That will conclude our coverage of the Fall Foliage 200 and the ACT championship event here at Airborne Speedway. Thank you to everyone who tuned into Speed51’s coverage from home throughout the day.

Congratulations to race winner Alex Labbe and 2013 ACT champion Wayne Helliwell Jr.

From Plattsburgh, New York, have a great evening. We’ll see you next Saturday and Sunday for the 51st running of the People’s United Bank Milk Bowl at Thunder Road Speedbowl.

6:39

Wayne Helliwell Jr. on how his second championship compares to his first:

“Last year, I thought things almost went too smoothly, “Helliwell said. “This year was different, it was more of a reality check. We didn’t win like we did last year. We struggled a little bit more. This championship was more of a realistic one. To come in here today with such a good cushion was really good.”

6:31

Hoar on his respect for Helliwell and the No. 27 team:

“I congratulate those guys,” Hoar said. “I have a lot of respect for Wayne Helliwell. He beat us fair and square last year. I shook his hand earlier in the year when I walked away to not points race and said I knew he’d be in the mix for the championship. He’s that good and that consistent all the time. They earned it and deserved it. I’m certainly glad that incident didn’t ruin that opportunity.”

6:30

Brian Hoar on the contact made with Wayne Helliwell Jr.:

“I made a bid to go to his outside and sail it down in there,” Hoar said. “He moved up and contact was made. I guess the rest is history. I was like, ‘uh oh’ not good because I’m very, very aware of the fact they’re running for a championship.”

“It’s racing. We can let it go or we can all go (expletive) wreck each other. It’s real simple. If you all want to go (expletive) wreck each other, we can all go (expletive) wreck each other.”

5:48

Joey Polewarczyk Jr. on coming up short at his bid for the championship:

“We knew it was a long shot to win the championship today,” Polewarczyk Jr. said. “Wayne had to have bad luck. Of course, I don’t like to wish that on him. We knew what we had to do. We knew he had to get to the front and lead laps. I needed to lead the most laps.”

“We didn’t win the championship, but it was a great year. We had a lot of wins and a lot of finishes right up front. I can’t complain. It’s been an awesome year.”

5:44

Wayne Helliwell Jr. on what went through his head after being involved in a lap 187 wreck:

“All of the sudden I just felt the car start to go around,” Helliwell said. “We really barely entered turn one and it went around. I don’t know what kind of miscue that was. I definitely thought our day was done after the big slam. I’m amazed it was able to fire back up and we were able to drive away.”

ACT Late Models will run three 8-lap qualifying heats for today’s race. Each heat will qualify four drivers and their starting spot in the feature will be determined by their plus/minus rating from their heat.

All non-qualified drivers will then be sent to consolation races, where four drivers will carry over their plus/minus rating from the heat race.
