LAKE VIEW, SC – Raeford, NC’s Shaun Harrell got the advantage over polesitter Russell Erwin at the start and led all 35 laps to take his third I-95 Challenge Series Late Model win of the season Saturday night at Lake View Motor Speedway.
“We started racing Street Stocks here about 20 years ago so it’s pretty special to come back and beat a field of cars like this tonight,” said Harrell afterwards.
In qualifying, Erwin claimed the pole position over the stout 26-car field with a lap of 17.175 seconds. At the drop of the green flag, Harrell got the advantage over Erwin entering turn one to take the lead. Erwin hounded Harrell for the lead but tangled with the lapped machine of Jeffery Johnson entering turn three and spun on lap 16.
Lake View points leader Willie Milliken would then take the fight to Harrell, until Friday night’s Late Model winner, Dustin Mitchell moved past to take the runner-up spot. Milliken’s night would end six laps short of the finish when he went over the backstretch banking to bring out the final caution of the night. Harrell would take the win in the 35-lapper over Mitchell, Shaun Sewell, Dean Bowen, and Dalton Wilson. Rounding out the top 10 were Kerry Gibbons, Daniel Tucker, Colby Jenerette, Johnny Pridgen, and Erwin.
The Open Wheel Modifieds made their return to Lake View Saturday night and second-generation driver, Daniel Parker, dominated to take his first win of the season. Rounding out the top five were David Taylor, Timmy Blackwell, Jordan Taylor, and Steve Strickland.
In the Super Street division, Fayetteville, NC’s Greg Cain got the lead on the initial start from polesitter, Michael Freeman, and led every lap for his third Super Street division win of the season. Chris Powers finished second over Luke Owens, Robbie Disher, and Benji Thompson.
Following his win Friday night, Tony Williams, III backed it up with another victory to sweep the weekend in a wild Pure Stock feature. Following him to the checkers were Buck Causey, Brad Harrelson, Michael Butler, and Chandler Fowler.
“Joker Style” Kyle Jenks started from the pole and led every lap for his third UCAR division win of the season. The rest of the top five all head their best finishes of the season led by Joey Wilkes, Andrew Rowell, James Smith, and Edward McNamara, who came back from a roll over in the same car in Friday night’s action.
Fair Bluff, NC’s Kevin Weatherford took his track leading seventh win of the year in 4 Cylinders over his brother, Chris, Jason Floyd, Corey Singleton, and Jason Adams.
Lake View Motor Speedway will next be in action on Labor Day weekend, Saturday night, September 1st, featuring “Fan Appreciation” and racing for the Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, 4 Cylinders, UCARs, Bell & Bell Vintage Modifieds, and the Sharp Mini Late Models.
