With the start of the 2015 season looming ever closer on the calendar teams are busy in the shops putting the finishing touches to their cars. When the first green flag waves at Sunset Speedway a proud family tradition will start a new chapter on the ovals in Ontario and with OSCAAR.

12 year old Alex Cuzzilla will be behind the wheel of the #50 OSCAAR Midget for his first season with the provincial touring series.  Don’t let his age fool you as Alex has 4 years of go kart racing experience behind him heading into his rookie season.

Alex had great success in karts, in 2012 he was crowned The Champion at Mosport Speedway in the Arrive and Drive division. Alex also had an impressive record at The Kawartha Durham Kart Club, with 3 wins in 6 starts at the events held at Kawartha Speedway. The 2013-2014 saw the team competing at the front week in and week out often battling his good friend Marlie Owen (daughter of John Owen) for the wins. Along the way Alex has learned the hardest lesson in racing as he stateswe lost every way we could have as well

When the 2014 season came to a close, Alex and his dad Tom decided it was time to make a change. Tom is no stranger to OSCAAR as he has many years of experience driving a super late model. Alex said he could not wait to get on the ovals that his family has raced on “it’s in my blood”. So my dad decided that the next best step would be the OSCAAR Midget series. We both feel that this step is the best jump between Karts and full size race cars.

We have been busy in the shop building our new chassis and cannot wait to hit the track for practice. Alex has memories of watching his dad race in OSCAAR in the super late model and cannot wait to carry on the Cuzzilla tradition.

Alex is very proud of his families long history in racing that started with his Grandfather Tom and his brother Colin back in modifieds in the early 1950’s. In fact to honour his Grandfather Toms’ 50th Anniversary of his 1965 Modified Championship at Wasaga Beach Speedway, Alex will be painting his 2015 Midget the same paint scheme.

Although like many young guys in the winter Alex can be found playing hockey, his real passion is for racing and is planning on a long career here in Ontario.  When asked where he would like to see himself in 5 years Alex is very quick to answer “hopefully in an OSCAAR Modified”

OSCAAR is very excited to have Alex and the entire Cuzzilla family as part of the series in 2015, and like to wish them the best of luck in 2015!
