Please do not ask where your favorite driver is running or for field rundowns. We will update the field just as quickly as we can when the opportunity presents itself. Our first priority is reporting the action that is taken on. We are getting dozens and dozens of questions asking where a certain driver is running and we cannot answer them all. The questions also slow down our speed and contribute to a lag.
8:37

He’s also worked with Travis Kittleson and in the NASCAR Nationwide Series shop of Morgan Shephard.
4:19

4:04
Wayne Smith is the current Maritimes Pro Stock Tour point leader with one race to go, but he is taking time out of his championship battle to come to the open show of the Auto Value 250 here at Speedway 660. Smith has a second car at his disposal in case he wrecks he today. As far as his car today, Smith claims that it isn’t as fast as he would like but that it is comfortable. He also knows that as long as his Port City machine is on the lead lap near the end of the event, he will have a shot at a good finish.

United States racing fans might remember Shawn Tucker from a few decades back. The Canadian used to two regularly down to Speedway 95 near Bangor, Maine to race on Saturday nights from 1989 through 1993. Tucker would also race on Sundays at Unity Raceway if he made it through the weekend without major damage to his Pro Stock. The tow to Speedway 95 was nearly four hours…the tow back from Unity was another hour on top of that.
3:55
Brady Creamer has had a few problems today during the qualifying events of the Auto Value 250, but it is still a big racing weekend for the young driver. Creamer started racing karts at the age of five and then moved into Legends cars. He ran a few Sportsman events and is now in his third race behind the wheel of a Pro Stock. The 18-year-old “loves” racing this type of car. The Pro Stocks are new to his family as well. Brady’s father Garth raced Sportsman cars in his own driving career, but never advanced into this type of racecar.
3:53
That was former Auto Value 250 competitor Travis Kittleson checking in….we’d love to see Kittleson back here in a racecar. In the meantime, if you are down in Florida and shopping for a car this holiday weekend be sure to visit him and the gang at Bob Steele Chevrolet. We’ve heard that they even sold the first new Chevy Sonic just a day or two after it appeared on their lot this week!

One of the consi races for the Pro Stocks/Super Late Models is now rolling onto the track. Paul Gahan will lead the field to green with four entries qualifying into the big show today.
2:51
Travis Benjamin has a little added incentive to win today. His father Ron Benjamin, a longtime racer himself, has a birthday tomorrow and would like nothing more than a new trophy for the family race team’s collection.
2:51
Shawn Tucker also told us that he expects a very competitive race here this year. “There are a lot of cars here that are really close today,” Tucker told Speed51.com
2:50
Shawn Tucker is currently running second in the Maritimes Pro Stock Tour point standings, but even though he only has one car at his disposal, he is also racing in today’s open show – the Auto Value 250. Tucker will finish out the 2011 Tour season next week at Scotia Speedworld. He does have a second chassis at home that has yet to be built into a running racecar. Tucker plans to assemble that as a winter project.
2:47
Brent Wiggins owns a pair of cars entered in today’s race. Jimmy Spencer is driving his #15 and Brent’s son Colter Wiggins is in the #17 Pro Stock/SLM.
2:45
The #08 Bando driven by Cole Tanner is painted up as a tribute to the late, great Scott Fraser – one of the most accomplished Maritimes racers of recent decades. Fraser lost his life in a snowmobile accident several years ago.
2:42
Jay Cushman has won this race as the car owner for Scott Chubbuck, but his race team is currently idle. His former trailer is here though – complete with “Cushman Competition” decals still on the side. The #12 team of Michael Kyle now uses the hauler.
2:41
The #2 car of Matt Matheson is a former Andy Shaw car.
2:40
Johnny Benson is another well-known driver who has raced in the Auto Value 250 here at Speedway 660 previously.
2:40
Florida driver Travis Kittleson has raced in the Auto Value 250 before and would love to be back here for this year’s event. He spoke with Lonnie Sommerville about driving one of the cars out of his stable, but nothing could be put together in time for Kittleson to race here today. We hear that Kittleson is already working on plans to come to next season’s event though…and we say hello to the former Florida Speedweeks Super Late Model champion if he is following along with today’s Trackside Now coverage.
2:38
Dave O’Blenis’ daughters are competing in the bando class here at Speedway 660 this weekend.

2:37
We don’t know if we will get much of a chance to post photos here today in Trackside Now, but we have taken dozens and dozens of shots that we will post into a photo gallery at our Speed51.com Facebook Feed page later this week.
2:33
Former Auto Value 250 winner Scott Chubbuck has not entered this year’s event. We were thinking that his #77 Hight Motorsports team might tow up for this big money event from their home base in Maine, but that did not happen.
2:32
Johnny Clark did not spend much time trying to be quick in practice today. He was working on setting up his #54 for long runs. The defending race winner told Speed51.com that he wants a straightaway lead with 10 laps to go in tonight’s race…and he thinks that he has a car under him that can do just that. There are 28 other drivers in the pits though who might not agree with him at this point.
2:30
Defending PASS Modified champion Andy Shaw is here at the track today helping out the #2 team of Matt Matheson. Shaw is also wearing a Kevin Roberge crew shirt, so we think he might be helping that team out as well. We’d ask Andy ourselves, but he is a very busy man this afternoon!
2:29
The car that Steve Halpin is racing here today is a former Dave O’Blenis machine.
2:27

Teams are currently staged in the pit area here at Speedway 660 for the Pro Stock/Super Late Model heat races.
2:02
Mike Stevens has reported to us that the team is chasing a skip in their engine. He did tell us though that the car is driving very good.
2:01
The #2 team of Matt Matheson is working with the rear axles of their car in the moments leading up to the start of heat races. The left side axle was out of the car as the team worked hard to get it in race-ready condition.
2:00
The sun has come out over Speedway 660 and the temps and humidity has risen. Rain is not currently a threat to the racing program today.
2:00
Derek Christie was honest with us when we asked him how his car was running in practice this morning. “So, So,” was he reply. Christie did tell us that his car was very comfortable though. Like many of the other drivers who we spoke to, Christie expects that the race pace today might be a little slower than in years past, so being comfortable over long runs in the race could be key.
1:41
We are about 20 minutes away from the start of the heat races, so that allows for the time to take another tour through the pit area. We’ll be back at the keyboard shortly.

Kevin Roberge went for a second harmless spin during practice this morning – in the time since we last updated you to the practice incidents. The final practice session when clean and green. So far, no cars have any body damage from on track incidents today. We expect that to change after heat races are held though.
1:28
Jimmy Spencer did have a little bit of good hearted ribbing with the head technical inspector here at Speedway 660. Spencer asked if he was the race’s starter and when the answer came back as “no”, Spencer joked that he wasn’t anything here. “We’ll see about that after the race,” came the reply.
1:28
Shawn Turple is not racing here today, but he is at the track helping out the #99 team of Craig Slaunwhite.
1:27
Jimmy Spencer was acting larger than life in the recent driver’s meeting here. The former NASCAR Cup driver, and current SPEED television personality, grabbed a lawn chair and brought it to the center of the technical inspection area while other drivers stood around. Spencer held court by telling stories and smoking a big cigar right up to when the meeting started.
1:26
Ben Rowe is a little bit frustrated this morning. He claims that his team “has a lot of work left to do” in fine-tuning their #8 car. But with heat races still left on the docket and a car that placed in the top 10 during the final practice session, we expect Rowe to be in good shape come feature-time tonight. The day is going better than last year’s race day here for Rowe though. In 2010, his team had to change engines on race morning after a problem was discovered.
1:24
Our second member of the Speed51.com crew today is longtime Canadian photographer Ken MacIsaac – who has been guiding us through the pit area to introduce us around and find a few scoops. We thank Ken a lot for his help!
1:23
Also not here today is one of the contenders from last year’s Auto Value 250, Jonathan Hicken. We spoke to his father David in the pit area and he told us that the team had heavy damage to their car from last week’s wreck in a Maritimes Pro Stock Tour event. The steering rack was bent among other items, so they skipped this race. Mr. Hicken reports that Jonathan is “wandering around the pits today like a lost kid”. The other Hicken son, Andrew, is working on John Flemming’s #97F today. Andrew has helped out many SLM teams in recent years including the Jeff Fultz #67 operation with Fultz and Daniel Hemric driving. In fact, Hicken was with the team as a crew member when they won the Winchester 400 a few years ago.
1:21
One driver who is not here today, but was expected to make the trip to Speedway 660, is Gary Smith. The PASS North regular won his first career Tour race earlier this season at Lee USA Speedway (NH) and hails from the Bangor, Maine area – about 3 1/2 hours away. He would have been one of the favorites for today’s race.
1:19
There are 29 Pro Stocks (Super Late Models) signed into the pit area today.
1:19
Heat races here at Speedway 660 are scheduled to start in about 40 minutes – at 2pm local time.
1:19
In the final Pro Stock practice session today, Travis Benjamin posted the quickest time ahead of Dave O’Blenis, Lonnie Sommerville, Johnny Clark, Craig Slaunwhite, Kirk Thibeau, Ben Rowe, Leonard Boutillier, Jimmy Spencer and Kevin Moore.
1:17
In the second to last practice this morning, Jimmy Spencer topped the speed charts over Chris Duncan, Travis Benjamin, Johnny Clark and Craig Slaunwhite.
1:16
After walking through the pit area and watching practice, we’ve come back with a notebook full of information and a memory card full of photos. Stay tuned as we post it all.
11:45
We are going to take a break to walk through the pit area and gather up some pit notes. We’ll be back in a little while to bring you the latest happenings from Speedway 660.
11:44
The #16 belongs to Quebec driver Kevin Roberge – who might be familiar to American fans thanks to his efforts in the Crate Late Model portion of Florida Speedweeks at New Smyrna Speedway earlier in the 2011 racing season.
11:43
The #16 has spun in turn two to bring out the caution in this practice session. Right now, we don’t have a roster and we haven’t done enough homework on our Canadian teams yet, so we can’t tell you who is driving that entry. We can tell you though that he did not hit anything and practice is back to green right now.

The grandstands are mostly empty early in the morning here at Speedway 660…but they won’t be for long. The Auto Value 250 typically draws close to a sell-out crowd.
11:30
The #15 Pro Stock of Jimmy Spencer has just looped itself down the frontstretch. It was a single car incident and there was no contact. Practice is back to green now.
11:30
Several of the American drivers are currently on the track including Jimmy Spencer, Johnny Clark and Kirk Thibeau.
11:26
The Super Late Models are currently out on the track for one of their practice sessions. We do not have live timing and scoring, so we will not have any practice speeds to share.
11:21
The weather is very pleasant today here at Speedway 660. It is slightly overcast currently, but temps are in the mid 60’s right now and the heat and humidity that has been the case at many tracks throughout the summer is absent. It should be a great day to watch a race here.
11:20
Good morning from the Geary Woods of New Brunswick, where one of Canada’s biggest short track races, the Auto Value 250, is set to take place today at Speedway 660. The race features Super Late Models (also known as Pro Stocks in this part of the world) and features an entry list that includes Johnny Clark, Ben Rowe, Travis Benjamin, Lonnie Sommerville and Jimmy Spencer. Stay tuned for more!
