It almost felt like summer this past weekend for short track racing fans.  Although some areas of the country are still covered in snow, racing was taking place on dirt and pavement in many different regions.

1. Burton Slithers By Choquette in Final Turn to Win Rattler

Harrison Burton did what he needed to do to win the 42nd Annual Rattler 250 Sunday afternoon at South Alabama Speedway.  The 17-year-old rising star from Mooresville, NC swapped paint with veteran Jeff Choquette on the final lap and pulled away off the final turn to win the season opener for the Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco.

 

2. Watt Survives Off-Track Excursion to Win at Georgetown

The opening round of the 2018 Short Track Super Series Modified season might have taken place in Delaware, but it was merely the battleground as two titans from New Jersey and New York went at it on a chilly and damp Georgetown Speedway Saturday night. In the end, the citizens of the Garden State toasted Ryan Watt’s hard-earned victory over Matt Sheppard in the 49-lap Melvin L. Joseph Memorial.

 

3. McKennedy-Baldwin Duo Score Their First NWMT Victory

Jon McKennedy and the familiar Tommy Baldwin Racing No. 7ny found their way to the lead with 12 circuits remaining and never looked back on his way to victory lane at Myrtle Beach Speedway (SC).  It was the Chelmsford, Massachusetts driver’s first win on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, but the second in as many months with what is turning out to be a powerful tandem.

 

4. Pollard Wins Fourth Rattler, But 'Ain't Kissing' the Snake

Crafty veterans, young phenoms, hard racing, and a stellar field; the 2018 rendition of the Baby Rattler 125 had everything racing fans crave.  In the end, it was Bubba Pollard back in victory lane for the fourth time in his career.

 

5. Craig Makes Caraway Speedway His Personal Playground

Caraway Speedway was once again Matt Craig’s playground on Sunday, as he won the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Model Tour event at the Sophia, North Carolina facility for the third consecutive year.

 

6. Davenport Finds Pot of Gold at Lancaster

Jonathan Davenport brought the luck of the Irish to Lancaster Motor Speedway (SC) on Saturday where he went on to capture a win with the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series. 

 

7. Von Dohren Leads Off Northeast Season With Georgetown Win

Craig Von Dohren used a restart with 18 laps remaining to cruise to a season-opening victory on Friday night’s portion of the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial weekend at Georgetown Speedway.

 

8. McKennedy Completes Carolina Sweep at Caraway

One day removed from winning the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season opener at Myrtle Beach Speedway (SC), Jon McKennedy and the Tommy Baldwin team made the trip to Sophia, North Carolina for the Southern Modified Racing Series 2018 kickoff. The result was the same, as McKennedy dominated the 99-lap feature for the win.

 

9. Schott Wears King of America VIII Crown at Humboldt

Lucas Schott delivered the most dominating performance to date at the King of America VIII Modified Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment on Saturday night, leading all 75 laps of the main event against a star-studded field at the Humboldt Speedway.

 

10. Clanton is Mr. Domination in Southern National Series Opener

Shane Clanton of Zebulon captured his third career Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series presented by Sunoco Race Fuels and Tennessee RV victory on Friday night, March 16 at Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, N.C.
