7:21

Just as we say that, Brannon’s car returns from the pit area andn takes its place at the tail end of the field.  Like the other cars that were removed from post-qualifying impound, Brannon will start the race at the tail, down a lap and unable to get a free pass in the first 25 laps.

7:19

Another update from post qualifying, Chris Brannon broke an axle on his qualifying run.  The car is currently in the pit area and is not lined up on the starting grid.

7:17

“They’re not soaked soaked,” Moore told 51 after being informed of his penalty.  “We rubbed some stuff on (the tires), but as far as using a rotisserie or something, we didn’t do that.  Everyone else is doing it.  We didn’t want to come down here with our pants down.”

7:16

TECH
Fredrick Moore has been penalized to the rear of the field, will have to change tires before the race, and will start the race one lap down and unable to receive a free pass in the first 25 laps because of soaked tires.

Tech official Ricky Brooks used a “sniffer” device on the entire field’s tires as the cars sit on the grid.  The device indicated a soaking material used on Moore’s tires and after some further testing, the penalty was handed down.

Moore will start at the tail, moving the outside lane up one row with Moore dropping from second to the back.

Tommy Styer will pull his car out of the grid to change gears before the race.   Styer will start the race at the tail and down one lap for pulling out of impound before the race.   Styer can not get the lap back via a free pass under caution in the first 25 laps of the race.

6:42

Pro Late Model drivers are being called to their cars to get lined up on the front stretch for tonight’s main event.  Each car can have one crew member with it on the grid to pull tape.

Again, the Super Late Models are done for the day here at New Smyrna. Their 200-lap feature will go green tomorrow night.

5:55

None of the Anderson family have pre-entered for this event, nor have they gone through the pit gates as a late entry thus far this weekend.

Choquette was pre-entered, but has not yet arrived. But as Augie Grill proved last year, being here for Super Late Model qualifying day is not necessarily a detriment. Grill showed up on race day, made less than a handful of practice laps and qualified on the outside pole en route to the victory in last year’s Governor’s Cup.

Several Modifieds are running this first practice session without a transponder. We’ll have times once the round is over, but note not all drivers who took to the track will be listed. Timing and scoring officials are working to get transponders on the remaining cars as we speak.

4:00

The pre-qualifying tech line for the Pro Late Models is now open. Cars will need to go through tech then will be lined up on the frontstretch. All cars must be across by 5:15pm. This is an impound race tonight. Only thing the teams can do before the race is tire adjustment and put a water bottle in the car for the driver. This is also a four-tire race.

3:56

Comment From Keene Crew

Good Luck Daniel, we love you!!

3:56

Two cautions have already flown in this Modified practice. First, Todd Stone looped his No. 1x in turn four. He didn’t hit anything and was able to continue. Moments ago, Shain Held went up in smoke on the front stretch. He went to pit road and the track crew cleaned up any dropped fluid before the green flew again.

The fire on Kreyer’s car went on for several minutes even with track crews’ best efforts to extinguish it. Ricky Brooks, the lead tech inspector for this event, told 51 this morning that he has a remedy that he will likely announce in the next week that should prevent fire issues like the one that occurred in Kreyer’s car yesterday.

Brooks, who is also the lead tech inspector for the Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco, wished to not go into detail on what caused the ongoing fire or his fix until all of the details are completed, but said that he will likely be announcing a change at or before the Southern Super Series’ All American 400 event next weekend in Nashville.

The aftermath of Kreyer’s scary crash and fire here yesterday. (Speed51.com photo)

12:55

We continue to have good news to report on Wisconsin driver Frank Kreyer, who crashed hard with his Super Late Model here yesterday. The car burst into flames and has created one of the most viewed and talked-about photos on 51’s social media streams. Kreyer was transported to a local hospital where he was diagnosed with just a broken elbow. Kreyer was released from the hospital last evening and 51 has been in communication with crew and family members, who report that Kreyer is in good spirits. His car is demolished and the team has taken their rig from its parking spot in the infield, we and everyone at the track and viewing the scary aftermath photos are happy to hear that Kreyer is doing well today.
