Derek Scott Jr. and his family made the trek from San Antonio, Texas to Hickory, North Carolina to compete in this Saturday’s Pro All-Star Series (PASS) Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory Motor Speedway (NC). If he qualifies for the race, it will be his first career start in a Super Late Model event.

The 15-year-old is on a mission this year and it is a simple one, to gain as much experience as he can by competing at a variety of tracks in the southeast part of the United States. When they saw the Easter Bunny 150 date, they thought this would fit right into their 2015 goals.

“I’ve heard quite a lot about this track. We decided to compete in this race because I need the experience at these tracks,” Scott told powered by JEGS. “I’m running my Pro Late Model in the Easter Bunny 150, and we are going to try to qualify in and see if we can get a victory.”

Scott got his season off to a great start by winning the Pro Late Model feature on opening night of the 49th Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida.

In seven nights of racing at New Smyrna, he had one win with five top-five’s and six top-10 finishes.

He recently recorded a top-10 finish at the Rattler 125 Pro Late Model event at South Alabama Speedway in Opp, Alabama.

The young pilot is always eager to get seat time. He realizes that the more time he gets, along with competing at a variety of tracks, will only help improve his driving skills. He is already seeing that transformation in a variety of areas.

“Oh my gosh, there is so much I could say,” Scott said when asked about what he has learned behind the wheel. “I would say, trusting the car. I have learned that I can push the car more than I ever thought. That is due to building up my confidence by racing more and more.”

Being a native of Texas, many of his family and friends are unable to travel with the Scott family to each and every race. This Saturday’s Easter Bunny 150 will be shown live on 51 TV pay-per-view, which Scott is happy to have available for his fans.

“It was great at Speedweeks because my family and friends who weren’t at New Smyrna were able to see me win,” Scott exclaimed. “It’s going to be great for to be at Hickory this Saturday. It will be another opportunity for my family and friends to keep up with me.”
