All the haulers are required to be out of the track by 9 AM tomorrow so fan’s can have a “clean” view of the track for the Snowball. Haulers for the teams who are racing tomorrow will park along side the highway.

Comment From speed51 fan

Way to go Ross you really hung in there.

9:47

Augie’s going to win three fincancial prizes: He won the winner’s purse, a load of JEGS Laps money, and best of all won’t have to be shelling any of the purse on fixing his machine. You’re right though that pretty much everyone will need to visit the body shop.

9:29

The cars have refired and we are rolling under the yellow flag once again. We will eventually restart at JEGS Lap 95 with just five laps remaining in the Allen Turner Hyundai Snowflake 100.

Thanks for McGunegill Engine Performance for sponsoring today’s Trackside Now coverage.

9:26

We should note Odom completed the pass for second.

9:26

Looking at some photos track photographers took as it happened, it appears something was wrong with Ross Kenseth and that is who Pollard was trying to avoid.

9:26

Now under this red flag Grill leads Odom, Hemric, Bendele and Johnson.

9:25

Pollard said in his track PR feed interview, someone in front of him checked up, he tried to avoid them and swerved too much.

9:18

We see Logan Boyett’s right side door peeled back like an aluminum can.

9:17

Loden has climbed from his car, apparently done for the night.

9:17

Amber Odom, Brandon Odom’s sister just tweeted “Lap 93 — Bubba got spun going for the lead, Brandon P3. #nervous #Snowflake #SnowballDerby”.

You probably saw it on the nifty AR Bodies Snowball Derby Twitter feed located just to the right of our Trackside Now screen.

9:14

9:10

GREEN: Grill and Pollard side by side into turn one again.

9:10

Likely not, but it never hurts.

9:10

8:29

We have not made a lap over the past few restarts and are still on JEGS lap 73.

8:26

Comment From Chest Rockwell

If you can’t be there in person, nothing quite compares to listening to the silky smooth color commentary of Duke Kentfield from the comfort of your couch…… awesome!

8:25

Including Elliott, most cars drove away (though most are pretty badly damaged). We saw Robbins, Davis, and Brandon Jones being towed.

8:25

Chase Elloitt’s chances of repeating as winner are all but gone tonight. (Speed51.com Photo.)

8:25

Unfortunately Chase Elliott has sustained substantial front end damage and is being pushed to the pits by the wrecker. That might end the hopes of a lucky fan to win $1,000 if Elliott were to become a repeat winner and take his #9 machine to victory lane again this year.

8:24

6:47

RADIO UPDATE
The broadcast was scheduled for 6:30 with a 7pm CT green flag, but the program is a tad delayed. Once we can go on air, you’ll hear all the action of the Allen Turner Hyundai Snowflake 100.

6:46

A entire sack of White Castles? That’s either awfully impressive or simply awful. Thanks for joining us though!

Lap 10: Edwards is now right back on McCurley’s bumper pressuring him for the second spot.

6:40

Lap 8: Former Snowflake 100 winner Hunter Robbins now leads Stephan McCurley by ten car lengths and they hold the two transfer spots.

If you want to listen to mellow rock, no reason you can’t pull the broadcast up now: http://www.speed51.com/2011_Stories/Snowball_Derby/Derby_Radio.html . Those of you who don’t want to pull it up quite yet, we will let you know when it goes live.

Of course, you are more than free to listen to both the radio and stay on Trackside Now. We’re staying here with lap by lap with pit road comments and pictures. Think of it as a perfect compliment to the radio feed:

6:33

We see the #4 of Chase Knox has a pretty bent hood just one official lap into this Snowflake Last Chance. He is still on the track in eighth.

6:33

Speed 51 Radio is now live with music. Why, you ask? Because we can not go on air until the last chance races are complete. Matt “Duke” Kentfield just alerted listeners that the broadcast will begin once the last chance races are complete. Tune in and listen in and the broadcast will begin shortly after the last chance races.

6:32

Jason Boyd has now pulled away and rejoined the field.

6:32

Chase Miller told us the spur gear broke in the rear-end housing.

Craig told Speed51 earlier that he was not going to run the entire race after being unable to qualify earlier in the day due to a tech issue. He was worried about tearing up a brand new race car if he went for the transfer.

5:56

Eddie Craig has passed the field under the red flag and looks to be heading to pit road.

5:56

Praytor under caution went out and gave the car of John Bolen the ol’ Middle Finger Salute as his car was being attached to a wrecker.

5:56

RED: We are now under red flag conditions for cleanup. The cars have stopped going into turn three.

5:55

Too early to say for sure but now that we’re about twenty cars in, a 17.1 flat looks pretty good. It looks like it’s going to get crowded around the higher 17.1s and 17.2

TECH UPDATE from the Snowball Derby last-chance race. Officials rolled the top five transfer cars over the scales and all came in underweight. According to officials, the cars had to weigh 2750 pounds and cars are given a one-pound break per lap. The top-five cars came in from 10 to 30 pounds under the minimum for post-race. Teams contested that with the extended caution flag periods in the last-chance race, more fuel was burned off to cause the lighter weight.

After some conferencing, all five cars were announced to have passed tech because they all came in underweight due to the total number of laps in the event.

Officially, the top-five cars that transferred were:
1. Casey Smith
2. Stephan McCurley
3. Ross Kenseth
4. Jeff Fultz
5. Ken McFarland

11:52

Something we will keep an eye on. Artuso’s cars are built by GARC, owned by Augie and Frankie Grill. In fact, Augie drove one of Artuso’s Outlaw-bodied cars in the Glass City 200 at Toledo Speedway (OH) a few months ago and the two are good friends. Could Artuso end up in a Grill backup car? We’ll have to see.

11:51

If this car is declared not able to race or if he does not have another car available to him, then the 31st place qualifier last night would automatically move up into a locked position for the Snowball Derby. The 31st place qualifier last night was Stephan McCurley.

11:51

11:50

Jerry Artuso does not have a back up car in his hauler.

11:49

Jerry Artuso is qualified into the Snowball Derby, but unless they put a rear clip on his #5 Super Late Model, he will need to go to another car.

11:48

Stephen Wallace’s crew is working on the rear end of the car. They do not seemed very concerned with the engine at the moment.

11:47

He rolled away under his own power but his machine is crunched up pretty badly.

11:46

The caution is out for a spin by Jerry Artuso.  He has gone hard into the turn two wall.

As we noted from the drivers meeting, the top-five cars from the Snowball Derby 50-lap lap last chance race will transfer into the Snowball Derby instead of the scheduled four because only one of the two Blizzard Series points provisionals was used.  Chris Davidson will use his Blizzard Series points provisional and Steven Wallace will use the Past Champion’s Provisional instead of running the last chance qualifier.

DRIVERS MEETING:

The big news from the morning drivers meeting is that the top five cars from the Snowball Derby Last Chance Race will transfer in. Race officials stated that one the Blizzard Series points provisionals was taken, so they decided to add one more car out of the LCQ. The top two finishers from each Snowflake 100 LCQ will transfer in to the race this evening.

CRA official R.J. Scott invited all drivers to attend Lanier Speedfest and Florida Speedweeks at New Smyrna Speedway.

Track Promoter Tim Bryant reminded all drivers to add the contingency decals to the rides in order to collect the bonus money. Bryant also informed the teams that if a hauler is not removed from the infield by 9a.m. prior to the Snowball Derby, the associated car will start from the rear of the field.
