Three Big Days Planned for Star Classic Weekend

This weekend will be a big one at Star Speedway, with three exciting days of racing on tap during the 2020 Star Classic.  Star Speedway’s Bobby Webber joined Speed51’s “The Bullring” Monday, discussing his excitement for the action-packed weekend.

This marks the first time the Classic weekend has been a three-day affair, which has Webber itching to kick off the weekend and bring a wide variety of race teams to the quarter-mile facility.

“It’s definitely a weekend you don’t want to miss,” said Webber.  “We’ve got three full days of racing coming up, we’ve never done that before.”

Friday’s racing is headlined by the Granite State Pro Stock Series, competing for 100 laps in their eighth race of the 2020 season.

“It kicks off Friday with the Granite State Pro Stock Series with the Vynorius Companies 100.  Also racing that night will be Classic Lites, Six Shooters and Pure Stocks.  Some grassroots racing joined by a touring group.”

The big day for Supermodifieds will be Saturday, featuring both Big Block and Small Block Supermodifieds in marquee events.

“The big day is Saturday.  We have the ISMA Big Blocks here for the Bob Webber, Sr. 125, another big race that has come a long way.  This is going to be the 21st and final running of the 350 Supermodified classic known as the Randy Witkum Memorial.  The race was named for Randy, who was one of the innovators of the class, along with my dad and Big Ed Witkum.

Randy tragically lost his life 21 years ago in a Supermodified, and we figured this was a fitting end for the naming of the race.  He drove No. 21, and this will be the 21st running of the race.”

Saturday’s action will also feature the NEMA Midgets and NEMA Lites alongside the Supermodifieds.

“We also have the NEMA Lites with their O’Brien Memorial.  It should be a full winged Saturday.  Between Big Blocks and Small Blocks, there should be 60 Supermodifieds in the pit area, along with the Midgets.

The fun-filled weekend concludes on Sunday, with the Modified Racing Series topping the card with a 100-lap feature.

“It all ends on Sunday, with Classic Sunday presented by Hedges Excavation with the MRS 100, Street Stocks for their Fast 40 Final and the Late Models will be going 50 laps on Sunday.  There’s a lot of racing all weekend, and something for everybody.”

Whether you are a fan of the fendered Pro Stocks, the ground pounding Modifieds, or the lightning fast Supermodified, there will be something for you at the Star Classic weekend.
