We’re in the stands and they are packed for a Saturday night. Got here at 230 Friday afternoon and the campground was full.

7:38
Comment From Scott Larson

The crowd this year sounds like the old 400/ASA days in the 70’s & 80’s. On Sunday raceday, you had to park on the side of the highway and walk nearly a mile to the track. Nice to see CRA bring this race back to it’s glory days!!!

7:23
Johnny VanDoorn on spotter duty. (51 Photo)
7:23
Not many drivers would switch rolls after winning the pole for the Winchester 400, but Johnny VanDoorn is pulling spotter duty after have the quick time for the Super Late Models. VanDoorn will start from the outside of the front row as he gets to choose what lane he want. VanDoorn likes the outside for lap tomorrow.
7:18
We wanted to let fans know that if they are coming to the track tomorrow plan on getting here early to get parked. Track officials have told us that the camp ground is beyond full and parking is going to be a bit of a challenge. If you can help out your fellow race fan, race team, and other friends by car pooling to the race track for tomorrow’s Winchester 400.
7:08
Scott Neal has taken the lead away after 20 laps.
7:07
Mark Lambert leads the Sportsman race after 16 laps.
7:06
We checked in with Donnie Wilson who hit the wall on the second lap of his qualifying run and the team said they are ok as long as they can fix the rear-end which might have been bent with the contact with the wall. They are just about the last team working on their car.
6:45
Brian Nester won the Six Man Shootout.
6:37
There is no Winchester 400 last chance race, but we still have the USA Mods Six Man Shootout, the CRA Late Model Sportsman, the 50 lap Modified race, 50 lap CRA Street Stock event, and the 50 lap SuperPro race.

5:24
Winchester 400 pole qualifying is underway!
5:07
Chuck Barnes Jr. was very quick at the All American 400 weekend. He has also been quick here this weekend, but they had to change the clutch after the last practice. He hopes they can get a top 10 run or they will be playing catch up all day tomorrow.
5:06
Rick Turner told Speed51.com in the pits that he has the best car he’s had all season here this weekend. Turner knows that winning the pole would be nice, but making 400 laps is the goal.
5:01
David Stremme is a former winner here and says this is a lot of fun to come back and run this event. This is not the same car he won with a few years back, but he did win at Plymouth in this car last season.
4:58
Comment From Scott Larson

Normally I would pull for Jeff Fultz to win but since he is already running Winchester 400, we need to see someone else win to add another quality car to the field (from Super Pro race).

The Super Pro winner gets a McGunegill Engine Performance motor for the 400. Is that for this years race of next year? Can you list the Super Pro drivers so we can follow that interesting story?

Comment From Gregg

According to a Dennis Prunty crew member, they blew up the motor

2:48
CRA Street Stocks are on the track for practice. We will then have time trials at 3:15.
2:43
Brian Rievley comes into this years race having led 348 laps in the past and he still has not won the 400. Last year was a great year for him as he would have gone to victory lane if not for Kyle Busch. Rievley was second to the cup star.
2:39
As time trials come up later on today at 5pm we look back at some of the past pole winners and the list includes Kenny Wallace, Dick Trickle, David Stremme, Bob Senneker, Mark Martin, Butch Miller, Mike Garvey, Jeff Fultz and several others. Who will it be in 2010?
2:35
Chase Elliott comes into this event having won 11 times in 2010. When you look as his resume you might think he can’t win the big events, but a quick check back shows that he has been knocking on the door all season. He led the Rattler 250 lat in the going, ended up second at the Rowdy’s Revenge 251 and was a runner-up a few weeks back at the All American 400. Elliott could get that first big one this weekend.

2:30
Chris Gabehart has won the last two pole positions for the Winchester 400. Today he has a shot at three, but as a crew chief, if his driver with the Kyle Busch Motorsports team can win the pole here at Winchester. TJ Reaid is the driver and he won the All American 400 Super Late Model portion a few weeks back. They were fast on Labor day and could be a tough car to beat this weekend.

Comment From Jason

How many Super Late-Models will start tomorrow’s Winchester 400 & will there be a need for a last chance race this evening ?

1:42
Johnny VanDoorn leads practice right now over Clay Rogers.
1:39
With the loss of the 42 car of Dennis Prunty that gives us 38 Super Late Models and they will all start the Winchester 400 on Sunday. So there will be no last chance race.
1:38
We had a spin by the 14 of Tommy St. John in turn one. He did not hit anything and kept going.
1:25
Clay Rogers is a Winchester 400 rookie this weekend. Rogers has two Pro Cup wins here and is having fun as he looks to make his first start here tomorrow.

Has Augie Grill ever raced in the Winchester 400…& i assume he is not there for this weekend ??

12:17
Checking in on the SuperPro deal, they have 15 cars here. Jason Dietsch is running both races.
12:15
Tonight’s winner of the SuperPro race will not only get the satisfaction of winner here at Winchester Speedway, but will get a shot at the Winchester 400. McGunegill Engine Performance will loan them a Super Late Model engine to run the Winchester 400. It’s another way to make the show for a SuperPro regular and maybe pull off a huge upset.
12:02
Brian Campbell was third quick in the first round of practice and that’s a bit more then he might have expected. Campbell told Speed51.com at Nashville that he was unsure of his chances this weekend. He looks good right now.
12:00
Clay Rogers is racing this weekend for Gary St. Amant who has won the Winchester 400 twice in the past in 2000 and in 2002. They have gotten things figured out real quick as they have been very quick since they have unloaded.
11:58
We have just been told that there are 43 USA Modifieds here for tonight’s race. They had planned on starting 24, but they are looking to add more.
11:52
We had a brief fire under the hood of Dean Morris’ number 88 in the Sportsman practice. The modifieds are on the track next.

Good morning and welcome to the Winchester 400 weekend here at Winchester Speedway in Indiana. It’s cool morning here in east Indiana as the sun is pushing the morning temps up past the 40’s and into the 50’s. We are just about set to get rolling with Super Late Model practice.
