After a second-place finish in the Carolina Clash race Friday night at Carolina Speedway, “Fergy Time” struck Saturday night at Modoc Raceway (SC) as Chris Ferguson found his way to victory lane from his 10th-place starting position in the Ultimate Super Late Model Series feature, becoming $5,022 richer in the process.
“We just got up there and did what we had to do to win you know? At certain parts of the race we moved down and I really wanted to keep my tire kind of cool, and only use it when I needed it there at that last restart,” Ferguson told Speed51 in victory lane. “I saw that it was eleven to go or something like that. I knew if I stayed on Casey’s (Roberts) outside on the frontstretch maybe I’d be able to pass him and I did. He slid me there and I crossed him back.
“Just the whole race picking and choosing which lane to go but just like last night I found a groove right around the top and we could really just eat them up off both corners and we had a lot of fun man,” Ferguson continued. “We had to work hard two nights in a row and we actually got it done tonight so that’s fun.”
Johnny Pursley brought home the iconic red No. 9 in second after leading steadily throughout the middle of the race.
“We lead some laps. We’ve been struggling here lately, had the monkey on our back,” Pursley said. “So hopefully to lead some laps and finish second, that’s a boost for us. We can go on from this. This crowd has been racing a lot this year and this is really only our second race under our belt, so we’ll take it and go on from here.”
Casey Roberts brought his No. 101 home third after showing flashes of speed late in the running.
“We just had a dominant car and drove a heck of a race,” Roberts said. “Johnny had done good as well. Just came up short, you know. We just got to keep digging away and see if we can get us another win here soon.”
The next race on the 2019 Ultimate Super Late Model Series schedule is the big $20,000-to-win USA 100 at Virginia Motor Speedway on June 15.
