According to track operator Kevin Piercy, one car broke a motor in practice yesterday here at Hickory and was unable to return today.  That car was driven by Tennesee’s Blake Jones.

Piercy also noted that Pro Cup winner and past UARA-STARS Late Model champion Coleman Pressley also had intentions of running this race today, but couldn’t get his car ready in time.

NASCAR K&N Pro Series East rookie competitor Brodie Kostecki is back in a Late Model, the same car that he cut his racing teeth with over the past few years since moving to the States from his native Australia.

Kostecki and his team worked through the night preparing this Late Model for action today.  The 16-year-old finished in the top four in both of his Late Model appearances at Hickory last year, including a fourth-place result in the Isaac Memorial.

Former Late Model regular Jake Engle is calling the shots for Kostecki in his effort today and Corey LaJoie, Koestecki’s crew chief on the K&N East side, will be here later to led his expertise as well.

Also, we at Speed51.com extend our condolences and prayters to the family and friends of Don Tilley, who passed away last evening as a result of a motorcycle crash, according to track officials.  Mr. Tilley was the founder of Tilley Harley-Davidson in nearby Statesville, North Carolina.  He was a longtime supporter of many charities throughout the Southeast and beyond as well as of his grandson Chandler LeVan’s racing career.

LeVan was entered into today’s race, but the team came to the track early this morning and pulled their rig out from the infield so that the entire Tilley/LeVan family can be together at this difficult time.

Mr. Tilley’s wife, Robinette, was injured in the accident.  We at 51 and everyone at the track today extend prayers to her as well.
