Monroe, WA – Preston Peltier will make his return to the Summer Showdown this weekend at Evergreen Speedway, looking for his fourth consecutive Super Late Model victory in the $25,000-to-win event. But Peltier will not stop there, as he will also enter the Pro Late Model portion of the event worth $15,000-to-win. With bonuses, Peltier could take home $80,000 for the weekend.
Peltier is one of the most well-known and successful Super Late Model racers in the country. His five Easter Bunny 150 wins at Hickory Motor Speedway (NC), a “World Crown 300” win at Gresham Motorsports Park (GA), and a $30,000-to-win “All-Star Showdown 200” victory in the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series at Irwindale Speedway are evidence of this. In addition, he possesses a “Colorado Challenge Cup” victory at Colorado National Speedway (CO), a Chilly Willy 150 win at Tucson Speedway (AZ), to go along with his 2019 Fall Open Comp Super Late Model win at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (NV).
On the touring side, he was the 2010 PASS South and PASS National Super Late Model Series Champion, never finishing outside the top-four in his six full-time efforts in the southern division. He also led the 2021 SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series Championship Standings through the first three events, before missing the Stockton 99 Speedway race.
Peltier would love to add another marque win to his resume this weekend, as the Summer Showdown has seen some of the biggest names in Super Late Model racing adorn Victory Lane. The inaugural 2012 season saw Canadian driver Pete Harding claim the prize. He was followed by Jay Sauls, Cameron Hayley, Bubba Pollard, Tayler Riddle, and then three-time and defending champion Preston Peltier. With the 2020 edition a victim of Covid-19, Peltier will enter as the defending champion.
After a year and a half away, Peltier will be back with Ed Vecchiarelli and their Colorado based Generator Source Team, for this year’s Summer Showdown. The combination has been successful in the past winning all three of his Summer Showdowns with that group. His success in the event is not only due to the team, but also Peltier’s affinity for the track.
“The track has a lot of character, and that’s what I really like about the place”, Peltier stated. “The track is wore out, bumpy, and has long flat corners. It just kinda suits me. The cool weather doesn’t hurt either. At these big races you have to be good in every department, including luck!”
Peltier will join and over 30 Super Late Models already entered, which also includes previous winners Jay Sauls and Tayler Riddle. The Pro Late Model field has exceeded 20 teams. Both divisions will shoot it out on July 23rd – 24th on the big 5/8-mile oval. The Pro Late Models will be competing for $15,000 and the Super Late Models $25,000. Additional bonuses could take the winnings to $80,000 between the two events. The Mini Stocks and Legends will be on the card Friday night, while Street Stocks, Legends and the Northwest Mini Stock Tour will complement the action on Saturday. Fans can go to the Evergreen Speedway website at https://evergreenspeedway.com/ to purchase tickets for the prestigious event.
