Until tomorrow morning, good night from Caraway.
Again, there’s U-Car feature racing tonight, so come on down to Caraway and be sure to pick up your tickets for the Friday and Saturday action of the North-South Shootout.
Speed51.com will be live with Trackside Now coverage of more practice plus qualifying events and more from here at Caraway beginning at 10am ET Friday.
That will conclude tonight’s Trackside Now coverage. Thanks to the folks at Draco Springs for their support of the entire weekend’s live coverage here from the 11th Annual North-South Shootout.

When Modified practice is complete at 6pm, our Speed51.com Trackside Now coverage will end as well. A good field of U-Cars has assembled here at the track and they will have a feature event later tonight. Come on down to the track for all the action of the U-Cars!

Matt Hirschman had one run today on the track in his car and the team has now loaded up for the day. The team will be back tomorrow looking to continue the quest for a fifth win here at the North-South Shootout. We noticed Tommy Barrett’s No. 9 Modified go out for a few laps earlier in the day, but officials told 51 that it was actually Hirschman behind the wheel to shake it down in anticipation for Barrett’s arrival later.
Cole Powell confirmed to Speed51.com that he will be back to chase the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship in 2014. Powell also said that he is working on the possibility of a couple NASCAR Nationwide Series events next season, as well as select ARCA events. The 2013 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Rookie of the Year is racing his WMT No. 73 car with a NASCAR SPEC engine in it this weekend. Powell said he did a lot of R&D with the SPEC engine at Roush-Yates Engines in North Carolina this past week to help keep the engine cool, which has been an issue for them in past races.
Ron Silk (Speed51.com photo)
Today’s practice session has been all about “trying stuff” for Ron Silk. The Norwalk, Connecticut native has never competed in a North-South Shootout here at Caraway, but has competed in the event when it was at Concord and has also raced here in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour with the No. 79 Hillbilly Racing team.

Silk said after this most recent practice that the crew has been trying some different things with the setup, but admitted that he and the crew won’t get “down to business until tomorrow.”

U-Cars will be out next for their final practice.

Down in the pit area, David Hill is working on the No. 73 Modified of Cole Powell this weekend.  Hill’s family team, Hill Racing Enterprises, recently decided not to compete on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour in 2014 unless sponsorship or funding could be found.  The team, nicknamed “Hillbilly Racing,” is currently owned by David’s mother Sandra following the passing of team patriarch Roger Hill in 2012.

Hill told Speed51.com that the team is still entertaining inquiries for sponsorship, but to this point not much has changed in the Hill No. 79 stable for 2014.
