Super Late Model teams had one final practice session on Saturday to prepare for the 52nd Annual Snowball Derby presented by BJ’s Wholesale Club. California driver Jeremy Doss ended the hour-long session with his No. 75 “Underbird” throwback car on top of the charts with a 16.782, setting the tone for he and his team come tomorrow afternoon.
With qualifying now out of the way, drivers who are already locked in to the main event focused on race runs to prepare for Sunday’s marathon. It was the same for Doss, who believes they have a good baseline to start the race with.
“I think it’s pretty good, we made a couple adjustments there and made about four runs. That last time out we made a little bit of a longer run and it seems to me like a top-five car,” Doss told Speed51. “We’re pretty happy with it, we’re going to leave it as is for tomorrow. We’re not in a box for tomorrow, we have some adjustments we can make so I think it’s pretty good.”
NASCAR Cup Series driver Corey LaJoie put the Fathead Racing No. 7 second on the board in the final session. Rolling off from the third starting spot in Sunday’s race, the Go Fas Racing driver is as excited as he’s ever been in his four previous starts in the Snowball Derby. He had a simple answer when asked how the car was.
“Dude. Real good. Really good.
“I’ve thought I’ve been good here before and not race good, but this is a little different,” LaJoie added. “It’s got really good drive, really good turn. We made a couple good long runs there and it didn’t fall off and had a lot of drive on the back end. It’s the best car I’ve had here by far. I think we’re flying under the radar a little bit but I think we’ll be really good come tomorrow.”
Harrison Burton finished the session third fastest, but he will have to go through the last chance race Saturday afternoon to qualify for Sunday’s race. Ty Majeski and Lucas Jones rounded the top five.
