New Smyrna Speedway made a surprise announcement during the second night of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, welcoming fans far and wide to join them Sunday, February 9 for a Fan Appreciation Night.
As part of the Fan Appreciation Night, general admission tickets will be available for $15. The night will include feature races for the Super Late Models, Pro Late Models and Florida Modifieds as the World Series continues.
Rusty Marcus, Track Manager of New Smyrna Speedway, shared that this is just one step of a new vision shared by himself and Andrew Hart, co-owner of the venue.
“We’re trying to do some new stuff at New Smyrna Speedway,” Marcus told Speed51. “Andrew Hart, the owners’ son, will be the heir to all of this at some point, and he wants to try some different things.”
The track plans to have other similar evenings throughout the season, offering fans and families a great entertainment value.
“We’re going to do this throughout the year, have family fun nights. Nowhere in Volusia County, nowhere in the state of Florida I believe, can you see a race like this for Speedweeks for $15. He said, ‘Let’s do it,’ so we’re going to do it.”
Ultimately, the goal is to bring even more fun to the Florida half-mile, with new and fresh initiatives for the venerable facility that has hosted the prestigious World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing for more than 50 years.
“We’re trying to create a fun atmosphere at New Smyrna Speedway. He’s going to be taking this over and he’s a lot younger than most of us, so he’s got a whole different mindset on how to do things. We’re excited about that because everything can always use a breath of fresh air. I think we’re going to see that a lot more in the near future.”
