Rising to the challenge is what separates a top-notch driver from the rest of the pack. Whether it’s dominating a race, going on a winning streak or sealing a win with a late-race pass, drivers slowly rise to the top of the field and make a name for themselves.
That’s why the FK Rod Ends, who has nearly 10,000 combinations of rod ends and spherical bearings available and carefully crafts their products, is proud to honor a monthly “Team FK Driver of the Month” from the short track ranks of America on Speed51.com. Each month, an esteemed panel of short track industry insiders will vote on which driver had the most success on the track. The driver with the most votes will then be the “Team FK Driver of the Month” and will receive a $25 product certificate to use at FK Rod Ends. At the end of the 2018 season, the driver that received the most votes throughout the season will then be the “Team FK Driver of the Year” and will be awarded a (to be determined) prize from FK Rod Ends. The winner of the “Team FK Driver of the Month” for the month of May is……
USAC Silver Crown / Non-Wing Sprint Cars
What have you done for me lately?
If you ask USAC Silver Crown driver Kody Swanson that question, the answer will be: a lot.
Swanson is fresh off a three-win performance during one of the biggest motorsports weekends of the year. While competing in the state of Indiana during Indy 500 Weekend, the Kingsburg, California driver scored a trio of wins while competing on both dirt and asphalt.
His impressive week began last Thursday with his fourth straight Hoosier Hundred victory on the dirt at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, tying Al Unser’s record for the most consecutive victories in the prestigious race.
One night later, Swanson switched over to asphalt and won the Dave Steele Carb Night Classic at Lucas Oil Raceway. The win was his third straight USAC Silver Crown victory, making him the first driver in 13 years to win three straight races. And to make the win even more special, the last driver to win three races in a row was the namesake of the race, the late Dave Steele.
Swanson’s week in Indiana ended with his second career victory in the biggest Pavement Sprint race of the year, the Little 500 at Anderson Speedway. Swanson survived all 500 laps and bounced back from a spin to win the race for the second time in three years.
Adding to his performance in Indiana, Swanson also scored a USAC Silver Crown win at Toledo Speedway (OH) earlier in the month, bringing his total to four wins during the month of May.
For his impressive performance during the month, Kody Swanson has been named the FK Rod Ends Driver of the Month for the month of May.
Others receiving votes: Donny Schatz, Jimmy Owens, Lee Pulliam, Raphael Lessard, Scott Bloomquist, Steve Vore and Stewart Friesen
