Good night from Caraway.
10:06

10:06
10:05
We appreciate all of you for tuning in tonight. Thanks again to Pro Shocks (www.proshocks.com) for their support of tonight’s coverage.
10:05
That will conclude tonight’s Speed51.com Trackside Now coverage from Caraway.
10:02
Dan Moore has won the 100-lap NWAAS Late Model race over Robert Tyler and Ryan Wilson.
9:59
10 laps to go for Moore.
9:48
Halfway, lap 50 of LMSC race. Dan Moore leads Robert Tyler and Mike Darne. Ryan Wilson is fourth, Mack Little is fifth and Pete Stewart is sixth. That’s all the cars on the track.
9:39
The rain has stopped and the 100-lap Late Model race is back underway. We’ll probably update periodically from this race as we get ready to end our coverage here tonight.
9:29

It began sprinking during NWSMT victory lane, as we mentioned. It has turned into a full-blown shower at this point, 29 laps into the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car feature here at Caraway. Mack Little, III leads under this rain delay.

9:04
We will provide an unofficial finish once one can be provided to us in the infield. We got stuck downstairs as a few sprinkles began falling during the NWSMT victory lane ceremonies, forcing the track to put the 100 lap Late Model race on the track in a hurry.
9:02
There were some elevated tempers in the pits after the race between Burt Myers and Frank Fleming crews. Nothing escalated, however, beyond some shouts. Ironically, the two are parked next to each other in the infield.
8:46
The Burt Myers penalty moves his brother Jason to third.
8:44
We’re headed downstairs for post-race coverage. More to follow.
8:44
Myers will be penalized to the tail end of the lead lap for rough driving.
8:43
CHECKERED FLAG: George Brunnhoelzl has won over LW Miller. Burt Myers got into Frank Fleming in turn three on the last lap and will finish third. Jason Myers fourth and Kyle Ebersole fifth, unofficially.

8:42
This will be our final attempt at a green-white-checkered restart.
8:42
Bohn comes to pit road with left-front damage.
8:41
Loftin has a flat left-rear tire. It appeared to be a chain reaction with a lot of cars hitting front bumpers to rears and Loftin was the one who got the worst of the wear.
8:41
YELLOW FLAG: Loftin spun in turn one
8:40
GREEN FLAG Lap 154 (GWC attempt #2): Brunnhoelzl and Miller enter turn one side by side, but Loftin spins in turn one behind them.

Well, after tonight’s race, the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will go on a “Summer Vacation” until their next race on Friday, July 6th here at Caraway. Perhaps that has something to do with it?

Many of these teams will be competing on a weekly basis at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC beginning next Saturday night during that Summer stretch.

7:17
Comment From austin

sounds like alot of beating and banging going on tonight

7:16
According to Seuss’ Twitter, the 11 car suffered a flat tire, causing him to dart into the wall.
7:15
The field will now go under RED FLAG conditions as they get Seuss’ car off the track.
7:15
Mike Norman will be penalized a lap for pulling up to the pace car to pit. That is not allowed. Cars are to stay in line until they get to the pit entrance.
7:15
Seuss’ car will actually have to be attached to two wreckers hammock-style.
7:14
Seuss’ car is being attached to a wrecker. He is out of the car and okay.
7:12
YELLOW FLAG Lap 26: Andy Seuss has turned around in turn four and his No. 11 has backed into the outside wall. It appears that something may have broken beneath that car to send him into the wall according to observers in the press box.
7:11
GREEN FLAG: Another good start for GBIII as Loftin nown has his hands full of Bohn for second.
7:11
There seems to be a right-rear suspension adjustment going on to Hemric’s car. He just made it out of the pits before the green flew.
7:10
Daniel Hemric has taken his car to the attention of his crew on pit road. After a quick stop, he came back out only to come back in.
7:10
Dauzat was eligible for the Free Pass, but has been penalized for the contact and will not receive that award.

Now, as we mentioned before the race, this event will have a halfway break. The caution will fly at the halfway point and the cars will come to pit road. The field will be separated into thirds as they run on the track. The first group will have three minutes to make adjustments and swap tires, if they so choose. No tires can be changed, but fronts can be swapped for rears, lefts for rights, etc.. Then, after three minutes, the teams from the first group must back away and work will begin on the second group of cars. Then, the third group will follow. The race will then restart as they ran at the time of the caution.
7:04
YELLOW FLAG Lap 9: Bryan Dauzat spins in turn four. He is nosed up on the curb that separates the pit entrance from the racetrack.
7:03
Lap 8: Single file through the pack, but everyone’s bumper-to-bumper.
7:03
Lap 6: Frank Fleming goes for second on Bohn into turn three, but Bohn slams the door.
7:02
Lap 5: Ebersole has taken fourth from Burt Myers, who has lost even more spots to Loftin and LW Miller.
7:02
Lap 2: Gary Fountain spins by himself at the back of the pack, but continues on without a cation.

7:01
GREEN FLAG: Brunnhoelzl gets a good jump as Bohn tucks in to second.
7:00
This race, like the first three races this year, will have a halfway break. We’ll have more on that shortly.
7:00
Pace laps are complete. One lap to green.
7:00
In your stead, Chris Fleming, a Bowman-Gray competitor and brother to Frank Fleming, gave our invocation and did a great job.

The autograph session is complete and the drivers have been called into their cars. Driver intros will take place in just a moment with the drivers strapped in. The National Anthem and invocation will follow, with the 150-lap feature going green at 7pm sharp.
6:47
Tim Brown, who has been bad-fast all season long yet still has not won a race this year, told us that he only worried about setting up his Hayes Jewelers No. 83 for the race today. He didn’t worry about a qualifying set up at all, instead hoping to change his luck. He was fast in the first race, only to have a battery issue. He cut a tire while battling at the front of the field in the second race of the year. Last week, Brown finished 11th after more bad luck. He hopes to turn that luck around here today.
6:44
Andy Seuss, a six-time NWSMT winner at Caraway, qualified an uncharacteristic 17th today.

Why?

“I have no idea,” said Seuss in the autograph session. “The car was so tight in the first lap that I was just barely hanging on. On the second lap, it was so loose I thought I was spinning out.”

Comment From AJ

Watch out for Kyle Ebersole as well. He had a nice top 5 finish at South Boston, and I’ve seen him win at Mountain Speedway and run very competitively in the Race of Champions series. Although I’ve never met the guy, I’ll be pulling for him since his hometown (Hummelstown, PA) is about a half hour from me.

6:10
Starting positions of 2012 winners thus far:
Race 1 (Caraway) – Brunnhoelzl – 1st
Race 2 (Caraway) – Loftin – 3rd
Race 3 (South Boston) – Ward – 7th

I think the winner will come from the first 2 rows

Great point. Indeed they have. Twenty-two cars here tonight, there were 27 last week at South Boston, and 22 and 24 in the first two races at Caraway this year. Plus, to date, there has yet to be a repeat winner.

Again, tonight’s NWSMT race will be run first at 7pm tonight. The race was scheduled to go off at 8, but potential rain showers in the forecast forced the schedule shift. Luckily, the showers seem to be breaking up far before they get here and the sun is still brightly shining here at Caraway.

Smith’s #25 car here today is the car that he is planning to compete with in the Modified events at Bowman-Gray Stadium (NC) this Summer. His primary #25 car has been having some engine issues. Smith is hoping to get out of tonight’s race in goo

I say watch out for that #65 of Danny Bohn 3 strong runs to start the season and now he is having a great day at Caraway, also P.2 to start the race, I think he has the best chance to win tonight.

Daniel Hemric has been putting some serious miles in on the Interstate highways of America lately and will continue to do so this weekend. Last Sunday, Hemric competed in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event at Thompson International Speedway (CT) with his Hillbilly Racing No. 79 team. Hemric got up into the top-10 early before some bad luck kept him out of contention. After returning to the team’s North Carolina shop on Monday, they began prepping a car for today’s NWSMT race here at Caraway.

Immediately after tonight’s race, Hemric will get in a car and make the overnight drive up to Plymouth Speedway in Indiana for tomorrow’s JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Late Model event. Speed51.com will have live Trackside Now coverage and a Speed 51 Radio broadcast of the Plymouth race on Sunday.

Then, Hemric and his team will travel to Stafford, Connecticut, for next weekend’s Spring Sizzler NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event.

Speed51.com has staff at the PASS event and will have in-depth coverage next week.

Thanks for tuning in to our NASCAR Home Tracks Radio broadcast last week from South Boston Speedway (VA). We’ve got two weeks off from NASCAR Radio, but will be back on May 5th with the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race broadcast from Stockton 99 Speedway in California.

Corey LaJoie is running the Roush-Yates Engines spec motor that has been introduced in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series in his Modified here today. It’s a bit of an R&D effort on this engine. According to the team, the K&N Spec motor is about 10 horsepower less than most of the other built engines on the Whelen Southern Mod Tour, but there is an 80-pound weight break with their motor.

LaJoie was only 19th quickest in first practice as he fought an extremely tight racecar, but improved to second-quick in second practice.

We will have complete practice results momentarily, once provided to us by timing and scoring officials.
4:01
Practice is now complete.  George Brunnhoelzl, III was quickest with a lap of 15.634.  That lap is currently under the all-time NWSMT track qualifying record set here just two weeks ago by Tim Brown at 15.664.
3:36
Second practice has begun. We got stuck in the infield between practices, but we will have results from both sessions following round two.
3:15
The caution has just flown for a solo spin by Michael Speeney in turn two. He didn’t hit anything and drove back to the pits. There are about 10 minutes left in first practice.
