Terry Fisher, Jr. had a down and up Labor Day at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Indiana. The down part was an early exit in the ARCA/CRA Super Series 100-lap event. The upside was he came back out in his Top Speed Modified and won that division’s 50-lap event.
Fisher took over the top spot after early leader Jeff Lane was trying to pass traffic and made contact with a lapped car causing him to hit the wall at the exit of turn four.
From there, Fisher would hold off Tim Burkett and current Top Speed Modified Tour point leader Chad Poole for the win.
“It really wasn’t how we wanted to get the lead, but we will take the win,” Fisher said after the race. “We had a rough start by being involved in an early wreck in the Super Late Model race. It’s nice to end our day with a win here at Winchester.”
Herb Johnson, Jr. took the lead at the green flag but Lane was able to use the outside line to get by Johnson on lap five.
A lap later, Johnson made hard contact with the inside wall near the start/finish line. The impact was so hard that debris flew into the pits. Johnson was able to walk away, but was not happy.
When the green flag flew, Fisher got past Burkett on lap 10 to take over the second spot, then to the lead after Lane fell out after hitting the wall.
Fisher and Burkett would finish first and second while Poole held off a late rally from Brian Nester for the third spot. Jonathan Martin rounded out the top five.
This is Fisher’s third win in a Modified this season and gives him great momentum heading into the “Run for the Gun 50” Top Speed Modified event at Winchester Speedway on Saturday, October 11th.
The Top Speed Modifieds will be back in action this Saturday night at Auto City Speedway in Clio, Michigan.
