The Short Track Racing world world was busy this past weekend. This weekend saw some big races and some big names having some misfortune.

1. Jones Has JEGS Tour Win Taken Away at Home Track

When the fans left Owosso Speedway (MI) after Saturday night’s Big O Classic 100 for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour, they left with the impression that local favorite and future NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Erik Jones scored the win.  However, Champion Racing Association (CRA) officials determined that Jones’ No. 20 Pro Late Model did not pass post-race technical inspection.

 

2. Driver Dies From Injuries Sustained in Crash at Eldora Speedway

ROSSBURG, Ohio – Dirt Late Model racer Shane Unger died Saturday night at Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater, Ohio, where he was transported following a multi-car crash at Eldora Speedway.

 

3. Wilson Tames the Bear, Clinches 2016 Southern Super Series Title

Wilson led 183 of the event’s 200 laps en route to not only a win in the prestigious Alabama 200, but also the 2016 Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco Championship. With the win, Wilson mathematically locked up the 2016 title and a guaranteed spot in December’s 49th Annual Snowball Derby.

4. Pierce On Top of the World After $49,000 Eldora Win

Bobby Pierce battled more than 100 dirt late models all weekend long to capture his first-ever World 100 title Saturday night at Eldora Speedway. The 46th running of the event featured drivers from 22 states, two Canadian provinces and two Australian cities. The Oakwood, Ill. native was the last man standing in the five-caution feature.

 

5. Solomito Stops Coby’s Clinic in NWMT Return to Seekonk

It looked as though Doug Coby was going to put on another clinic in the return of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour to Seekonk Speedway (MA) on Saturday night. The three-time Tour champion dominated on the long runs, but a number of cautions and a hard-charging Timmy Solomito changed the dynamic of the AnytimeRealty.com 150.

6. Gragson Sweeps Utah Doubleheader With Last Lap Move

Noah Gragson made the big move on Todd Gilliland on the last lap of the UMC 110 presented by Ken Garff Volvo to sweep the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West doubleheader weekend at Utah Motorsports Campus. It was Gragson’s second win in as many days, as the Las Vegas driver won Saturday’s race on the 3.048-mile oval. The races marked the first time the series ran a doubleheader on back-to-back days at the same venue, and Gragson made the most of the historic weekend.

Things have come a long way for Bobby Measmer Jr. in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour ranks. Three seasons ago, the driver from Concord, North Carolina was struggling to even crack the top 10. Fast forward to Sunday night and the Late Model-turned-Modified racer was celebrating his first career NWSMT victory at East Carolina Motor Speedway (NC).

8. Car Number Nine Wins Ninth Super DIRTcar Race of Season

Matt Sheppard is no stranger to victory lane as he captured his third Super DIRTcar Series win in a row and his ninth overall Friday night at Le RPM Speedway.

9. Speed Central: One Brackett Wins Race, Other Wins Oxford Title

It was a good weekend to be a member of the Brackett family at Oxford Plains Speedway. Two trophies went back to the household, one for a race win and one for a championship.

10. Trackside Now: Hirschman Goes Flag-to-Flag at Evergreen

It was a 50-lap tuneup for King of the Green weekend at Pennsylvania’s Evergreen Speedway, and Matt Hirschman showed that “Big Money Matt” will be the man to beat when the Big Money is on the line.
