Race Procedures.

- In the race, yellow flag laps will not count. Each car must pit between laps 20 and 100. They do not necessarily need to add tires or fuel during this pit stop, simply jack the car up and release it to meet the pit requirements.

- It is a six-tire race, meaning the cars will start on their four qualifying tires and two additional tires can be in the pit box.

- Teams can add fuel but can not add fuel and change tires at the same time. If teams are making a tire change, they must finish the tire change, throw the equipment back over the wall, and then change fuel.

- Lapped cars will restart at the rear

- The flagman will call the initial start. The restarts will be determined inside a restart box when the leader fires. If the leader does not fire by the second line of the box, the green flag will wave.

- The leader has lane choice on restarts

- The penalty for an unapproved tire change is one lap. That lap can not be given back by a free pass. Free passes will go to the highest-scored lap-down car in the running order. The free pass will be given electronically instead of the car passing the pace car.

- Pit road speed is 20 MPH.

- Drivers must commit to pit by taking the access road in Turn Three.

2:32
The North-South Shootout continues to be run in honor of two of the men responsible for bringing it to a widespread audience. Event founder Charles Kepley was lost several years ago after seeing the North-South Shootout develop into one of the premier short track events in the country. It became a place for Modified stars from the North and South to battle one another in a common place and made drivers like John Blewett III a bona fide racing star. Blewett won this event in 2003 and 2005 before he was lost in 2007. The memory of both men continues on with the legacy of the North-South Shootout.

Many in the Modified pit area, especially those involved in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour, are competing here this weekend with heavy hearts. Austin Doub lost a long health battle earlier this week at the age of 18, but his memory is carried on by many here at Caraway this weekend. Doub was a close friend of George Brunnhoelzl, III's, who is carrying Doub's name on the front of his No. 28 Modified. The staff of Speed51.com joins many in the local racing community in offering thoughts and prayers to Doub's family and friends.

Driver's Meeting Notes

- In the race, yellow flag laps will not count. Each car must pit between laps 20 and 100. It is a six-tire race, meaning the cars will start on their four qualifying tires and two additional tires can be in the pit box.

- Unlike last year's North-South Shootout, fuel can be added in the pits. That news came to the pleasure of Jason Myers in yesterday's drivers' meeting, who was in contention for the win last year before running out of fuel. The fuel just can not be added at the same time as a tire change.

12:23
No, last year's North-South Shootout winner Ryan Preece is not in attendance this year.

Just as Modified practice concluded, Matt Hirschman walked across the track to the infield. He wasn't even in the pits for that session. Hirschman said he watched final practice from the hill outside turn three. "We know we'll be competitive in the race," said Hirschman. "It's going to come down to strategy and being in the right place at the right time and those aren't things more practice will help with."
