.com.  He was apparently a huge fan of the website and follows along quite often.

5:42

The driver’s meeting that some thought would be eventful with the new competition caution coming out around the halfway mark of the race for a two-tire change ended up being fairly uneventful.  Other than procedural questions, there were no issues during the meeting.

It was stated that there will be three tires allowed in the pits for the right sides – two sticker tires and a spare tire in case of a flat, which can only be a scuff.

The way this works is that there will be a competition caution around lap 51, instead of the true lap-50 halfway mark, just in case there are any issues that might cause the race not to continue.  At that point, it would be considered an official race.  At the competition caution, all drivers will head down pit road, and once the last car gets stopped in their pits, the teams will have exactly five minutes to perform the tire change for the right side tires and make any normal pit stop adjustments as well as get back off pit road.  All drivers will retain their positions when they go back to green, unless they do not get back on the track before that five minute clock his 0:00, in which case they will restart in the back.

Also, there has to be three consecutive green flag laps before that competition caution, so if there is a yellow flag right before it, they will run three green flag laps, then do the competition caution.  So, it could be lap 54 or more if a yellow interferes.

A driver can also choose to change their two right side tires before the halfway break, but even if they do, they cannot advance their position during the competition yellow.

Speed51.com shot some video footage from the beach as well as talking to Five Flags owner Tim Bryant and racers Johanna Long and Josh Hamner about what they have seen and their thoughts on the oil spill.

1:45

While the racing on the track is what we are here for, unfortunately the news in this area is not about what is happening at Five Flags Speedway.  Down the road just a bit on Pensacola Beach, oil has washed ashore over the last few days from the major BP oil drilling disaster in the gulf.Thursday, on practice day here at the track, we headed down to the beach to see what it looks like.  Unfortunately, what the country has seen on the news, is exactly what we saw here.  The beautiful white Pensacola sand is covered now with oil particles.
