There is a long line of red taillights leading out of the parking lots as the fans who packed this track today are now heading out of it.
10:25
Not sure, I had my eyes on the eight-foot tall moose.
10:25
Comment From Ontario

not the officials, they did not high five him?

10:24
It looked like Johnny Clark led 207 laps at $50 per lap plus a $1000 bonus for leading at halfway and the normal winner’s purse. Coming up to Canada worked out well for the PASS North point leader this year.
10:23
More fireworks are going off as Johnny Clark pulled into victory lane. As Johnny got out of the car, the Speedway 660 moose high-fived him.
10:22
Johnny Clark has won over Shawn Turple, Shawn Tucker, Greg Proude, Travis Benjamin, Jonathan Hicken, Scott Chubbuck, Craig Slaunwhite, Lonnie Sommerville, Wayne Smith, Kirk Thibeau and Kevin Moore. Those are very unofficial and the only cars that seem to have been on the lead lap at the finish.
10:19
Fireworks are now going off over the track.
10:19
Johnny Clark wins!

9:55
Johnny Clark is back on the track. He gunned his engine while pulling back onto the track. He probably isn’t very happy right now.
9:54
OK – I know that there is a Cup race in Atlanta tonight. I was trying to be humorous in the fact that this event is much more exciting to many short track fans. So please, nobody else needs to write in that there is a Cup race going on, but thank you for pointing it out to me. We’ve had a ton of responses to my comment there.
9:53

9:44
Comment From Guest

Did Sommerville have any thing to do with Smith spinning

9:42
Wayne Smith stayed out and is third. Dave O’Blenis is the only other driver not to pit and he is one lap down.
9:42
Kevin Moore is now leading. I think that Kirk Thibeau is now up to second place as everyone else has pitted.
9:41
Most of the leaders are now pitting.
9:41
Comment From Mike Harnish

good strategy on the leaders part.. stay out and get as many cars down a lap or off the track as possible..

9:40

9:17
Dave O’Blenis is only one lap down by the way.
9:16
Kirk Thibeau is now up to eighth. His car has been a handful today, but he has stayed out of trouble and is being rewarded for that.
9:16
Travis Kittleson will need a wrecker to get off the track.
9:15
His air dam is crushed after an early incident and the car just hasn’t gone well after that.

9:07
Johnny Clark leads again on the restart.
9:07
The leaders have not pitted.
9:07
Without access to timing and scoring and with cars that are lapped and pitting, we probably can’t give you an accurate top 15 at the moment.
9:07
Comment From Mike and Angie

who’s in the top 15

9:06
Most likely. There have been issues that have been out of our control that have kept us from covering PASS North races late this summer, but we have a back-up plan in place for Beech Ridge that should allow us to bring you Trackside Now coverage of the race.
9:06
Comment From DKM in Maine

will you guys be at beech ridge for the 300?

9:04
We expect that some drivers will pit for tires under this caution period when the pits open up.

9:04
We are now at lap 126.
9:03

8:50
We just got a look at Donald Chisholm’s car being towed in. It has heavy front end damage.
8:49
Johnny Benson’s car is now being towed off the track. Donald Chisholm’s bent car will be the next to be hooked. Lots of speedy-dry has been put down, so this will be a length caution.
8:48
Currently, Johnny Clark leads Jonathan Hicken, Dave O’Blenis, Shawn Turple, Travis Bejamin, Craig Slaunwhite, Scott Chubbuck, Shawn Tucker, Kevin Moore and Travis Kittleson.
8:46
It is taking a little bit of time to hook Johnny Benson’s car up to a wrecker. He might be done for the night.
8:46
Johnny Benson, Donald Chisholm, and others are involved.
8:46
The leader at lap 125, the halfway point, will pocket an extra $1000 bonus.

This caution certainly wasn’t caused by Lonnie Sommerville. There was a car parked on the dirt bank.
8:39
Comment From Guest

Lonnie Sommervillelikes to cause a caition before he gets lapped, just ask the 98 car who he took out 2 time in the 250 in halifax

Thanks for the update on Benson … I had wondered before – because he started 22nd, didn’t seem to be getting lapped and you kept talking about Kittleson. I thought he pulled in. 🙂 Barb Benson PS – great coverage all day – keep up the good work

8:29
Darren MacKinnon has gone another lap down.

8:22
We know that everyone is anxious to see how their favorite driver is doing, but we can’t answer all reader questions because there are so many of them. So please be patient and we’ll try to update you on the top runners as often as possible. Sending multiple questions asking where a driver is running every minute in a row won’t help that question get answered and just slows down our system. So thank you for your understanding and patience.
8:20
Very true. It looks like they are done for this 250 though. The team worked very hard today to replace their engine after it blew in practice.

Scott won in 2003

7:51
There is $50 being paid out to the leader of each lap tonight. That bonus money could make for a very good payday if a driver dominates the event.
7:50
The support vehicles are in place and the pace of the warm up laps has picked up. We’ll be going racing very soon.
7:49
Comment From RacingTrader.ca

I found this on his site: Fraser visited Victory Lane on three other occasions in 2003. He finished first in a Pro All Stars Series event and a 250-lap open event at New Brunswick International Speedway (Geary, NB). The NBIS 250 win was the richest in Scott’s career and perhaps the biggest payday ever for a racer in the Maritimes ($24,500).

7:47
For those of you who have never been to this race, it is hard to accurately describe just how strong the fan support in the stands is right now. This is a track that can attract 3,500 fans to some of their weekly shows, so when the biggest race of the year comes to town, it is quite an event.
7:46
I’m not sure, but he is greatly missed after losing his life in a snowmobile accident a few years ago.

For the most part, the #8N crew of Ben Rowe is made up of Hal O’Neal’s team, with Ben’s crew chief from the #48 Scott Mulkern-owned PASS North team lending a hand and Steve Tapley doing the spotting duties.
7:19
They’ve gone through tech several times this weekend, but the pre-race one was a short check that seemed to mostly focus on being weighed.

5:17
Travis Benjamin has led laps in the Auto Value 250 and he’s finished second in this race twice. But he told me earlier this afternoon that he could have his best chance to win the race yet today and that he’s got a very good car under him.
5:16
In today’s race, Travis Kittleson is racing in the memory of his long-time sponsor and friend, Bob Steele of Bob Steele Chevrolet in Florida. Steele passed away earlier this summer and this is the first time that Kittleson has raced since then.
5:13
Travis Kittleson has won the last chance race for the Auto Value 250. Darren McKinnon finished second and notched a transfer spot for the feature as well.
5:13
Travis Kittleson still has a strong lead – now over Darren McKinnon.
5:13
We are at lap 27 of 30.
5:13
Marty Prevost is now up to third.
5:12
Marty Prevost has joined the battle for second place.
5:12

We are now at lap 22.
5:10
On the restart, Travis Kittleson pulled away again.
5:09
The caution is out at lap 17.
5:08
Shawn Pierce has spun on the backstretch and then parked sideways across the track. The caution came out and the field narrowly avoiding clipping his stalled car.
5:08
Travis Kittleson now has a sizable lead.
5:07
We are now halfway at lap 15.
5:07
Some smart guys have been helping out on Travis Kittleson’s car before the Last Chance race – including Gary Crooks and Seth Holbrook. Their work appears to be paying off because Kittleson’s car in the best it has been all day long.
5:06
Travis Kittleson has pulled into the lead on the restart.
5:06
Mike Stevens, Travis Kittleson, Darren McKinnon, Jerome Kehoe and Lowell Affleck will lead the field back to green.

5:03
We are now at lap 6 of 30.
5:03
Darren McKinnon is looking under Travis Kittleson for second place.
5:03
John Flemming is running at a slow pace with the hood off his #97 Super Late Model. So far, this just hasn’t been his day.
5:02
Restart on lap one. Shawn Pierce leads and Travis Kittleson has now rocketed into second place.
5:01
Mike Stevens has now inherited the lead.
5:00
The #45 of Leonard Boutilier is being sent to the rear of the field for contact with Shawn Pierce on lap one.
4:59
On the first lap of the Last Chance race, Shawn Pierce spun going into turn three. He managed to keep his #21 at the bottom apron of the track and what could have been a big wreck only involved his car.
4:59
The Last Chance race is now underway.
4:58
We talked to Travis Kittleson down in the pits before the Last Chance race and he told us that they are chasing the handling on his #30 car badly today. They suspect that there could be some type of problem that they haven’t found yet.
4:58
No, I talked to Mike Rowe last night at Beech Ridge and he wasn’t planning on coming up for today’s race. Hopefully, he is following along with our Trackside Now updates to keep track of how his son Ben in doing in today’s race.

Comment From Norwood Arena Fan

Good Luck Johnny Benson see ya at Lee Raceway next week thanks 51 for race coverage

4:08
We are now going to take a break to walk down to the pit area and see what is up with the teams entered in tonight’s race. We will bring you coverage of the Last Chance race for the Super Late Models/Pro Stocks when that event takes place.
4:07
Although it is about four hours until feature time, the grandstands are almost completely full here at Speedway 660. There is also a large hospitality tent in the turn two area.
4:06
Shawn Tucker isn’t running his normal car from the Carquest Maritimes Pro Stock Tour here today. Since he is the point leader heading into the season finale of that series next week at Scotia Speedworld (NS), he saved his car for that event. Instead, he is running a car that was new this year and won on opening day at Speedway 660. Tucker builds racecars under the Tucker Racing Products banner and has turned out about 30 cars in the Sportsman division so far. Tucker will drive on of those cars, the #70, as a sub in tomorrow’s O’Leary 150 Sportsman race here.
4:03
Last week, in the regular season finale at Speedway 660, Brian Gillespie wrecked hard. It didn’t look like he would make it back for this week, but the #69 team rebuilt their car completely and got it back out here for this week’s big race. Gillespie is already qualified for tonight’s feature race and is very thankful to his crew and sponsors for that hard work.
4:02
Legends are running today and Bandos will race tomorrow.
4:02
Comment From Keith Mackintosh

Where they able to run the Legends or Bandos on today’s schedule?

4:01
PASS North driver Joey Doiron is here as a spectator today.
4:01
Travis Kittleson is running the #30 and a paint scheme from his old ASA National Tour car today here at Speedway 660. Kittleson was a standout driver on that tour when it went under after the 2004 racing season.
4:00
Seth Holbrook is the crew chief on Ben Rowe’s team today. Holbrook is also the crew chief for Rowe’s regular Scott Mulkern-owned PASS North ride.
4:00
Jerome Kehoe is the top rookie currently in the Carquest Maritimes Pro Stock Tour standings. Today he is running his second event at Speedway 660. Kehoe told us today that the track is a challenging one to learn and that until about 50 laps to go in that first race, he wasn’t yet getting a handle on it.
3:58
Lonnie Sommerville is the Rick Hendrick or Jack Roush of the Auto Value 250. In addition to his own #23 car, the defending race winner is also fielding entries for Johnny Benson and Travis Kittleson. The car of Matt Harris is also maintained in Sommerville’s shop and he has also spent the last several weeks working on the #97 of John Flemming in those shops as well.
3:57
There was just a scary moment during pace laps for the 50-lap Street Stock race. The #40 Chevy Malibu broke an axle, which came off and bounced, along with the left rear wheel and tire, into the infield. No track workers were hit by the speeding parts assembly and the #40 was towed off the track.
3:56
The Auto Value 250 weekend starts with a corn boil for teams, fans and campers on Friday night of the race weekend.

On lap one of the second consi, Marty Prevost made contact with the #97 of Chris Duncan and spun him around.
3:30
Here is a correction to an earlier posting. Ben Rowe has not yet qualified for the Auto Value 250. In fact, he didn’t run a heat race lap yet after his engine was changed. The #8 that we identified as being Rowe and transferring actually was Kent Vincent’s #8. We’re sorry for the error.
3:27
Scott Chubbuck and Lonnie Sommerville have taken the two transfer spots of the first consi race. They had nearly a half lap on the rest of the field in this 20-lap qualifier.

Travis Benjamin’s team reported to us earlier today that he car was very well suited to him. After seeing him run strong in his heat race, we would have to agree.
3:19
American Kirk Thibeau is a former winner of this race, but he’s facing a challenge today. Thibeau debuted a new car this year and has been chasing the set-up on it since then in PASS North races at White Mountain Motorsports Park (NH) and Spud Speedway (ME). He’s still chasing the car today and calls the process “challenging”.

Comment From Mike Harnish

great job as always!!

3:18
Johnny Clark helped Ben Rowe today by designing and decaling a “N” to go with the number 8 on Rowe’s car. Clark produces his own lettering for his race team.
3:16
The approximate start time for the feature tonight is 7pm local time. We are now one time zone before the Eastern section of the United States.

What time is the feature going to start?

Dave O’Blenis had a skip in his engine this morning and changed an ignition coil and spark plugs to fix the problem.
3:13
It is our plan and hope that we will be providing Trackside Now coverage of the PASS 400 weekend at Beech Ridge next week. Due to reasons that are completely out of our control, we have not been able to cover PASS North races firsthand on Speed51.com for much of the summer.

Comment From stacy s

will you be covering the 400 at beechridge next week

3:12
Not this year. We might be able to do a 51 Radio broadcast from this event in the future, but there are some logistical challenges involved getting all of the needed equipment and bodies up to Canada.

Comment From Linda

can we here this race on speed radio?

3:11
Speed51.com has been, or will be, in Alabama, Indiana, New Brunswick and North Carolina events this weekend, but sadly we can’t be everywhere. We will not be featuring live coverage of the ACT Late Model Labor Day Classic at Thunder Road today.

During the first two years that Johnny Benson raced here in the Auto Value 250, he drove a car prepared by Dave O’Blenis. When Benson became a last minute entry this year, O’Blenis didn’t have a second car ready for Benson to drive, so Benson is part of the Lonnie Sommerville Racing stable this time. O’Blenis and Benson still enjoy a good friendship though.

After Benson drove O’Blenis’ car, the Canadian driver went to Martinsville Speedway (VA) to help Bensons’ Truck Series efforts a few years back. Benson rewarded him by winning the race. Benson than allowed O’Blenis to come out to Berlin Raceway (MI) where O’Blenis drove one of Benson’s radical Outlaw Super Late Models. O’Blenis raced his way to third in that event.

O’Blenis has also fielded a car in this race for Johnny Sauter, who invited O’Blenis to come down to North Carolina to hang out at his home and in the raceshop out back where Sauter’s own Super Late Model is kept.

The forklift that was used to help change engines on the cars of Ben Rowe and Daryl Mahar used a tie-down ratchet strap across its folks to actually tie the engine to. It was a bit crude, but it worked!
2:57
I don’t have an official count but it appears that the Super Late Model car count is in the high 30’s today.

how many cars are there

Junior Kelly, a former MASCAR champion in Canada, is here helping out the #98 of Jerome Kehoe as a coach so to speak. Kelly wasn’t even sure what year he won the MASCAR title. “Was it 1984?” he was asked. Kelly’s reply? “I might have been. It might have been 1985 though.” We later confirmed his championship did come in 1985.
2:54
John Flemming changed a clutch earlier today.
2:54
The hometrack banner today is being carried by Chris Duncan – who won the first ever Pro Stock championship here at Speedway 660 in 1994 and then backed that up with his second title this season.
2:54
During this break in the Super Late Model action, we’ll be bringing you up to speed on some pit notes of this morning.
2:52
Travis Benjamin is driving his own #17B car with his own crew for the most part. Richard Moody Racing’s Buster Bean is here doing the tires on Benjamin’s car.

The fourth heat race is now on the track with Greg Faye and Greg Ploude starting on the front row. I’m reasonably sure on the spelling of Faye’s name, but please forgive me if it is wrong. I can’t quite make out the writing on his roof from the tower.

Today’s weather here at Speedway 660 is beautiful. The remains of Hurricane Earl visited the area yesterday and left the track with heavy rainfall, but today it is clear and comfortable with only white clouds in the sky. Yesterday’s O’Leary Pontiac-Buick-GMC 150 for the Sportsman cars was washed out by the weather and will now take place tomorrow here at Speedway 660.
1:49
Earlier today, Canadian racing photographer Ken MacIsaac served as a tour guide around the pits as I gathered a notebook full of pit notes that I will be sharing with you shortly. Stay tuned for updates from several top Canadian and American drivers.

Welcome to Speedway 660, where the Auto Value 250 will take place today. This track is located outside of Fredericton, New Brunswick about an hour and a half North of the United States/Canadian Border. It was formerly known as New Brunswick International Speedway. This race has built up quite a following in its fairly brief history and is known as the Auto Value 250 for the first time this season. It has also been dubbed the NBIS 250 and the Peterbilt 250. It features Pro Stock/Super Late Model racecars.

We’ve been a little bit delayed today getting online as we figured out the Internet connection up here in a foreign land, but we are good to go now and will bring you the rest of the action for the day.
