Rising to the challenge is what separates a top-notch driver from the rest of the pack. Whether it’s dominating a race, going on a winning streak or sealing a win with a late-race pass, drivers slowly rise to the top of the field and make a name for themselves.
That’s why the FK Rod Ends, who has nearly 10,000 combinations of rod ends and spherical bearings available and carefully crafts their products, is proud to honor a monthly “Team FK Driver of the Month” from the short track ranks of America on Speed51.com. Each month, an esteemed panel of short track industry insiders will vote on which driver had the most success on the track. The driver with the most votes will then be the “Team FK Driver of the Month” and will receive a $25 product certificate to use at FK Rod Ends. At the end of the 2019 season, the driver that received the most votes throughout the season will then be the “Team FK Driver of the Year” and will be awarded a (to be determined) prize from FK Rod Ends. The winner of the “Team FK Driver of the Month” for the month of April is…
How do you argue with perfection? Matt Sheppard was five-for-five in April, winning every time he took the track.
The five-time Super DIRTcar Champion took five wins at five different tracks in three states during the month, flexing his muscle in Dirt Modified competition throughout the Northeast.
The month started with a pair of wins, as Sheppard won the Bruce Rogers Memorial at Grandview Speedway (PA) on Saturday, April 6 before taking the Hard Clay Open at Orange County Fair Speedway (NY) the next day. That win proved memorable as it was an elusive first career win at the famed venue for the Dirt Modified dominator.
Many drivers would be happy to call that a successful season, but it was just the start of Sheppard’s monster April run. The following weekend, the Super DIRTcar season kicked off at Can-Am Motorsports Park (NY), where Sheppard won the “Thunder in the Thousand Islands 100” to continue his hot streak.
Sheppard closed out April with another strong weekend, picking up a pair of wins to wrap up the month. On Saturday, April 27, winning the Fonda Speedway (NY) season opener with a late-race pass of Stewart Friesen. The following Tuesday, Sheppard won the Short Track Super Series’ Diamond State 50 at Delaware International Speedway (DE).
All told, it was five wins in five races, taking place in three states. The final tally in winnings totaled up to roughly $40,000, and April’s Team FK Driver of the Month award.
