The Snowball Derby is always the biggest race in Super Late Model racing, with plenty of excitement and drama. Even after being postponed one day by rain, this year’s Derby delivered on that expectation.
The highly-anticipated Speed51 Super Select winner-takes-all All-Star Race delivered on the hype, producing incredible racing around Lucas Oil Raceway on the weekend of NASCAR’s visit to Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The battle to get into the Snowball Derby is always intense, and this year that battle led to tempers flaring after Harrison Burton, Rich Bickle and Carson Hocevar were all removed from transfer positions by an accident just shy of the finish.
The Super Late Model portion of the Short Track Showdown at “The Magic Mile” featured a thrilling finish, as Eddie MacDonald and Mike Hopkins battled over the closing laps to a photo finish.
After 200 laps, the top spot for one of the biggest races in Super Late Model racing came down to a duel between two of Wisconsin’s finest – Ty Majeski and former NASCAR Cup Series Champion Matt Kenseth.
The quarter-mile Star Speedway in New Hampshire produced some physical, close-quarters racing in the Star Classic this year, coming down to a battle between Joey Doiron and Ray Christian, III to the checkered flag.
It’s a newer tradition in the racing scene, but the Bacon Bowl in Canada is already turning into a memorable, action-packed event on the calendar, and that was true again in 2019.
After an early issue, Stephen Nasse charged through the field at “The Last Great Colosseum” to score a gladiator’s sword.
Another crown jewel in the Super Late Model world, the All American 400 ended with local Mason Mingus battling with some of the top drivers in Super Late Model racing in a chaotic finish.
