Finishing order? once again you guys are the best ,,awesome job ..

10:39

Kyle Busch is in the media center talking with 2nd place Cassius Clark and 3rd place Lonnie Sommerville, just shooting the breeze. KB simply isn’t taking and leaving is the point to make here; he’s having a good conversation with Lonnie Sommerville about what it takes to run a chassis business.

10:39

The Kyle Busch Motorsports team has won several races this year in various series and the car has passed technical inspection each time. While Busch had a good car under him tonight, so did Patrick Laperle, Cassius Clark and Joey Pole. It was not a runaway victory.

10:39

Comment From the fan

Cant wait for the Tech results …hmhmhhmmh

We only have a top five at this point until we receive a timing and scoring report from PASS officials.

10:26

More Kyle Busch – “This was a great preliminary race tonight, but we really want to win the 250.”

10:26

Kyle Busch – “It was a great race….I can’t say enough about the guys on the PASS Tour. I love Oxford and it’s great to be back…this was fun…I was really loose and it seemed like you really needed to keep your back tires tonight and I think that will be the key tomorrow too.”

10:24

The crowd response is mostly positive to Kyle Busch’s victory.

10:23

There is no victory burnout. Kyle Busch is doing a low speed victory lap with the checkered flag out his window.

10:22

Comment From chris lesher

yayaya… kb the best

10:21

1. Kyle Busch
2. Cassius Clark
3. Lonnie Sommerville
4. Patrick Laperle
5. Johnny Clark

10:20

Kyle Busch wins.

10:20

White flag – Busch still pulls away.

10:20

Kyle Busch leads Cassius clark, Lonnie Sommerville and Patrick Laperle with two laps to go.

10:20

Kyle Busch is pulling away again with three laps to go.

10:19

Joey Pole ended up restarting in the fourth position after all – once scoring was straightened out.

10:19

Restart – Lap 143 – Cassius Clark noses ahead for a few feet but Kyle Busch led into turn one.

10:18

Joey Pole is now being put to the rear – probably for his contact with Bill Penfold.

10:17

Kyle DeSouza has been waved around and will not start among the leaders.

10:16

Joey Pole is now being scored as third with Patrick Laperle as fourth.

10:16

The lapped car of Kyle DeSouza will be in between second place Cassius Clark and the third place runner, who is now listed as Joey Pole, on the restart.

10:15

Bill Penfold and Brad Babb are pitting.

10:15

They have corrected the scoring and there will only be seven laps to go in this race. We are now working lap 143 under caution.

10:14

It does not appear that Joey Pole will be penalized for his contact with Penfold. Pole was racing hard with Patrick Laperle battling for the third position at the time of the incident.

10:13

Kyle Busch currently leads Cassius Clark, Patrick Laperle, Joey Pole and Lonnie Sommerville.

10:13

Joey Pole, who was running third, made contact with the lapped car of Bill Penfold, who spun in turn one to bring out the caution at lap 142.

10:12

LAP 140 – Ten to go – Kyle Busch by one second and two lapped cas. Pole holding off Laperle for third with Sommerville stalking.

10:11

LAP 138 – Kyle Busch is beginning to really open it up. Only two lapped cars separate him and relatively clean track to the finish.

10:10

Lap 135: Top 10

1. Busch
2. C.Clark
3. Pole
4. Laperle
5. Sommerville.
6. J.Clark
7. B.Rowe
8. M.Rowe
9. Hoar
10. Mulkern

10:10

LAP 134 – Busch puts a second between him and Clark.

10:09

LAP 134 – Kyle Busch has never won a PASS race. He “won” a PASS North at Lee USA a few years ago but was DQed for a tire violation.

10:09

10:09

LAP 130 – Ben Rowe clears father Mike for sixth.

10:05

LAP 118 – Laperle is beginning to fade as he’s under attack by both Clark and Pole

10:05

LAP 115 – BNice start for Lonnie Sommerville has him fifth over J. Clark.

10:04

LAP 114 – Pole reclaims third from C. Clark.

10:04

LAP 112 – GREEN – Kyle Busch clears out of four. New leader.

10:04

Okay, restart in one lap. Same as last. Laperle on the inside, Busch on the outside. Laperle has developed a bit of a push in the last few laps so holding on on the inside might be a tougher task than last time.

10:02

Scott Mulkern has reached 8th. Ben Rowe 10th.

10:02

Pit road busy for some of the lappers. But no one up front hits the pits. Too late now – The bed is made for the rest of the race.

10:01

9:57

9:56

LAP 99 – Laperle maintains the lead at the stripe but not by much.

9:56

9:56

LAP 96 – THREE WIDE FOR THE LEAD. Kyle Busch dives into three and is now side by side with Laperle.

9:55

LAP 95 – Clark passes Gingras on the outside for seventh. Legendre on the outside of KB for second.

LAP 88 – Top-two again pulling away from third through sixth.

9:49

LAP 87 – Laperle seems better in, Busch better out.

9:48

9:47

LAP 81 – Top-five strung together again with sixth place Cassius Clark throwing his name into the ring.

9:47

LAP 80 – Patrick Laperle suddenly has two carlengths on Busch. Biggest lead of the night by anyone. it’s been that close

9:46

LAP 79 – Johnny Clark has not gotten any higher than 8th.

9:46

LAP 76 – One of the identical #14s (Frahm or Tracy Gordon) pits.

Lap 75 – Top Five: Laperle, Busch, Pole, Legendre, M. Rowe.

9:45

LAP 73 – Mike Rowe under Legendre for fourth.

9:45

LAP 71 – Laperle is cutting off Busch in the corners. Something tells me that won’t end well if that keeps up.

9:44

LAP 70 – Busch eating Laperle’s bumper as third thru fifth blocked by lappers.

9:44

LAP 68 – Legendre in fourth and Mike Rowe in fifth have made this a five-car race for the lead.

9:43

LAP 66 – Busch back to second, working on Laperle who has struggled getting by the last few lapped machines.

9:36

LAP 39 – Leaders trying to lap Kirk Thibeau and Alan Wilson now. Field is very spraead out. No clear track anyway.

9:35

LAP 35 – If Kyle Busch loses tonight, it might honestly be due to Matt Matheson. This is the third time he’s lost ground trying to get around Matheson.

9:35

LAP 34 -Johnny Clark trying to get around Mike Rowe for sixth on the outside. But he’s blocked by a lapped car and slips back to Cassius Clark in eighth.

9:34

LAP 30 – Lapped traffic nearly passed through for the leaders.

9:33

LAP 29 – Laperle, Busch and Pole separated from each other by two carlengths as they navigate heavy traffic.

9:22

Is Busch the favorite? Yes, with reason. He came from the back in a hurry to win his qualifying heat. But Patrick Laperle on the outside pole made a similar move in his heat and is definitely one of the drivers who is not going to roll over simply because KB is in the race.

You had better show up early to tomorrow’s TD Bank 250 as the crowd is expected to be large. (Speed51.com Photo)

6:08

Practice is over for Saturday here at OPS.

6:05

Only six cars on track at the moment, including Kyle Busch and Mark Lamberton.

5:59

Comment From J5

they’ve always said there is more practice for the 250 than the daytona 500. I don’t know of many other races that has this much practice before the event.

5:51

While some drivers elected not to make this session, we do see Kyle Busch and Ricky Rolfe, two of the favorites tomorrow, making laps.

5:44

Perhaps the busiest session of the day with 25 or so cars currently making laps.

5:43

Final Oxford 250 practice has begun.

5:36

Joey Laquerre has left the track. He is among those skipping today’s final TD Bank Oxford 250 practice.

5:35

2010 Beech Ridge Motor Speedway (ME) Sports Series champion Chris Smith is making his Late Model debut here this weekend in the yellow #14 that was formerly owned by Joey Lovejoy. Smith’s team had quite a bit of work that they were performing on the rear end of the car after the chassis was binding up in 250 practice earlier this afternoon.

5:34

Bruce Bernhardt, the longtime car owner for the #27NH team of Wayne Helliwell, Jr. told us this afternoon that the team’s Late Model is better than it has ever been here at Oxford and that it handled really well straight off the trailer.

5:33

Comment From Donna in FL

I will be monitoring this race! Good luck everyone!!

5:32

Richie Dearborn is walking around the pit area today. The personable Maine driver was with the PASS North tour since its earliest days and is a proven winner, but he recently retired from driving and is now spending more time with his young family. Dearborn told Speed51.com that he still enjoys watching races and wouldn’t mind “trying something different” in the future….perhaps a Tour-type Modified.

5:31

Bobby Walker is one of the most storied people in the history of Oxford Plains Speedway. He served as the tracks’ announcer and publicist in its early days when Bob Bahre owned the track. Walker had suffered a stroke and hasn’t been in the best of health in recent years, but he still comes out to 250 weekend each season. He’s rolling around in the pit area today in his wheelchair and is really enjoying himself. We asked Walker how many 250s he has been to through the years and he admitted that he’s only missed one running of the race. “The year that Junior (Hanley” won,” said Walker. At the time, Walker was working down South in racing and didn’t get a chance to return home.

5:28

Some drivers like to keep things close to their vest – like in poker. We asked Ben Rowe how his Super Late Model was running earlier this afternoon and he answered with a shrug and the comment, “It’s going around and around in circles like it’s supposed to.”

5:26

Ben Ashline stopped practicing a little bit earlier today. We had an update on how his practice session was going a few hours ago.

5:26

Comment From nascar

Both PASS and TD Bank 250 cars will have one more round of practice today.

5:05

We just checked in at the PASS trailer and we understand their will be four heat races. However the number that comes out of each is not yet know. We will have that for you soon.

4:57

4:56

We have just heard that tech is closed for 250 cars. We know that several teams are done for the day and will sit out the last practice.

4:49

We went looking for Joey Pole only to find that he was not around. We assume he is taking a break before his race tonight.

31 75 Gary Smith 16.217
32 4qc Martin Latulippe N/A

Note: We did see Kyle Busch go out. Not sure why he has no time listed here.

4:25

As some cars load up, others unload. We ran into 1996 Oxford 250 Champion Larry Gelinas who said they just unloaded giving us 74 cars unofficially. There are not a lot of past champions running so he should have a good shot to make the field.

4:12

The top three divisions are done for a little while. We will have more in a few minutes.

4:07

At 4:10pm we will have Mini Stocks and Strictly Streets on the track for the first time today. Both will have features tonight and on Sunday.

Staying cool is proving to be a task this afternoon (51 Photo)

3:48

PASS cars hit the track now. They have just twenty minutes on the track.

3:48

Jimmy Linardy’s team has changed gears on their #77MA Late Model this afternoon.  The personable indepedent driver from Massachusetts told Speed51.com that just getting into the Oxford 250 would be a dream come true.  He’s hoping to carry a bit of a good luck charm along with him to accomplish that as well.  Linardy has a decal ont he side of his car honoring the Stanley Cup winning Boston Bruins hockey team this weekend.  Linardy’s day job is running his own heavy truck repair shop in Sommerville, Massachusetts – just a few miles from the TD Garden where the Bruins play their home games.

3:46

Ben Lynch is running the #7NC Late Model this weekend.  The New Hampshire native has raced regularly at White Mountain Motorsports Park in the past and is now a student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  He is running the #7NC since North Carolina is his current home.  A few members of the 51 crew, Mike Twist and Tim Quievryn are graduates of UNC Charlotte as well….so we can’t help but wonder why Lynch isn’t running the #49 this weekend….since UNC Charlotte sports teams are all known as the 49ers.

3:43

Maine driver Darren Ripley is back on track this weekend.  He hasn’t raced this year at all, only practicing once at Unity Raceway (ME).  Ripley is driving the #70R Late Model and attempting to get into this year’s TD Bank Oxford 250.  He will enjoy support from several crew members of the Benjamin Motorsports #17 PASS North team this weekend.

3:42

Longtime PASS official Rick Shephard has been absent from the tour lately, but will return to the flagstand tonight.  “Shep” is a popular personality in New England racing, having worked with the PASS Tour and Beech Ridge Motor Speedway (ME) for years – along with working on the saefty crews for many tracks.  His day job is as an investigator for the State of Maine fire marshall’s office.

PASS cars have ten minutes til their next practice session as the 250 cars wind down.

3:34

Ben Ashline’s team is one of the team that has packed up early from Oxford 250 Late Model practice.  Like a few other teams, the #15 LM team expects tomorrow’s track to be much different from today’s after rubber from the Modifieds and Super Late Models wears off.  Ashline’s team reports that their car has been “okay” so far today.

PASS stands for Pro All Stars Series – They are Super Late Models like the CRA cars.

3:04

Comment From Eric

Acronym of PASS, what does that stand for? I’m from the MIdwest, are these similar to the CRA Super Series cars?

2:57

Oxford 250 Late Models are now going back on the track for action here in practice. After this hour they will have a 30 minutes session later on today.

2:56

Johnny Clark will be chasing another PASS win here tonight. (Speed51.com Photo)

2:53

We checked in with Sam Sessions and he is having so much fun that he put a bounty out on Keith Rocco so he can drive his car tomorrow. Sessions is just happy to be here this weekend.

2:52

Jacob Dore comes to pit road after lots of smoke. (Speed51.com Photo)

2:48

We checked in with Kyle Busch and the team told us that the 250 is still a work in progress. Busch was among the quicker cars in the Super Late Model session, but is still looking for more in the 25 Late Model.

2:42

Caution in the waning moments of VMRS practice for a spin by #30.

2:38

Modifieds will wrap up their first practice in about ten minutes setting up a 1h:40 session for the TD Bank 250 cars.

2:38

Gary Smith (51 Photo)

2:37

Goodyear tells Speed51.com that 68-70 TD Bank 250 teams have taken tires. Remember that Eddie Mac is not among them, so it looks like the prelim count we made might still be missing three or four cars.

It’s going to be a wild day tomorrow. If you can’t take in this spectacle of stock car racing in person, we encourage you to tune in to Speed51.com as we cover the day’s events on Trackside Now starting at about noon.

2:35

Brent Dragon, one of the favorites for this year’s TD Bank Oxford 250, has just packed up and left the track. His Avery Motorsports team went through technical inspection today (and passed on the first try) and picked out there tires, but they did not take a lap of practice. Dragon points out the fact that tomorrow will be about 20 cooler and that there won’t be SLM and Modified rubber on the track for very long in the morning. So they didn’t want to dial themselves out of the ballpark by practicing too much and making too many adjustments today.

Comment From Josh Arbeau

where are lap times avail,or will you post them later?

2:29

Crew thinking it might just be an oil line.

2:29

Oil is pouring out of the headers.

2:28

Jacob Dore’s #05 just erupted in smoke.

2:26

ACT Late Model regular Brad Babb is running both the PASS North and Oxford 250 races this weekend. He’s run a few ACT races here at Oxford, but never raced a SLM at the track – despite being a former SLM regular at nearby Beech Ridge Motor Speedway (ME). Babb reports that Oxford drives a lot like Beech Ridge with his SLM, but that getting used to the Hoosier tires has been quite an adjustment.

2:24

Comment From Josh Arbeau

Good Luck to Lonnie Sommerville in the race tonight! From your fans at speedway 660

2:24

Modified Racing Series practice is now starting.

2:23

Former Modified Racing Series champion and current point leader Chris Pasteryak is impressed with the car count for the TD Bank 250. “Wow! There are a lot of Late Models here, aren’t there?” he said to Speed51.com.

2:23

Oxford 250 entrant Derek Kneeland will be spotting for Cassius Clark in tonight’s PASS North race.

2:22

Gary Smith admits to struggling in the PASS North practice that just ended, but he also tells Speed51.com that his #75 team has some ideas on how to fix the issues with his car.

2:21

There is a Jeff Fultz Racing decal on the #89 Late Model of Derek Kneeland this weekend. Kneeland is an employee of the team during the week and Fultz has been giving him plenty of advice to prepare for the race.

2:20

PASS North practice has just wrapped up.

2:20

Gary Smith is still on cloud nine after winning the recent PASS North event at Lee USA Speedway (NH). He’ll be racing tonight and staying over for tomorrow’s TD Bank 250 as a fan. Why? Because he is cheering on friend and car builder Jeff Taylor – a multi-time track champion here at Oxford. Smith thinks that Taylor has his best chance ever to win the 250 and really wants to see him win the race this year.

2:18

Tommy Stilphen hopes to make his PASS North debut tonight. Stilphen is a very successful Maine kart driver and will be driving the #70 SLM.

2:17

There are 18 MRS Modifieds here today.

2:17

Comment From Richard H.

Do you have a head count on how many modified’s there are ?

2:17

The roster is unofficial as PASS has not released an official entry list – but we can tell you that David Oliver has been here practicing his Super Late Model today. He is parked next to the Kyle Busch Motorsports team. Oliver and Busch share sponsorship from Hood (a popular milk and ice cream brand in New England) and Helluva Good Cheese.

2:17

Comment From jason

You don’t have #21 David Oliver on the SLM roster

2:15

No, Peltier wrecked his car in Thursday’s PASS National SLM race at Thompson International Speedway (CT).

2:15

Comment From Eric Lantz

I just got on here so I may have missed it…but is #26 Peltier there??

2:15

We asked former Oxford track champion Tracy Gordon, who is making a bit of a comeback in the PASS North race today, what it is like to be back racing at Oxford. “I’ll tell ya at the end of the night!” was his response. It appears that all is going well int he #14 camp though. Gordon is running a team car to the #14F of Matt Frahm in tonight’s race.

2:13

The caution is out in PASS North practice for a spin by Martin Latulippe – who did not hit anything.

2:12

D.J. Shaw has raced at Oxford plenty of times in his young career, but this weekend he is competing in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East event at Columbus Motor Speedway (OH). Shaw is planning to drive back with his family overnight tonight so they can be in the pits here at the 250 tomorrow. DJ’s father Dale Shaw has built many of the Late Models entered, including the one that Kyle Busch is driving in the 250.

2:08

Former Modified Racing Series race winner Tony Ricci is here today after taking over a year off from the tour. Ricci has a brand new flat black #4 Troyer Modified and thinks it will be very quick around Oxford. Ricci’s day job is working in the shop of Scott and Vicki Mulkern. The Mulkerns field a PASS North entry for Lonnie Sommerville full-time and Scott himself on a part time basis.

2:07

Former Modified Racing Series champion, and former MRS race winner at Oxford, Jon McKennedy is sporting a different look this weekend. McKennedy blew the engine in his regular #73 last weekend in Ricky’s Race at Canaan Fair Speedway (NH), so tonight he is driving a red Modified owned by Rob Wilcox that has been renumbered with the #73. McKennedy has driven that same car in weekly competition at Star Speedway (NH) and won with it.

2:05

There are currently 20 Super Late Models on the track for PASS North practice.

2:05

PASS Modified point leader Andy Shaw is here today helping out the PASS North SLM teams of Matt Matheson and Kevin Roberge. Shaw drove Roberge’s #16 SLM in practice last night to help shake it down at this track. Years ago, Shaw was a regular in the Pro Stock (Super Late Model) weekly division here at Oxford.

2:03

The #2 of Matt Matheson has just spun, bringing out the yellow in PASS North practice. He did not hit anything and the track is now going back to green.

2:03

Aaron Ricker was practicing the #59 Late Model for the TD Bank 250 earlier today, but he’ll be leaving the track shortly to head down to Beech Ridge Motor Speedway (ME), where he’ll be running his Pro Series (Super Late Model) car later tonight. Ricker is a regular in that division at The Ridge. His crew chief is someone familar to SLM teams both in the north and south – Jason Ricker, who is unrelated despite sharing the same last name.

Practice is green for the PASS Super Late Models.

1:58

1:58

That does it for the first Oxford 250 practice. The PASS Super Late Models are up next.

1:53

I believe that every car picked up a transponder going through inspection, yes.

1:53

Comment From RacinNasonFan

They must have transponders on the PASS cars now i’m guessing?

1:50

Ten minutes before the TD Bank 250 cars head off the track and the PASS cars head on.

1:50

No, and we may not get them anytime soon if at all I’m afraid. OPS Practice day tends to be a ‘dial a car’ in sort of deal versus a ‘see where you stack up’. That’s usually what you do in the heats.

1:49

Comment From J5

Any kind of lap times available yet?

1:49

One of the advantages of sitting with the good folks from Racing Electronics is getting to see all the teams come through looking to get ready to race. Here, a team member works on Patrick Laperle’s helmet (51 Photo)

1:47

Yes indeed. Eddie Mac would tie history, but not necessarily break it.

1:46

Comment From RacinNasonFan

Just wanted to point out that history has already been made with 3 in a row by “Racin” Ralph Nason.

1:44

Just as we said that Eddie Mac is quick so far in the second practice.

1:42

The man who has won the last two TD Bank 250’s is not here today. Eddie MacDonald is in Columbus for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East event as was 15th in the first round of practice. MacDonald will be here tomorrow as he looks to make history and win three in a row at OPS.

We have a little under an hour remaining in this practice.

SK Modified standout Keith Rocco will drive this car here tomorrow. (Speed51.com Photo)

12:57

Patrick Laperle is on the Speedway for the first time today.

12:53

From our view Brian Hoar has a very smooth looking car. Also Joey Pole is on the track for the first time this weekend.

12:49

Brian Hoar is also on the track for the first time today.

12:48

Kyle Busch and Ricky Rolfe are two of the dozen or so cars on the track right now.

12:44

Brad Leighton has hit the track for the first time after his heart breaker here last year. He led the most laps and had a flat tire late ending his shot at victory.

12:43

We want to thank our friends at Racing Electronic for providing our pit side location this weekend. If you see us walking around in the pits feel free to say hello.

12:39

Alan Wilson took his blue number 53 mod to victory lane last night. Tonight he will try it with his SLM. (Speed51.com Photo)

12:38

An early report on the Modified Racing Series finds a dozen cars in the pits for them, however they don’t get the track for a while so they will draw more before then.

12:37

We also have a PASS Super Late Model list we will share with you in a bit. We are still tracking down some of the names.

12:36

The basic answer is tires, engines and shocks to start, but you will find the rules can change from one track to the next.

12:36

Comment From Brendan

What are the differences between late, pro late, and super late models?

12:31

We could only find 65 cars in the pits when we walked around, but with cars coming and going to tech and still coming to the track it’s hard to get a solid list until the draw on Sunday.

12:26

The track is now hot for the Oxford 250 cars.

12:04

At the noon hour, we have thirty minutes til first Oxford 250 practice. It’s going to be a hot one here today with highs around 97 degrees. Tonight will probably be mid-70s if last night was any indication with a high of 80 for the Oxford 250 race Sunday.

11:59

One driver here is celebrating his birthday today – the #20 of Steven Legendre. We wish him a happy birthday.

11:54

Other PASS cars not here last night have rolled in. Ones that stood out to use were the #97 of Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. and the #7 of Donnie Whitten. We also expect #75 Gary Smith to roll in soon, fresh off his breakthrough win at Lee last week.

The PASS Super Late Model count is in the high 30’s with expectations above the 40 mark. The Modifieds are slowly working there way into the speedway.

11:12

Already this morning we have over 100 Late Models in the pits. Out first 250 car count had us at 69. That does not include trailers that are not open and a few cars we know that are not here yet.
