Rising to the challenge is what separates a top-notch driver from the rest of the pack. Whether it’s dominating a race, going on a winning streak or sealing a win with a late-race pass, drivers slowly rise to the top of the field and make a name for themselves.
That’s why the FK Rod Ends, who has nearly 10,000 combinations of rod ends and spherical bearings available and carefully crafts their products, is proud to honor a monthly “Team FK Driver of the Month” from the short track ranks of America on Speed51.com. Each month, an esteemed panel of short track industry insiders will vote on which driver had the most success on the track. The driver with the most votes will then be the “Team FK Driver of the Month” and will receive a $25 product certificate to use at FK Rod Ends. At the end of the 2018 season, the driver that received the most votes throughout the season will then be the “Team FK Driver of the Year” and will be awarded a (to be determined) prize from FK Rod Ends. The winner of the “Team FK Driver of the Month” for the month of August is……
“What can you say about Bubba Pollard?” fellow racer Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. asked following the 45th Annual Oxford 250.
You can say that he’s a living short track legend.
Over the course of two weeks, Pollard’s status transitioned from being one of the nation’s top short track stars to being a short track legend.
His remarkable two-week stretch began when he made the trip north to Oxford Plains Speedway (ME) for his Oxford 250 debut. Nobody thought he would win the Oxford 250 in his first attempt. The track, the local stars and the overall difficulty of the race would be too much for Pollard to conquer in his first try, or so they said.
Despite struggling throughout practice Friday and Saturday, drawing last in his heat race, qualifying through a consolation race and starting 29th in the main event, Pollard charged through the field and won the Oxford 250. For his win, he captured over $28,000.
But he wasn’t done yet.
Following his first visit to Maine, Pollard made a trip north of the border to Ontario’s Jukasa Motor Speedway for the inaugural Canadian Short Track Nationals.
Once again, Pollard wasn’t pleased with his car during the practice sessions. But once again, Pollard shined when it mattered most. He took the lead on Lap 144 of the 200-lap race and went on to score the $50,000 (CAD) victory worth over $38,000 in U.S. dollars.
Combine those two races together and you have one of the richest two-week performances in recent history for asphalt Late Model racing.
Oh, we suppose we should also mention that Pollard scored another big win earlier in the month when he locked himself into the Oxford 250 by winning a thrilling PASS South race at South Boston Speedway in Virginia.
For his impressive performances during the last month, Bubba Pollard has been named the FK Rod Ends Driver of the Month for the month of August.
