Comment From bgf2

what car/race is Dave Mader, III running?

5:24
While sometimes it’s nice to know ahead of time whose coming, there’s something neat about a season-ending race where drivers we haven’t seen or heard from in years pop up at the last moment. Adds an extra element of suspense.

Jason Boyd, from TX, did not receive his approval sticker for tomorrow’s practice session just yet. His #9 Pro LM failed tech for loose lead and unpainted lead. He will also receive a 50 lb. weight penalty for having a nose that does not meet ABC Body rules.
4:44
TECH UPDATE: 49 cars have been through Pro Late Model tech.
4:44
Most of the issues in tech today involved the lead weights on the cars.  It was stated in the rules this year that the lead was required to be painted white and the car number was to be displayed on them.  Many did not receive an approved tech sticker yet.  They will need to receive one before hitting the track for practice tomorrow.  Other issues were mainly template related.

While we don’t have official pinpoint counts on our two classes, there are over 50 Snowball cars pitside and even more Snowflake hot rods. Like usual, racing will be at a premium all weekend. Yet another “can’t miss” weekend at Five Flags.

Some sad news to report here today from the Bubba Pollard/Ronnie Sanders Racing team. After the loss of dear friend Beau Slocumb earlier this season, Bubba Pollard’s Ronnie Sanders Racing team will once again be racing with heavy hearts this weekend as they lost crew member Duane Burrows to cancer this morning. Burrows competed in the All American Challenge Series, All Pro Series, and was a regular in DeSoto Speedway Goody’s Late Model competition in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. Burrow has been a vital part of Pollard and Sanders Late Model operation over the last few years. Services are planned for Burrows near his hometown of Bradenton, Florida on Monday.

Derek Thorn has traveled the farthest away and has one of the more unique stories on how his Snowball Derby trip was made possibleThe multi-time SRL Wild West Series Winner and pole winner in the NASCAR K&N Series Toyota All-Star Showdown started a campaign on Facebook to raise money for his 2,100 mile trip to Pensacola, Florida with the goal of raising $7,500.

“It was a goof really,” Thorn explained, “I really wanted to come over for this and just posted on my Facebook page how much I needed to get over here, thinking no way we’re going to get that much and the response was truly overwhelming. We got more than we needed to come and I can’t thank everyone enough for putting up their own hard earned money to get me over here.”

The Lakeport, California driver is driving one of the few, if not the only, Perimeter Chassis’ in the field. “We had to completely change the car around to fit the rules for here. I’ve heard all about the “Room of Doom” I called Ricky (Brooks) a couple of times to make sure on a few things.” He laughed.

Thorn’s 2,100 mile one-way trip gives him the distinction as the farthest traveler to race this weekend.

11:15
