A track official was struck and killed during Saturday night’s racing program at Owosso Speedway in Michigan. Mike Niebrzydowski, a long-time employee at the track, was standing on the racing surface attempting to slow down race cars on the track during a caution when he was struck.
According to Michigan State Police, the accident at the track happened just after 12 a.m. on Sunday morning.
ABC12 in Michigan reported that Niebrzydowski was flown to a local hospital in Lansing, Michigan where he was pronounced dead.
Niebrzydowski was an official at many different race tracks and worked for multiple touring series during his lifetime. Owosso Speedway released the following statement on their Facebook page:
“Owosso Speedway is deeply saddened by the loss of Mike Niebrzydowski. Mike has been a prominent member of the racing community for years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all friends and family members. May he rest in peace with our Lord and Savior.”
