The ACT Consi races are up next. They will be 12 laps in length. The line-ups are posted below.
3:13
Corey Williams…not the Corey Williams of PASS fame…has won the Sport Truck feature at Oxford. Ironically, the Corey Williams who does race a part-time schedule in PASS North served as a one-race crew chief on the Sport Truck that I (Mike Twist) raced at Beech Ridge and Oxford several years ago.
3:12
Bill Glover won the earlier Renegade feature.
3:11
Dottie Patria beat Tasha Dyer out of turn four on the final lap to win the Ladies division feature race. It was an exciting finish which included some contact between the two ladies as the race wound down.
3:10
Some of the Oxford Acceleration Series divisions have been shortened to move things along quicker. The pace of the day is going along well and fans are getting plenty of action for their money.
3:10
Comment From Superlatemodel Fan

Why did Bill Ryan have to have 8 divison of racing. Way to much racing for an old guy like me. Glad I stayed home.

3:07
According to a Facebook post by a team source, the #02 of Randy Potter had tire problems in his heat race. The weather is warm here today that could be a contributing factor to Potter’s tires coming apart.
3:03
There is a good chance of that – unless he wins before July, which is another good possibility.
3:03
Comment From Mike Harnish

I think austins first win will be the 250..

3:02
In his shop. Jeff Taylor is not racing here today. As noted below, he is here at the track visiting with teams that run his Distance Racing Products racecars.

2:47
The next points race on the ACT Late Model tour schedule will take place at White Mountain Motorsports Park on June 23rd. If you’ve never been to that beautiful track in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, you ought to consider making the trip there to see some great short track action.
2:44
The PASS North tour will be here at Oxford a few times this year – including on the weekend of the TD Bank Oxford 250 in July. We look forward to bringing you coverage of many ACT Late Model and PASS North events this season on Speed51.com. Even better though is seeing either tour firsthand. Be sure to check to schedules page of Speed51.com to see when either tour is coming to a track near you.

1:57
Comment From Mike Harnish

In english terms on how they get in?

1:56
Yes, Joey Pole and Brian Hoar are both heavy hitters starting their heat races from one of the final two spots on the grid. Both men should be exciting to watch as they hope to make it through the field.
1:55
Comment From MarkP

Man, Joey Pole can’t catch a good heat number, BUT I bet he makes it close to the front with a +6 or so…

1:55
There will be five qualifiers out of each heat race today. The other finishers will then be funneled into a pair of consi races where the top four will advance, but only the top two will be eligible for the plus/minus lineup system. After that, a B-Main/Last Chance race will be run with the top two finishers making it into the feature race. Finally, there will be two ACT provisionals and one Oxford Plains Speedway Late Model provisional awarded to the non-qualifiers. That is how the starting field will be set today.

The crack ACT Late Model media staff has just provided us a current roster and heat race line-ups. Stay tuned, they will be posted as quickly as I can type them out.
1:42
No, we don’t have any official timing and scoring results on the frontstretch. If we get anything, I will be sure to post it. Thank you for tuning in.

Did the timing sheet for the round of practice is out? Excellent job Speed51!

ACT Late Model regular Ben Ashline got a little extra exposure this week when he was a Friday morning guest on a Sports Radio program in Portland, Maine. The “In the Pits” program that he appeared on his hosted by Oxford Plains Speedway track owner Bill Ryan. The show features talk for an hour every week about NASCAR racing, regional short track tours and local weekly racing.

Former Beech Ridge Motor Speedway (ME) Sports Series champion Chris Smith is here today driving the #14 Late Model for car owner George Libby. Libby is an old school racer who elected for a simple, but effective, paint scheme on the car for this year. It will be Libby’s debut as an ACT car owner, but he has a history in the series. Back in the 1980’s, Libby ran multiple ACT Pro Stock events as a driver and teammate to former Beech Ridge track champion Mike Miatta, Sr.

I think that we will for the TD Bank 250 later this summer. It’s hard to keep Maine native “Stat Boy” Elgin Traylor out of his homestate for one of the biggest short track events of the season. He’s hard at work today down at Speed51.com’s North Carolina headquarters instead.
1:33
Comment From Mike Harnish

Perhaps you need a pit side reporter?

1:31
No, unfortunately we probably won’t have any heat line-ups until the cars roll onto the track. The line-ups are posted in the backstretch pit area and I am stationed on the frontstretch in the press box. At Oxford, as you know, there is not a path from the fronstretch to the backstretch areas. It’s a long walk outside the track around turns one and two to get there. Unless provided any line-ups, which I don’t expect, I’ll be eye-balling how they come out onto the track and typing quickly to share that. It’s not ideal, but it should work ok. I’ll try to post a #51 photo for you to make up for the delay. 🙂
1:31
Comment From Lynn R.

do you have any heat line ups yet ??

1:28
Oxford Plains Speedway Late Model regular Matt Sanborn has entered a few ACT Late Model events in the past, but he’s here as a fan today. Sanborn is waiting one more week to make his 2012 driving debut – when the regular season opens up here at Oxford. Sanborn, who is a UPS delivery driver during the week, would loved to have raced here today but the tire bill was going to be a little bit much for his low budget operation.

Canadian Donald Theetge is a Honda dealer North of the Border. He has run Honda livery on his Late Models in past seasons – being a unique brand in a field of Ford Fusions, Chevrolet Impalas and Monte Carlos and a Dodge Charger or two. This year though, Theetge is really going for a unique look – he is sporting Acura branding on his machine.

Wayne Helliwell, Jr.’s enters this weekend’s race as the ACT Late Model point leader. He finished second to Brian Hoar in the first two events of the season – at Lee and Thunder Road, before he won the third race on the schedule at Vermont’s Devil’s Bowl Speedway. he also has three open competition Late Model victories to his credit so far this season.

The track is currently quiet. Practice is over for all divisions and heat races will start at 2pm ET.
1:06
Speedway 95 (ME) competitor Ryan Deane is entered here today with his #54 Late Model. Deane finished seventh in the feature at that track near Bangor last night. He looks to run the ACT events at Oxford this year as well as possibly the ACT race at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. Helping him out today is his brother in law – Super Late Model driver Jesse Smith, whose also serves a crew chief on his father’s #75 PASS North Super Late Model.
1:03
Comment From Mike Harnish

It appears that the ford act package is a far superior package than the chevy.. Certainly wayne can wheel a car and has it dialed in..

1:03
Vanna Brackett is a rookie in the Late Model division this year after spending a year in the Oxford Strictly Stocks and winning dozens of Ladies division features at this track through the years. Her father is former track champion Tim Brackett and her brother T.J. Brackett has had plenty of success here as well.

Brackett is driving the #3 entry today in what she hopes will be her debut ACT Late Model tour event. She had a flat tire early in practice, but rported that the car was running very good prior to that happening.

Wayne Helliwell, Jr. has had a pretty darn good weekend before even getting here to Oxford. On Friday night, he finished second in the small-block Supermodified feature at Lee USA Speedway (NH), where he is the defending track champion. Last night, he and his #27 team went to Canaan Fair Speedway (NH) for a twin Late Model races. They won both of their features. Helliwell is hoping to continue his success today and reports that his car is pretty good so far.

Ben Rowe’s spotter, Steve Tapley, reported that their car was turning laps of 16 seconds flat in practice and that the team feels “pretty good” about their car today.
12:54
Randy Potter’s team reports that their #02 Late Model was “running decent” early in practice. That was before all of the sessions were completed though – and one of the crew members pointed out, “We still have time to mess it up.”
12:53
12:49
Jeff Taylor, who won an ACT Late Model feature last season at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, is here today – but not as a driver. Taylor is wearing the hat of car builder for his Distance Racing Products operation. We saw him visiting with the teams of Ben Ashline and Ray Parent earlier this morning.
12:45
The #97 team of Joey Pole broke a transmission early in practice today. They replaced it and have been back on track since then. Joey’s father Joe reports that all is well now with the team and that the broken unit was a brand new transmission.
12:44
We have also found out that the driver of the #73 Late Model is Adam Polvinen.
12:42
We have left Austin Theriault off the roster accidently. He is driving the #57 Late Model today.
12:41
Yes, Ben Rowe is here in the #10 as listed on the roster. We only included state names for duplicate numbers and there is onyl one #10 here today.

I assume Ben Rowe is in the 10NH?

You can make that 48 cars unofficially on the roster. There is a maroon and dark blue #73 Late Model currently on the track. It’s a new car to us and does not appear on either the ACT or Oxford Plains Speedway rosters. It is likely a Maine driver though because the car is sponsored by RPM Racing Engines – a local engine builder.

Thank you and thanks for tuning in.

We will have a full, but highly unofficial, roster of ACT Late Models for you shortly. Stay tuned.

Our highly unofficial car count here today is 47 Late Models entered and on the ground to attempt to qualify for today’s race. That number came from walking through the pits with a notebook in hand. There are actually two pit ares here on the backstretch at Oxford, so it might be a car or two short. It’s sometimes easy to miss a hauler or trailer – especially when there are everything from toterhomes to open trailers hauling these cars today.

Good afternoon from the Oxford Hills of Maine, where Oxford Plains Speedway is located. Today, the season kicks off its 2012 racing season with an appearance of the ACT Late Model Tour. We will be live with you through the afternoon as heat races and a 150-lap feature take place. Stay tuned for event coverage, photos and pit notes. The racing starts at 2pm, so if you are anywhere near the area come on out and catch the action firsthand. The weather is great and there are plenty of racecars here – it’s well worth the trip.
