11:34
Who do you like in the Daytona 500 tomorrow?
11:34
Speed 51’s crew now debating if we should go ahead and drive the ten miles to the Daytona 500 as soon as this race is over. Might beat the traffic.
11:32
Been told Travis Swaim will be sent to the rear for causing the caution.
11:30
Sergi, who was caught up, has gone up to both Powell’s car and Swaim’s car under the red in turn four. We think Cole Powell told Sergi that he got dumped and went to go talk to Swaim. Sergi is now escorted from the premises by track officials.Weaver’s car still on his drivers’ side.
11:30
The latest wreck off turn four.
11:28
RESTART CAUTION – Powell loops it on the restart. Powell gets away but Matt Montineri crashes and David Weaver ends up at a ninety degree angle on his drivers door.
11:27
Same as Montineri, probably going to get a top-ten despite being in five crashes if he can keep it in one piece.
11:27
Comment From The Mazz Family

Is Mazzagatti still in the race?

11:26
Claiming the most hardware this championship evening – the wrecker
11:25
He’s not only out there, he’s probably going to be a top-ten finisher.
11:25
Comment From JB44

Is Montineri still in it?

11:24
Just like the NASCAR Sprint Cup last year: tiebreakers. We’d assume wins first then seconds and thirds, et.c, etc.,
11:24
Comment From Guest

What happens in the event of a tie

11:24
Bruce Bennett after a hard hit.
11:23
Yes, John Nutley will finish 19th tonight. He was taken out on the lap 17 melee on the backstretch
11:23
Comment From brat

is nutley out of the race?

11:23
Bennett is okay, so is the track photographers who probably soiled some undergarments as it slammed the wall directly in front of where they were shooting.
11:22
LAP 39 – CAUTION – Bruce Bennett SLAMS the inside frontstretch wall.
11:21
LAP 37 – Powell to second past Swaim. Stroup is now fourth and barely clings to his points lead.
11:21
RESTART – Brannon gets away while Bennett nearly crashes Jacob in a three-wide move in Turn One.
11:21
Comment From Guest

11:21
Comment From Guest

Dont piss off the “dirty 38”

11:20
Hooker on the – er – hook
11:20
A black flag is very different than a DQ. A DQ is a post-race issue that will take away points. A black flag is an in-race infraction that a driver is allowed to recover from.
11:19
Comment From Guest

Can a black-flagged car still get points?

11:18
Hooker throws a spring at Hermiller’s windshield as Hermiller drove off pit road. Time has only seemed to make the Canadian Hooker more angry.
11:18
About 11 and a half.
11:18
Comment From Guest

How many cars are still in the race?

11:17
Comment From Guest

Poor mike! Let him race! This isn’t the crash up derby!

11:17
Hermiller will stop on pit road as he was going to be in the back anyway.
11:16
Fourteen laps to go.
11:16
He ackwnowledged the black flag under the next caution by dropping to the rear.
11:16
Comment From Guest

How can 47 still be out there after he has been black flagged.

11:15
Hermiller will be sent to the back. Mike Mazzagatti pits with some damage after his fifth incident of the evening.
11:15
Hooker approaches Hermiller’s car as he walks down the banking. Gives him a few gestures of displeasure.
11:14
Hooker’s car comes to rest in Turn One. It is pretty destroyed. The driver is okay though.
11:14
Matt Montineri also got some damage in that scrape-up.
11:13
LAP 36 – CAUTION – A frustrated Hermiller dumps Hooker into Turn One.
11:13
LAP 35 – Swaim had just made a run on Brannon but no dice. He settles in two carlengths behind Brannon
11:13
LAP 34 – Stroup passes Hermiller but Hermiller gives the chrome horn back after being none too pleased with the contact it took Stroup to get past.
11:12
LAP 33 – Stroup to sixth and pressures with the front bumper Mr. Hermiller.
11:11
LAP 31 – First battle is between Powell and Hermiller for fourth.
11:11
RESTART – Brannon another terrific restart. Swaim settles in second.
11:10
If the race were to end right now, Stroup would have a 2 point cushion on Powell for the Pro Late Model World Series title.
11:10
LAP 30 – RUNNING ORDER under CAUTION:1 Drew Brannon
2 Travis Swaim
3 Anthony Sergi
4 Brandon Hermiller
5 Cole Powell6 Bruce Bennett
7 Dakota Stroup
8 Mason Mitchell
9 Doug Sommers
10 David Weaver

Also on the lead lap but unclear exactly where running: Montineri, Mazzagatti, Marc Jacobs, and Kirk Hooker.

11:08
LAP 30 – CAUTION – Matt Montineri spun while racing for 10th with Hooker. Dowler also had a tire let go right there and slammed the outside Turn 2 wall.
11:07
LAP 29 – Powell powers around Bennett for fifth.
11:07
LAP 27 – Stroup past Sommers for 7th, stalking point rival Powell
11:06
LAP 26 – HALFWAY – Drew Brannon holding off Swaim narrowly. Sergi comfortably in third and a mile back to fourth and the rest of the pack.
11:06
LAP 25 – Getting dicey from 5th to 11th. Hermiller holding up the pack.
11:05
Comment From Kevin

It is conceivable that Powell can win the points and bring the championship back to Canada

11:05
LAP 23 – Stroup back up to 10th, back into the points lead unofficially.
11:05
LAP 22 – Bruce Bennett having his best run thus far of Speedweeks, trying to take 4th from Hermiller.
11:04
LAP 20 – Powell with a bold three-wide move to take 9th.
11:04
LAP 20 – Brannon gets away from Swaim on the restart
11:04
Brannon will choose the outside, Swaim on the inside
11:03

11:03
Comment From Jake Hooker

How many cars are still in the Pro Late’s race?

11:03
One to go, doubling up.
11:03
If Stroup does acknowledge the black (which he now is), Sergi will take the points lead by a little bit (3rd)
11:03
Stroup has yet to acknowledge the black flag. He will have to drop to the back of the pack.
11:02
CAUTION – LAP 19 – Mike Mazzaggati spun by Noel Dowler in Turn One. Spin Number Four for the #87
11:01
BLACK FLAG – The #47 of Dakota Stroup will be BLACK FLAGGED for lining up incorrectly for the restart. We heard race control warning him for the entire lap before the green.

10:54
RED
10:54
Watson damage
10:54
Gressel probably got the worst of it, nosing his hood into the outside frontstretch
10:53
CAUTION – Sadly, as we say that, Powell and Gressel crash and take five cars with them on the backstretch. Brandon Hermiller, John Nutley, and Brandon Watson all with damage.
10:52
RESTART – Brannon gone on the restart and Swaim will take second from Stroup. Andrew Gressel alongside Powell for fourth in what is easily his best run of the week.

10:49
LAP 16 – CAUTION – Mike Mazzagatti spun around for the third time tonight.
10:49
LAP 15 – Brannon, Stroup, Powell, Swaim, and Sergi. Mason Mitchell running well and up to sixth.

RESTART – Brannon gets the good restart, Powell tried to take second but Stroup shuts the door.
10:48
Comment From brad

unlucky lap 13

10:48
The race official tonight is the highly-respected Glenn Luckett of the CRA. Like a lot of other Midwest series, the CRA has a rule that if you are clearly the cause of a caution, you will be sent to the rear of the field along with the car that actually spun or wrecked. If the contact that started the caution is deemed incidental, no penalty.
10:47
Comment From Junior99

Thanks to the 51 crew for all there great work these past 12 days

10:46
Yet, he will need a hook, Taylor will.Been told Gary Padula will be sent to the rear for causing the caution.
10:45
CAUTION on the RESTART – Spencer Taylor, having a solid lone night of Speedweeks, spun into the inside frontstretch wall. Minimal damage.
10:45
One to go to the green. 37 to go. Brannon chooses the outside and Stroup to the inside.
10:44
Matt Prieur is reporting that Dakota Stroup may have gotten jacked up on that restart and has some sort of possible tire rub
10:44
Hooker will have to go to the rear for causing the caution, will have to go back to about 18th or 19th
10:43
Some sort of mechanical issue, he is five laps down and is no longer on the track.
10:43
Comment From gourmet

What happened to the 05?

The great irony in Benjamin’s title is that he was not supposed to run for the title. The first night of racing was rained out and his team arrived in time for the second night, started at the rear and finished 6th. The rest, as they say, is history.

Shoes tend to come in pairs and these two both have the same nickname. Hotshoe as they are both known met a few years back and now Daniel Hemric and Gary Balough are the past and future of the nickname. Balough is of course a two-time Derby Champi

amazing job all week Speed51 crew! I also must agree, what you guys do for short track racing is HUGE! alot of us would never get the chance to hear about young up and coming drivers if it werent for your coverage.

Late last night we got a report that there was a protest filed in the SK Modified division. The claim came from the Zacharias team on the 12 of Rob Schultz who won the race. They wanted to see the crank on the engine, but the protest was denied. The Zacharias team was told they were not allowed to protest as they were not on the lead lap. The question then came up about if he was down a lap in the SK portion. The track ruled that their decision would stand and no protest would be allowed. We spoke with the Zacharias team who brought three cars down here to race and ended up only running two because of the short fields. Hopefully they will be back for 2013.

Last night there were several issues in Super Late Model tech with the nose pieces not meeting the required length. Several teams where saying the reason was for the consecutive races over the week, while others say that the pit area is full of pot holes and elevation changes that knock the noses up. We checked in with Ricky Brooks who said there would be no tolerance allowed prior to the race and that all teams needed to meet the requirements. After the race there will be an allowance for crash damage. We will see if there are any fireworks after time trials.

We at Speed51.com get a ton of emails, tweets and Facebook messages asking for some publicity for drivers, series and tracks. Much of the news-worthy stuff ends up on one of our outlets. Sometimes, we do take their advice and make them a feature story or do something cool to promote what they have going on.Now, we want to step up our coverage and publicity for drivers throughout North America to continue bringing fans the most comprehensive short track racing coverage on the web.To do that, we need your help for two new areas of Speed51.com.
