2013 American-Canadian Tour champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. is a notable absentee this weekend. A sponsor that he and his team were counting on to help offset some of the Milk Bowl’s associated costs backed out just before race weekend, which kept the 27NH at the shop this weekend

Helliwell did have a clever post on his Twitter page earlier today about the situation…

One other procedural change announced in the drivers meeting was that because there aren’t enough 100-percent attendance drivers from ACT and Thunder Road here this weekend, those provisionals will now go to the fastest qualifying ACT regular that doesn’t transfer in the B-Feature as well as the fastest qualifying Serie ACT not making it from the B.

12:56

As far as the 2014 ACT schedule, Curley said the season will open at Lee (NH) and will continue on with an event here at Thunder Road. The entire schedule will be between eight and 10 events in 2014. He hopes to have the complete schedule finalized by Thanksgiving.

12:55

Curley also announced in the meeting that negotiations are ongoing to finalize a Southern New England Triple Crown for the American-Canadian Tour with events at Waterford Speedbowl and Thompson International Speedway in Connecticut and Seekonk Speedway in Massachusetts.

12:54

Curley said in the drivers meeting that Thunder Road International Speedbowl is indeed for sale, as rumors have had it recently. Curley has said that there have been some interested parties, but he and his business partner Ken Squier will only sell the track to a party who will keep this facility a racetrack. Curley also said that the American-Canadian Tour is also for sale and in a perfect world, he’d sell them both together and he’d continue operating ACT while helping the new track owner operate that entity. He intends to continue operating both entities until either a new buyer is found and will continue in his role even if a new buyer is not found.

About the incident between Polewarczyk and Laperle, Polewarczyk told 51 that he was told by the track official at the turn-one entrance chute to go on track. It’s a blind corner, so Polewarczyk said he had to rely solely on the official to know when it was safe to enter the racing surface. When he did so, Polewarczyk collided with Laperle.

Polewarczyk’s car suffered a broken control arm and the entire rear end was moved over in addition to some body damage. The team is currently assessing and fixing the total damage.

“It was interesting,” Brian Hoar said about yesterday’s test session on the new American Racer tires. “They’re a whole different beast. They’re just a lot different tire. They’re actually narrower and have a totally different side wall construction. I don’t know what the compound is like, but they have a totally different feel to them. They drive different. I think it’s anybody’s game right now. It will be interesting.”

45 Late Model teams were here at Thunder Road on Friday for a testing session on the new American Racer tires. This weekends event will be the first race for the ACT-type Late Model’s on the new tire. There were no transponder times from yesterday’s test session, but a quick run through the pit area this morning points to Joey Polewarczyk Jr. being one of the fastest cars throughout the day yesterday.
