The Hometown Kid Rolls into Fayetteville

Daulton Wilson sits second in ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series points behind leader Zack Mitchell with just three races to go in the season. While he’s currently 98 points off the tail of Mitchell, he’s looking forward to gaining some momentum going into his home town track of Fayetteville Motor Speedway (NC).

“Yeah, this is home for us, you know,” Wilson told Speed51. “We lost the race earlier in the year, or the other one that Fayetteville had and, you know, so we’re excited to get to go back. We haven’t really run that good at Fayetteville all year, but we went and tested a couple of weeks back and it felt pretty good. So we’re really looking forward to it.”

Now coming to the end of his first season in Super Late Model racing throughout the Southeast, Wilson has truly found a home in the ULTIMATE tour. While the series championship might be slipping out of reach, he’s all but locked up the Rookie points standings.

“The whole crowd that follows that tour, everybody respects each other,” Wilson continued. “You can race good with whoever really. Everybody respects each other’s equipment. You can get in there and race with all of them and not really have to worry about too much.”

“It’s been a rough week. You know, we’ve been busy trying to get my stuff together and my brother is actually going to race this weekend too. So we’ve been trying to get a second car ready on top of being sick.

Though he’s been focused on his own program, the stress he’s been feeling back at the shop would all pay off with a victory this weekend at his hometown track

“I’d definitely be relieved after tomorrow night if we can get a win in the ULTIMATE deal, win the rookie points, and do it in front of the home crowd. You know, we got a lot of good people, and a lot of sponsors coming to see us race, so it’d be nice to be really good in front of them guys.”
