Comment From gunnar

good luck #20

10:18

Another note from the drivers meeting is appearance of more words between Casey Smtih and Augie Grill, an arguement that began in February at the South Alabama Speedway Rattler 250. Smith asked race director Dan Spence to clarify the rule about stopping on the racetrack with a flat tire (as Grill did in the last Blizzard Series event). Spence clarified for Smith that there is typically no penalty although they typically allow the leader to pass the car in question at least once before throwing the caution. Realizing the event in question, Grill came to his defense by saying it wasn’t his fault he didn’t go a lap down. A comment to which Spence responded by stating that all cars in question stopping on the track will now receive a two-lap penalty regardless. Grill and Smith had nothing more to say.

10:18

Logan Boyett and Jeremy Pate are now pacing the field from the front row as the drivers wave to the crowd on the parade lap.

Comment From KidRoberts

I love the last line. “You can fight, but don’t use your car.”

5:28

Returning to the new ignition rules, Ricky Brooks brought light to the fact that Mobile International Speedway has chosen not to participate and Brooks continued to invite any driver to let the officials at MIS know how they feel about it in tomorrow’s drivers meeting.

5:27

The first half of the Super Late Model qualifying field will roll through tech between 5:30pm and 6:10pm.  The second half of the field will go through between 6:10pm and 6:50pm this evening.

5:26

On a side note, Chase Elliott did suggest that to alleviate any confusion in the future they could consider a standard penalty for stopping on the track of one lap and no eligibilty for the Lucky Dog Award as is typically seen as Gresham Motorsports Park.

5:23

We have just been informed that Josh Hamner is on his way to the track, and will race tonight.

5:20

Notes from Driver’s Meeting:

– As head scorer Jimmy Wiggins called roll each driver was issued a packet of information regarding the new ignition rules that will go into effect on June 22nd.

– As has become the norm here in the Gulf Coast Challenge Series, the driver with the best average finish between tonight’s Blizzard Series event and tomorrow’s Miller Lite event at Mobile International Speedway will receive “bonus bucks.”

– Mobile International Speedway will now open at 9am tomorrow morning to allow drivers and teams time to get signed in and unloaded earlier than usual.

– CV Products will award a $100 gift certificate to the 2nd-place finisher and a $50 gift certificate to the 10th-place finisher.  Penske Racing Shocks will award a $100 gift certificate to the winner and Crane Cams will award a $200 gift certificate to the winner.

– Five Flags Speedway will award a $250 cash prize to the driver who sits on the pole for tonights Rubber & Specialties 100.

– Teams were informed that Mike Sharp of MSD Ignitions will be in attendance this evening should they wish to speak with him at any point.

– As usual, all restarts will be double-filed and the leader will be able to choose his line and lapped cars will drop to the rear.  Should anyone jump the start they will be sent to the rear of the field on the first offense and on the second offense they will receive a one-lap penalty.

– Cautions will NOT count in tonight’s 100-lap Super Late Model feature.

– There will be a Lucky Dog Award in effect tonight, however if the eligible driver is the cause of the caution he will not be awarded.  Also, when the driver receives the lap back he will physically make the lap up on the track and there will be no award given in the final 10 laps of the event.

– Only the top-three cars will be called to tech at the end of the night.

– Head tech director Ricky Brooks informed the drivers that after winning the race, if they felt the need, they could burn their tires until they blew and they would put scuffs on to go over the scales.

– During the event, due to the amount of officials working here at Five Flags Speedway, cars may only pit on the front straightaway pit road.  If any car chooses to pit on the back pit road then they will be done for the night.

– Should a team change a tire during the race it must be on the rim.  If not, there will be a five-lap penalty issued.

– In regards to the excitement in the last Blizzard Series event here, teams were reminded that if they are to get into a heated situation they are not to use their cars as weapons as they will be done for the night as well as the year and possibly further.
