Reports are that Dery was going faster than the cars in front of him under caution and had to stab the brakes too hard to avoid running into the back of anyone. That led to a solo spin on the fronstretch.

Comment From ericb

Do you know what happened to take Blewett out?

6:27
There was a mechanical problem on Jimmy Blewett’s car that sent it to the garage, but we are not sure what it was.
6:26
Todd Szegedy has commented that Mike Stefanik “jumped” the final two restarts of the WMT feature “pretty good”.
6:26
Pace laps are underway for the ACT Late Models.
6:25
Mike Stefanik could not take part in the post race winner’s interview for the assembled media here at NHMS because he had to hop into the #57 Late Model of RPM Motorsports for the 50-lap conclusion of the ACT portion of the Granite State Classic.
6:24
“Cautions breed cautions,” was Pitkat’s answer to that German journalist’s question.
6:24
A German journalist just commented to Todd Szegedy and Woody Pitkat that he was surprised by the amount of caution periods in the WMT race. “It’s hit or miss here…” said Szegedy. “It’s the nature of the beast because we go too fast here. Our last race only had two cautions.”
6:23
The ACT Late Models are rolling out onto the track for their 50 lap race.
6:22
Mike Stefanik won the NASCAR WMT feature – which is the 71st career victory on the Tour in his career. Stefanik also has earned seven Tour championships (in addition to his two NASCAR North Series titles).
6:22
James Civali might not be the most popular guy in the NASCAR WMT garage area right now. Andy Seuss expressed some displeasure with him after an incident that took both drivers, along with Ron Yuhas, out of the race. Then Todd Szegedy commented in a post race interviewed that Civali “almost cleaned me out.”
6:20
We are back at the keyboard after the conclusion of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race.
4:01
We are now Live on NASCARHomeTracks.com
3:33
IRL qualifying is nearing its completion. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race will start in about 30 minutes. We’ll put Trackside Now on hold for that race and bring you live radio coverage of the event at NASCARHomeTracks.com. After the conclusion of the WMT feature, we’ll be back at the keyboard for the second portion of the ACT Late Model part of the Granite State Classic.
3:31
Don’t forget to jump over to NASCARHomeTracks.com for live coverage of the Granite State Classic here at New Hampshire starting at 4pm. Elgin “Stat Boy” Traylor, Mike Twist and Brian Twist will be on the call for the NASCAR Home Track Broadcast.
3:31
After today’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour feature, Andy Seuss will hop into a street car and head over to Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, Vermont. That is where he’ll wheel the #22 Armand Boisvert-owned Sprint Car in tonight’s Sprint Cars of New England feature. Seuss is having fun wheeling that car in his free time this year and has already picked up the nickname “Asphalt Andy” among the SCoNE crowd.
3:29
NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour driver Ryan Preece won last night’s SK Modified feature at Stafford Motor Speedway (CT). He’ll start 16th in today’s WMT event.
3:28
Longtime crew member and tire specialist Buster Bean, who has worked with such New England racing legends as Mike Rowe, Ben Rowe and Dale Shaw before, is here helping out Bradley Babb for today’s ACT race. Bean keeps busy with racing throughout the summer, but he has something very different to do during the off season. He runs his own ski shop – BESTunes – at the Sunday River ski resort in Maine.
3:24
Several of the ACT competitors have been staying next door to the track at the Speedway Sports Park campground and last night, they got to enjoy a dinner and the entertainment from a band at the facility within walking distance of the track. Randy Potter, Ben Ashline, John Donahue and Mike Kenison were just a few of the drivers we spotted over there. Sites are available for the September races at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, as well as for the 2012 events at the track, so if you want to camp like the race teams do, give them a call.
3:14
Mike Stefanik is the only driver pulling double duty today – he is running the Flamingo Motorsports #16 in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event and the RPM Motorsports #57 Late Model in the ACT show.
3:14
Homestate Modified driver Andy Seuss is sporting a new sponsor today – GEX Publishing Services has joined the New Hampshire-based team of Seuss.
3:10
Jimmy “Scruffy” Linardy did not qualify for today’s ACT portion of the Granite State Classic, but he and his crew did stick around to enjoy the event as spectators anyways. In fact, they were able to help out another team in need. Mike Stefanik’s ACT team was having radio trouble after having to share a frequency with another team, so Linardy’s bunch lend Stefanik’s team their radios for the day.
2:50
Indy Lights qualifying is now complete and we are getting to within one hour of the start for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour portion of today’s Granite State Classic here at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Brent Dragon is hoping to rebound from his recent DNQ in the TD Bank Oxford 250 today. Dragon didn’t get a chance to test here at NHMS and was a bit behind yesterday – trying a change with the car that didn’t work. They have since changed “everything” and are confident about today’s race – even if they are starting out back with a provisional.
10:31
Randy Potter also has a new body on his old car today – it was a machine that won its debut at Oxford Plains Speedway several years back. “We had to put a new dress on the ‘ole girl,” Potter told us.
10:30
Austin Theirault’s team hung a new body on their family-owned car for this race. It is the same car that he finished third with in the recent TD Bank Oxford 250. The body needed some attention overnight though. Theirault got caught in an on-track incident that involved John Donahue and a few other competitors.
10:28
Joey Pole was showing some love for fellow competitor Jimmy Linardy this morning by wearing a “Jim’s Truck Service” shirt around the pit area. Linardy might not be a threat to win every week, but he is known as one of the nicest guys in the pit area.
10:27
Several teams, including those of Randy Potter and Joey Pole, reported that their cars were a bit tight yesterday. Adjustments were made before today’s events to compensate for that.
10:26
We caught up with Oxford Plains Speedway (ME) regular Shawn Martin this morning, he told us that his bright red #94 Late Model was “not bad at all” for today’s race.
10:25
The ACT driver’s meeting was held earlier this morning and the Tour’s leader, Tom Curley, had a tough time being heard. That is because the IRL was testing out their PA speakers near the ACT trailer. All of that music and bass drowned out Curley’s sermon. However, a few key points were made even over the sounds of Madonna. Curley pointed to his head and the term “using sense” was heard at one point as was the term, “once in a lifetime event”.
10:23
They are running in the 21-22 second range here this weekend.

Comment From dm

just out of curiosity, what speeds and lap times are the indy cars running?

10:22
More on Eddie MacDonald and his #17 Late Model – The car didn’t exact get overhauled over the winter. It got put into the trailer and parked in a field behind the house of crew chief Rollie LaChance is the town of New Gloucester, Maine. The LaChance family has a shop, but as Rollie said, “In the winter, you have to have somewhere to park the snowmobiles!”

When the spring came around, it was found that there were a few visitors to the trailer. Mice had made it their home too during the long Maine winter. In fact, there is still a rodent nest in one of the team’s tool cabinets.

“We just didn’t have the heart to take out their nest,” joked Rollie LaChance.

The trailer also has a nickname now – Rusty Top. LaChance’s children came up with that at a track when they were looking into the infield from the stands. They could quickly pick out their trailer thanks to the “rusty top” of its roof.

The ACT Late Model spotters are crossing the track now to prepare for the first segment of their Granite State Classic event.
10:17
Most ACT garage area observers are pointing to the #17 of Eddie MacDonald as the car to beat today. MacDonald won the first ever ACT race here at NHMS two years ago as well as the 2009 and 2010 TD Bank Oxford 250s with the same car that they are running today.

That car is a bit unique on the ACT Tour because it uses rear truck arms. But MacDonald and crew chief Rollie LaChance wanted to try and throw off their competition this morning when they discussed the car’s construction with Speed51.com.

“Tell everyone we took the truck arms out and put leaf springs in,” joked MacDonald.

By the end of the conversation, the duo told us that they were also running drum brakes, a torsion bar in the front and a few other very unique items.

MacDonald, who has a very quiet and shy personality, was a bit uncomfortable as being pegged as the favorite for today’s race too.

“That can be a bad thing…we get jinxed when people say that,” MacDonald said.

Nick Sweet runs his family-owned #88VT weekly at Thunder Road Speedbowl. At Beech Ridge and today here at NHMS, Sweet is driving Eric Chase’s #40VT Late Model. For the remainder of the ACT Late Model Tour season, he will be driving the PRM Motorsports #57 owned by Rick and Michelle Paya. So Sweet is getting the chance to wheel a few different rides this season.

I noticed that Nick Sweet is listed to start todays ACT race in the 40 VT. Is that a typo or did something happen to his primary car, the 88VT?
