With two weeks remaining in the 2016 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series season, the top three contenders in the national title hunt are separated by just three points.

For the second straight week, Matt Bowling leads Keith Rocco by one point in the most recently updated NWAAS Division I point standings.  Meanwhile, Midwest Late Model racer Ty Majeski has closed the gap and now trails Bowling by only three points.

TS Mobile AppDespite a rainout at South Boston Speedway (VA) Saturday night, Bowling shifted his sights north to Dominion Raceway (VA) where he earned his first win and a fourth-place finish in twin features for the Late Model Stock Cars.  Bowling leads the standings with 664 points and 12 overall NASCAR-sanctioned win.

Rocco also had a first this past weekend, his first win of 2016 in the SK Modifieds at Stafford Motor Speedway (CT) on Friday.  The Northeast Modified pilot followed that up with a seventh-place finish at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl (CT) Saturday night.  ‘Kid Roc’ has now accumulated 663 points and 13 wins overall.

Majeski also had a strong Friday with a win and fifth-place finish in twin Late Model features at Madison International Speedway (WI).  On Saturday, the Seymour, Wisconsin driver made the decision to skip an ARCA Midwest Tour event in order to race twin features at Elko Speedway.  He earned finishes of second and fifth to trim the gap on both Bowling and Rocco while improving his best 18 finishes of the season. With all four races factored in, Majeski’s point total bumped up to 661 with his 13 overall wins.

Trevor Huddleston had a very adventurous weekend, heading to Tuscon Speedway (AZ) on Saturday as he earned a win to bring his total to 11 on the season. Lee Pulliam was idle this past weekend as he did not choose an alternative to the rained out event at South Boston.

Keith Rocco was originally scheduled to have three opportunities to race this weekend, but lost one of those opportunities Wednesday night when Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (CT) canceled their racing due to rain. He will now race at Stafford on Friday, and then again Saturday at Waterford.

Matt Bowling also has three races planned with a 150 lap race at Dominion Raceway on Thursday and twin features at Southern National on Saturday.

The biggest question mark is still Ty Majeski as his plans for the weekend are currently unclear due to a prior engagement.
